Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Special Training
"Don't worry about it." Ash said, taking Pikachu's towel and wiping its body.
"Um, my name is Misty, from Cerulean City. What's your name?"
Indeed! Ash thought to himself.
He had actually been able to recognize her long ago, but his starting plot was different from the original. He originally thought he wouldn't encounter her, but unexpectedly, the process changed, yet the result remained the same. It seemed the two of them truly shared a destiny.
"Ash, from Pallet Town. This is Pikachu!" Ash said while wiping Pikachu's body. Pikachu lay in the tent, enjoying itself. Ash took the opportunity to introduce it as well.
"Aren't you going to return Pikachu to its Poké Ball?"
Misty looked a little strange. It would be much simpler to put Pikachu back into its Poké Ball rather than painstakingly drying it off.
"No... my Pikachu doesn't like being in its Poké Ball." Ash felt Pikachu's body tremble slightly when he heard Misty's words, but then it relaxed after hearing his reply.
"Is that so? How special." Misty had never encountered such a situation before and found it a bit special, but she didn't pry further. After all, it was Ash and Pikachu's own business.
After drying Pikachu, Ash then wiped the rain off himself. This scene, in Misty's eyes, once again refreshed her good impression of him.
Two towels. One given to her. Then he and Pikachu used the same one, and he even dried Pikachu first. This was enough to show that the boy in front of her was very caring towards Pokémon.
It was completely dark now. The sound of rain could be clearly heard inside the tent; the rain was quite heavy.
Ash opened a small desk lamp, then took out Pokémon food from his backpack, placed it in a bowl for Pikachu, and then continued to take out some emergency rations.
They were just some simple dry foods. He could actually cook himself, but he didn't have all the ingredients, and it was raining. He had brought some emergency dry rations, not expecting to use them on the very first day.
"Here!" He handed some emergency crackers to Misty.
Although they were just a few crackers, in this world, because traveling trainers often encountered unexpected situations and had high energy consumption, many emergency reserve foods had been specially developed. A small piece of such a compressed cracker was enough to fill an adult.
"Thank you!" Misty felt a little touched looking at the food in front of her, thinking to herself. It seemed her luck was pretty good; she met a very considerate boy.
She completely forgot the "straight man" persona she had assigned to Ash during their earlier argument.
In this world, nightlife was relatively boring. If it weren't raining, he could have done some special training with his Pokémon, but this kind of weather made training impossible.
Without much entertainment or leisure, and with bad weather, Ash went to bed early.
Misty was a little nervous at first. Although Ash had saved her and she knew he was a good person, being alone with a boy in the same tent was still a bit nerve-wracking.
She curled up on the other side of the tent, cautiously watching Ash under the dim lamplight. Pikachu nestled in his arms, breathing evenly, seemingly already asleep.
Slowly, Misty relaxed. Looking at his face in the lamplight, she unconsciously got lost in thought, her cheeks slightly flushed.
This adventurous day had truly exhausted Misty. Unbeknownst to her, she too fell asleep.
Ash's first day of his journey thus passed...
The next morning, Ash woke up early. By the time it was around 5 AM. The rain had stopped, but the sky wasn't fully bright yet. Ash didn't continue sleeping; he had slept early and enough.
He glanced at Misty, who was still sound asleep, carefully unzipped the tent without disturbing her. Pikachu's senses were keen, and it woke up when Ash did.
After brushing his teeth and washing his face by the river, Ash released Magikarp. It was a good time for Magikarp to exercise in the river.
At the same time, he prepared breakfast for both Pikachu and Magikarp, letting them fill their bellies. Then he walked upstream along the river, arriving at the jungle next to the campsite.
"While it's still early, let's do some special training!" Ash said to Pikachu and Magikarp in the water.
"Pika!" Pikachu and Magikarp responded simultaneously.
Then Ash found a wooden stake about a meter long, weighing around ten catties. He found some vines and tied the stake, with the other end tied to Magikarp's tail.
Because Magikarp couldn't learn too many moves, the only way to improve its strength was to enhance its physical abilities. Making it swim with weights would improve its physical strength and stamina, and perhaps it could even learn Tackle.
"Magikarp, it might be a bit tiring, but I'll be with you." After tying it, Ash gently stroked Magikarp's head and said.
Magikarp's round eyes became resolute. Then Ash also got up and said to Pikachu.
"Pikachu, next, we'll train Iron Tail. First, we need to improve the flexibility and power of your tail. Today's goal is 10 kilometers. Use your tail as a spring to move."
According to the anime, Pikachu's tail and the Iron Tail move were used in various creative ways, so this move was very important. No matter how difficult, he had to master it.
"Pika!" Pikachu clenched its fist and responded with full spirit. Then, he and the two Pokémon began their training, jogging slowly upstream along the river.
Pikachu bounced forward step by step using its tail as a spring, while Magikarp swam upstream against the current, increasing the resistance of the wooden stake.
The stake, originally only ten catties, now felt like thirty or forty catties against the upstream current. Ash also joined them, not slacking off.
While Ash, Pikachu, and Magikarp were training, Misty at the campsite also woke up, rubbing her eyes, and groggily got up.
"Morning!"
She groggily greeted them, but no one responded. She opened her eyes and realized there was no one in the tent. Her heart panicked, wondering if they had already left?
But she soon saw her backpack was still there, and at the same time, felt something slide off her. She looked down and found it was a blanket. Feeling the warmth of the blanket, she was a little touched.
Actually, she had her own sleeping bag, but last night she was too tired and fell asleep without getting into it.
