Chapter 7: You have money now
Ayan picked up the Poké Ball and turned it in his fingers, then looked down at the real-life creature standing by his side. Charmander looked up, tail flicking, a little eager hop in his step.
"Hey, Charmander," Ayan said, crouching again. "I was thinking… I want to walk around a bit. Just… take a look at the town. You wanna come?"
"Char"
The Fire-type blinked, then let out a happy nod.
"I think that's a yes," Tracey laughed.
"Give him space and companionship. Pokémon are more than battle tools—they're companions with intelligence, personality, and soul." Oak smiled.
"I know, Professor. I grew up dreaming of this." Ayan replied and that was the truth. Having a Pokémon as a partner and going on an adventure. Only a fool would say no.
"I believe you did. And that may be what makes all the difference." Oak said.
Ayan bowed slightly out of respect, then stood and turned toward the doors. Charmander padded beside him, tail-flame swaying like a lantern behind him.
"Where will you go first?" Tracey called after him.
"To see the town and then see the world." Ayan said and thus with Charmander, he set off walking side by side.
The sunlight greeted them warmly as they emerged. The breeze carried the scent of fresh-cut grass and pecha blossoms. Pallet Town looked like a painted dream—cozy cottages with tiled roofs, dirt roads dotted with happy children and meandering Pokémon, and far off in the distance, a slow-drifting flock of Spearow gliding across a blue sky.
Charmander trotted ahead a few feet, sniffing a patch of flowers growing near a fence, then turned and motioned for Ayan to follow.
Ayan smiled and jogged to catch up. Charmander's energy was infectious—like a little ember hopping across the earth, curious and unafraid.
As they made their way along the gently winding path that led toward the town square, Ayan tapped open the digital kit Tracey had handed him earlier—the starter trainer log. It shimmered to life in his palm, a sleek tablet with Professor Oak's insignia on the back. The display blinked as it synced, then opened to show his profile:
Trainer Name: Ayan ToriRegion: Kanto (Provisional Registration)Starter Pokémon: Charmander ♂ – Level 5License Status: Provisional - Field Researcher Clearance (Tier 1)
A soft chime sounded, and a new notification popped up. [You have received: Trainer Starter Kit]
He opened it eagerly, and a menu expanded with a gentle sound effect:

Ayan blinked hard.
He almost cried.
This was… this was way more than he expected. In most starter kits in modern regions, you might get three Poké Balls and a basic Potion if you were lucky. But twenty Poké Balls? Fifty cubes of each flavor? Berries and even a revive?
Professor Oak didn't just equip him—he empowered him. He turned to look at Charmander, who was now trying to copy a Butterfree fluttering near a mailbox, leaping with both stubby arms stretched out. Ayan felt his throat tighten.
"Thank you, Professor," he whispered, then shut the log and kept walking.
Eventually, they reached the center of Pallet Town. It wasn't large, but it was charming: a small plaza with cobbled stones arranged in a gentle spiral, surrounding a bronze statue of a Dragonite lifting a child in its arms—a symbol of harmony. To the north stood the iconic red-roofed Pokémon Center.
Ayan approached slowly, heart still fluttering with awe. The doors parted with a gentle whoosh. Inside, the atmosphere was cool and softly lit, like walking into a carefully maintained museum and clinic all at once. Various trainers sat waiting. Some were just playing with their Pokémon.
At the far end, under a large display showing current wild Pokémon activity, stood Nurse Joy—just as iconic as he remembered. Her hair coiled in twin loops, pristine white uniform, a soft pink hue to her eyes and skin. Ayan hesitated, then approached.
"Hello there!" Nurse Joy said as soon as their eyes met. Her voice was calm and melodious, with the kind of warmth that made you feel instantly safe. "New face?"
"Yes. I'm… new in town. Just got my Charmander today from Professor Oak." Ayan said while handing her the PokeDex as he had noticed that the trainers were doing the same before talking with Nurse Joy. She took the PokeDex while smiling and looked at the information of Ayan.
Then she looked up and said.
"Then congratulations, Trainer Ayan. Would you like me to scan and log your partner into the regional recovery system? That way, in case of any emergencies, any center in Kanto can recognize and treat him immediately."
"Yes, please."
He handed over Charmander's Poké Ball, though the little Fire-type stood beside him, watching curiously. Nurse Joy placed the ball into a slot on the counter, and a hologram shimmered above it, displaying Charmander's basic info and biometric scan results.
"Healthy and strong," she said after a few moments. "Seems like you two are already syncing well."
"He chose me," Ayan said softly.
"The best ones always do." She smiled again, knowingly. "All set. Don't hesitate to come here anytime. We offer treatment, rest pods, free field guides, and wilderness weather reports."
"Thanks, Nurse Joy."
He looked around once more. A mural along the curved wall showed a timeline of Pokémon and human collaboration—starting with ancient times, to the founding of Pallet Town, to Oak's early research days. After he was done with the Pokémon Center, he went to the Poké Mart which was across the street.
The Poké Mart had a cozy storefront—a little blue-roofed building with a rotating Poké Ball symbol at the top and a chalkboard sign near the entrance reading:"Trainer Supplies Restocked!"
