Chapter 66: Ch-66
Chapter 66: Kukui: Cheating? Painted Skin Rowlet!
The video continues—
Alola Region, Manalo Stadium.
[After recalling Warrior Eagle, Kukui sent out a new Pokémon—]
Venusaur!
Venusaur's Poison typing gives it an advantage over Grass-type Rowlet. However, Rowlet's Flying typing also counters Grass-type Venusaur. In terms of attributes, neither side has a clear upper hand.
"Rowlet, Brave Bird!"
Ash quickly called for Rowlet's ultimate move.
[Rowlet flew high into the sky, locking onto Venusaur with an adorably determined expression.]
[Then, it dove down rapidly. During its descent, friction with the air generated a light blue flame around Rowlet, giving it a majestic appearance as it charged towards Venusaur.]
[As Rowlet approached, Venusaur reacted quickly. The flower bud on its back opened, blooming into a massive flower that suddenly swallowed Rowlet whole.]
---
Audience at Palace Gate Stadium:
"Huh??"
"Did Venusaur just... eat Rowlet?!"
"Is this Venusaur or a Victreebel?"
The crowd erupted in shocked murmurs and laughter.
---
Back on the battlefield:
"Venusaur, Solar Beam!"
[Trapped in Venusaur's flower bud, Rowlet struggled to break free. Meanwhile, Venusaur began absorbing sunlight energy. Green light particles flowed into the flower bud, building up energy to its peak.]
[When the energy reached its limit, Venusaur unleashed an intense beam of white-hot light, aimed directly into the sky where it trapped Rowlet.]
[As the energy dissipated, only a Substitute cloak fluttered down from the sky.]
---
Champion Guest Seats at Palace Gate Stadium:
"What?! How is Rowlet unscathed?"
Even Flying-type expert Dodo was stunned.
"This... doesn't make sense!" Diantha muttered, equally baffled.
Rowlet, despite its four-times resistance to Grass-type moves, shouldn't have come out of such a close-range Solar Beam completely unharmed.
Cynthia, ever observant, murmured, "Could it be... Painted Skin?"
Painted Skin is Mimikyu's unique ability in the Alola Region. It shields the Pokémon from taking damage once by creating a protective layer.
Could Ash's Rowlet... somehow be using this ability?
---
On the Screen:
[Professor Kukui stood frozen, equally confused. How could Rowlet—who should only have the Overgrow ability—use Painted Skin?]
[The answer was simple: Rowlet had used its cloak as a makeshift Painted Skin, ingeniously shielding itself from Solar Beam's damage. The audience couldn't help but laugh at this seemingly "cheating" strategy.]
"Ash! Brave Bird again!"
[Rowlet, now recharged, soared high and dove at lightning speed, flames enveloping its small frame.]
"Sludge Bomb!"
[Venusaur reacted swiftly, spitting out a toxic sludge that intercepted Rowlet mid-flight and knocked it away.]
[Seizing the opportunity, Venusaur extended two Vine Whips and struck Rowlet repeatedly, finally bringing it down.]
---
Audience at Palace Gate Stadium:
"Aww, Rowlet lost!"
"What a shame! I wanted to see more of its antics."
"I've decided—I'm visiting the Alola Region to get my own Rowlet!"
Though Rowlet had fainted, its performance exceeded everyone's expectations. Most thought the unevolved Rowlet would just be cute comic relief, but it managed to defeat Warrior Eagle and even put up a fight against Venusaur.
---
The battle continued—
[Ash recalled Rowlet and sent out Torracat, knowing it had the type advantage against Venusaur.]
"Kukui using a reverse attribute matchup? My youth is truly over," Ash quipped with a grin.
"Power Whip!"
[Venusaur extended two glowing Vine Whips, aiming to strike Torracat.]
"Fire Fang!"
[Torracat lunged forward, its fangs blazing with fire. It bit down on the Vine Whip, and the flames traveled along the vines, directly scorching Venusaur!]
[The intense flames wrapped around Venusaur, eliciting cries of pain. Kukui attempted to counter.]
"Fire Blast!"
[Ash saw his chance and called for Torracat's strongest move. A massive, flame-shaped blast erupted from Torracat's bell, roaring toward Venusaur.]
[Despite Venusaur's best efforts to counter with Sludge Bomb, the sheer heat of Fire Blast evaporated the toxins and engulfed Venusaur entirely.]
---
When the smoke cleared, Venusaur had fainted.
Audience at Palace Gate Stadium:
"Professor Kukui's strategy backfired this time."
"Who would've thought Ash would turn the tables with a Fire-type attack like that?"
With Venusaur down, both Ash and Kukui were left with four Pokémon each.
---
On the Screen:
[Professor Kukui recalled Venusaur and sent out his next Pokémon. A white light flashed, revealing a regal figure.]
[Standing proudly, the new Pokémon had black skin with blue patterns and three crown-like horns extending from its mouth.]
It was Empoleon—the Water-and-Steel-type Pokémon known as the Lord of Waves.
Champion Guest Seats:
"Empoleon! What a majestic Pokémon!"
Wallace and Steven Stone, both Hoenn Region champions and fans of Water- and Steel-types, were thrilled.
"Empoleon's wings are so sharp they can cut through ice with ease. What a magnificent specimen," Wallace said.
"Absolutely. It's a symbol of power and elegance," Steven added, clearly impressed.
The champions' admiration for Empoleon immediately drew the audience's attention.
---
In the battle:
[Professor Kukui's Empoleon was not only a master swimmer but also a capable fighter. Ash, wanting to save Torracat for the battle against Kukui's Incineroar, decided to switch tactics.]
[Ash recalled Torracat and sent out Pikachu.]
