Pokémon: Rebron as Red, The Strongest Champion

Chapter 59: Chapter 59: The Millennium Ghost's New Path

After the Maiden's spirit successfully ascended, the Rainbow Wing in Red's hand dimmed considerably, but it didn't completely lose its life force. It seemed it would recover over time.

"I didn't expect you to be a trainer recognized by Ho-Oh. I really misjudged you just now!" the Millennium Gastly said in surprise, its gaze fixed on the Rainbow Wing with shock.

"How about it? Do you want to become my Pokémon?" Red asked. The Blood-Red Gyarados's menacing posture beside him made it clear to the Gastly that it didn't really have a choice.

"Although your Gyarados has the Dark type, don't think I'll give up so easily!" the Millennium Gastly declared, trying to sound brave.

'What an arrogant newcomer!' the Dragon Scale Charizard joked, lying silently on a rock, planning to witness how the Blood-Red Gyarados would defeat the ancient ghost.

'If I don't teach you a lesson, you really won't know your place!' the Blood-Red Gyarados roared. Its tail, wreathed in water, swung out in a powerful Aqua Tail that sent the Gastly flying ten meters away.

"That guy wants to run away!" Red said lightly, using Teleport to vanish with the Blood-Red Gyarados, leaving only the Charizard who had just dozed off.

"Hehehe, it's not that easy to catch me. If I can't beat you, can't I hide?!" the Millennium Gastly said smugly, celebrating its regained freedom.

"It's a pity your idea is too naive."

Red's words echoed in the Gastly's mind. The Blood-Red Gyarados suddenly appeared before it, opening its gaping maw and biting down on the ghost's body.

"You're killing me!" the Gastly screamed, trying to break free from the Gyarados's powerful jaws, but it was ultimately futile.

"I'll give you a chance for a direct battle. If you run away again, don't blame me for being impolite," Red said coldly, signaling Gyarados to release the ghost. He then used his Viridian Power to restore the Gastly's condition. If it ran away again, Red wouldn't mind letting his team gang up on it.

"It seems I have to fight," the Millennium Gastly said helplessly. Sensing the seriousness in Red's tone, it absorbed the healing energy, preparing to battle the Blood-Red Gyarados.

The Gastly took out an Everstone from its gaseous body and, under the surprised gazes of Red and Gyarados, demonstrated what two-stage evolution meant. Not long after evolving into a Haunter, it evolved again into its final form, Gengar.

Due to being a Shiny, the Millennium Gengar's skin color was a unique gray, unlike the usual purple.

"Let me explain first," the Gengar began. "With my strength, I could have evolved into my final form a long time ago. But you know that evolution is accompanied by changes in personality and thinking. I didn't want to forget my promise to the Maiden because of my evolution, which is why I've been carrying this Everstone all along."

Now that the Maiden had successfully reincarnated, the Millennium Gengar no longer had this psychological burden, so it dared to evolve with peace of mind.

"That's for the best. I won't have to help you improve your strength later," Red said leisurely, signaling that the Blood-Red Gyarados could make its move.

"What an impatient brat!" the Millennium Gengar complained, counterattacking with a Dark Pulse to contend with the Gyarados's own. But due to Gyarados's Dark typing, Gengar ultimately gave up the idea of a direct confrontation and dove into the shadows of the surrounding buildings.

Seeing that Red intended to use Aura to boost it, the Blood-Red Gyarados quickly refused. To demonstrate its seniority in front of this newcomer, it decided to defeat the Gengar by itself. It wanted to see what tricks this ancient ghost could pull.

If the enemy doesn't move, I don't move. The Millennium Gengar was currently in this stage. According to the type matchups, it held no advantage whatsoever. Diving into the shadows was also a way to adapt to its newly evolved body.

"Gyarados, the moonlight is about to be covered by dark clouds," Red reminded, telling his partner to prepare. The reduction in the shadow area meant that the Gengar would have to appear.

