Pokemon: Lord of Fear

Chapter 41: Chapter 41: The Grudge

Edward looked at the Gengar tangled around him. He now seriously suspected that Gengar had some sort of dog-like nose.

The candy was in his chest pocket, and he hadn't remembered it at all, but somehow, Gengar smelled it out. Did this thing even have a smell?

"Ah, maybe it's the candy I made for Q?" Edward helplessly looked at Gengar and said. Upon hearing this, Gengar immediately released him, then fixed his large eyes on Edward, and the intent was very clear.

Edward took out a ghostly sugar cube from his chest. As soon as he did, Gengar fixed his gaze on it, his eyes wide, his mouth starting to drool as a large puddle of saliva dripped onto the plants below.

The plants that were touched by the saliva immediately turned black, and the black toxins quickly spread down the branches toward the roots.

"Do you want some?" Edward asked, holding the sugar cube and looking at Gengar. Gengar immediately nodded, his eyes never blinking, and Edward could see purple-black air currents rising from Gengar's body, making him appear as if he were boiling.

Edward tossed the sugar cube to Gengar, who didn't hesitate for a moment and opened his mouth wide, swallowing the small sugar cube. Immediately, his body began to shake, and his eyes and mouth roamed across his body, while countless red eyes popped up all over him. The sight was so dense it almost triggered Edward's claustrophobia.

"Ah!" Q climbed onto Edward's head, curiously watching the shaking Gengar, whose body was quivering violently. Edward twitched his lips. How did this little guy join in on the fun?

"So delicious, what kind of candy is this?" Gengar let out a long sigh of satisfaction, then excitedly looked at Edward and asked.

It was clear that Gengar was thrilled, because as he spoke, his entire body was filled with mouths all speaking simultaneously, making the scene somewhat unsettling.

"Hmm, it's just the candy I made for Q," Edward said, not really knowing how to explain, so he just gave a vague answer. However, Gengar didn't press any further; he was only focused on whether he could eat this candy every day.

"No way. The ingredients for this candy are rare, and I can only make a few at a time," Edward waved his hand after hearing Gengar's question. There was no way he could let Gengar eat it all the time. After all, this candy could boost a Pokémon's awakening value, so it had to be reserved for Q.

He could afford to give Gengar one or two pieces because their relationship was good, and it could help win Gengar over, but giving it to him every day was out of the question.

"Ah." Gengar swallowed, staring at Edward. He was still savoring the delicious taste of the candy. For some reason, after eating it, he felt like his strength had increased just a little bit.

As a Ghost-type overlord, Gengar could tell how beneficial this candy was to him. The taste of the candy was far more addictive than the fear in the Sunyshore Gym; it was more intoxicating than anything else he'd ever had.

After just one piece, Gengar felt an itch in his heart, craving another one.

It was like eating Pokémon Mint.

Gengar impatiently paced back and forth, the shadows around him trembling as if they were being tormented by his own shadows.

"How about this, you become my Pokémon?" Edward smiled and asked.

Gengar rolled his eyes at him.

"Only you would say something like that. If it were anyone else, I'd have sent them flying to Rustboro City by now." Gengar said disdainfully. After all, he was a powerful Pokémon, the overlord of the Petalburg Woods, and there was no way he'd become someone else's Pokémon.

But when he looked at Edward, he thought of the candy in Edward's chest pocket. The smell of that candy was the most delicious food in the world to him. After eating it, Gengar felt like everything else he'd eaten before was disgusting.

No, it was even worse than disgusting.

Thinking about the smelly mud he'd eaten as a child made Gengar feel nauseous, but after having the candy, all other food seemed like that same disgusting mud. What should he do?

But becoming Edward's Pokémon was still unappealing.

After much internal conflict, Gengar finally decided to strike a deal with Edward.

In the future, whenever Edward needed help, he could call on Gengar, and Gengar would lend a hand. In return, the payment would be this candy, with the amount depending on the difficulty of the task.

Edward thought this arrangement was fine. After all, Gengar was incredibly powerful, being the overlord of Ghost-types. His strength spoke for itself.

"By the way, Mr. Gengar, do you know any Pokémon that looks really terrifying and just looking at it is enough to scare other Pokémon?" After reaching the agreement, Edward thought of his casting problem for the short film.

For the human version, he didn't need to worry. Thanks to the box office of Death Silence's opening day, he didn't have to stress about finding actors. The only problem now was that there might be too many people auditioning.

But for the Pokémon version, Edward was still unsure about the casting. He was looking for one that would make other Pokémon shudder just from seeing it.

"Alakazam, no doubt about it." Gengar said seriously.

Edward twitched his lips. There was definitely some personal grudge in that statement.

Gengar and Alakazam had a long history of bad blood. They often fought when they encountered each other. Pokémon researchers still couldn't figure out why. Edward suspected it was something from their ancestors.

Edward remembered that in the Pokémon anime, two huge ancient Gengars and Alakazams appeared, and they immediately fought whenever they met, which was extremely brutal.

"Anyone else besides Alakazam?" Edward thought for a moment. A single Alakazam appearing in the darkness, twisting spoons, didn't seem all that scary.

"Hehehe, then it's definitely me!" Gengar grinned proudly.

Edward squinted at Gengar. He didn't think Gengar was particularly scary. To him, Gengar seemed more like a Pokémon that would always pester him to play rock-paper-scissors, and was rather cute.

"Don't believe me?" Gengar sensed Edward's thoughts and his eyes suddenly changed. His body quickly swelled and twisted, while countless shadows wrapped around him. A chilling aura spread out, filling Edward with a sense of fear.

At that moment, Gengar looked far more terrifying, almost like an evil god of darkness.