As expected, countless Shadow Punches were released from beneath the Gyarados's shadow. Seeing this, the Gyarados spat out a fireball, using Dragon Rage to break Gengar's attack. Because Psychic moves had no effect on the Dark-type Gyarados, Gengar was ultimately frozen by Gyarados's Ice Beam due to a battle error, then knocked to the ground by an Iron Tail.

"Go, Poké Ball!"

Red threw a prepared Poké Ball. It hit Gengar's body, absorbing it in a red light. The ball fell to the ground without any movement and was perfectly caught by Red.

"Welcome to the team, Millennium Gengar," Red said with a smirk. Now he had to consider which Pokémon to send back to Professor Oak's lab. Thinking of this problem, he couldn't help but recall the Professor's pleading gaze on the video screen during their phone calls. After much consideration, Red finally decided to send Pidgeot back.

He took out his Pokédex, pressed the transfer button, and sent Pidgeot's Poké Ball back to Professor Oak's lab. The sleeping Pidgeot didn't even know that it had been "sold" by Red and unknowingly sent to the "perverted old man" at Oak's Research Institute.

(Good thing I was sent out to battle by my master; otherwise, I wouldn't even know I had left the team!)

After witnessing Pidgeot being sent back, the Blood-Red Gyarados secretly breathed a sigh of relief. The Charizard who had been dozing off earlier also hurriedly flew over, not expecting Red and Gyarados to have disappeared from its sight in an instant.

'What? Not sleeping your peaceful sleep anymore?' the Gyarados joked.

'What are you talking about? I just didn't expect you to change locations so quickly!' Charizard said awkwardly, scratching its cheek with a claw.

Seeing them finish their conversation, Red took out his Poké Balls and recalled the two Pokémon. After a yawn, he used Teleport to return to the Pokémon Center. After a simple wash, he climbed into bed and went to sleep.

To help Milotic and the newly joined Millennium Gengar adapt as quickly as possible, Red began intensive training after waking at six in the morning. But the Gengar's attitude made the other Pokémon dissatisfied.

'Are you trying to die, you guy? Your attitude is so lazy!' Scyther was the first to blurt out a curse. It really couldn't stand Gengar's sloppy appearance and constant bragging about how long it had lived, saying it had seen enough training programs and had long lost interest in them.

'Scyther, give Gengar a period to adapt. After all, he just joined the master's team not long ago,' Onix rumbled, acting as a buffer.

Seeing that it was Onix persuading it, Scyther had no choice but to give him face and left on its own, no longer bothering with the slacking Gengar.

'Tch, what is it! Just a weak Bug-type Pokémon!' the Millennium Gengar muttered. Its own type perfectly countered Bug-types, so it naturally didn't take Scyther seriously.

'Watch your mouth. It won't be this simple next time,' Charizard said coldly, giving Gengar a fierce glare as a warning. Gengar, unwilling to yield, hid in the shadows and disappeared.

'What a troublesome guy. I really don't know what's so special about him that the master values him so much,' the Blood-Red Gyarados expressed its incomprehension, thinking it would be better to just talk nonsense with Pidgeot.

At the same time, Red was training alone with the recently evolved Milotic.

"Pay attention to the frequency of dodging. Don't move too much and minimize stamina loss."

Red continuously threw small, sharp-edged stones at Milotic. Once hit, visible marks would appear. An accidental mistake injured Milotic, but it voluntarily offered to continue, wanting to become stronger as quickly as possible and not let down Red's expectations.

"Take a break first."

Red stopped attacking and walked to Milotic's side, releasing his Viridian Power to heal her injuries. Milotic happily rubbed against his body, enjoying his caresses.

'I really don't know what makes this guy worthy of so many Pokémon following him…' the Millennium Gengar, hiding in the dark and peeking, wondered, its tone unexpectedly sounding jealous. After all, it hadn't been specially arranged for individual training by Red. Although it was because Gengar had voluntarily left the team, it still secretly longed for everyone's attention.
