Ash caught the feather in his hand, looking up at the sky. Ho-Oh's figure had already departed. Misty, beside him, also looked at the feather in Ash's hand in surprise.

"So beautiful! I didn't expect to see a Pokémon I've never seen before." It felt like, apart from his bike breaking down, he was still quite lucky.

Ash looked at the feather in his hand, then gazed at the gradually fading rainbow in the sky, his eyes becoming determined. "Yeah! I'm really lucky. I'm leaving now, what about you?" He put away the feather, then asked Misty.

In the anime, their bond was forged over the bicycle, but now, the bicycle incident seemed to be over. He wondered if Misty had any other goals.

"Ah! I…" Misty was slightly taken aback by Ash's words. Although they had only just met, for some reason, she felt a little reluctant to part. She wanted to say she'd go with him, but frankly, they had only known each other for less than two days, and directly saying she wanted to follow felt a bit awkward.

For a moment, not knowing what to do, Misty asked awkwardly, "Then… where are you going?"

"Me? I'm going to Viridian City first, then I'll start collecting badges to participate in the Indigo Plateau Conference." Ash explained his next plans.

"Is that so? I just came from Viridian City. How about I guide you? That way, you won't take any wrong turns!" Misty's eyes lit up upon hearing this. Anyway, getting to Viridian City first was the priority!

"Oh, really! Alright, thank you then! Let's go!" Ash found it a little funny, but he didn't expose her. Traveling alone was indeed very boring.

"Mm!"

The two packed their belongings and immediately set off. Walking along the road, Misty had originally intended to give directions, but then realized she couldn't quite remember the way herself. Looking at Ash, even without her guidance, he showed no signs of getting lost. He clearly knew where he was going, which made Misty a little embarrassed. She kept her head down, secretly glancing at Ash from time to time.

Fortunately, Ash said nothing, but Misty knew that he knew the way perfectly well and was just intentionally not exposing her. She couldn't help but gaze at the boy's profile, thinking to herself, This boy is so considerate.

The two chatted as they walked, finally seeing a town at dusk. It was Viridian City, and they had already reached the highway. Following the highway would lead them into the city. Viridian City was actually not far from Pallet Town; the main challenge was the forest ahead. Once past the forest, it would be much easier.

The two entered the town together. Just inside Viridian City was the police station. As soon as they entered, they were stopped by a female police officer with long green hair, dressed in a police uniform.

"You two, wait right there!"

"Hm? Officer Jenny, is something wrong?" Misty knew much more than Ash from the anime, recognizing the female officer before them as Officer Jenny.

Ash also looked at the female officer with great interest. This was the police officer of this world, an important NPC in the Pokémon world, though in reality just a character the author used for convenience. But it was a very interesting concept. Although this world also had male police officers, generally only Officer Jenny had speaking roles, and every city had an Officer Jenny.

Every Officer Jenny looked identical and had the same name. Furthermore, Nurse Joy, the administrator of the Pokémon Center who revived Pokémon and provided accommodation for trainers, was also identical. A doctor and a police officer, both from the same family. The family had generations of police officers and doctors, and every member looked the same. Ash even suspected that their family relied on cloning, or perhaps it was a case of multiple births at once.

"You two look suspicious!" Officer Jenny eyed them both, then glanced at Pikachu on Ash's shoulder and spoke.

"Ah? What? We're not suspicious people!" The straightforward Misty immediately retorted upon hearing this.

"Recently, there have been frequent Pokémon theft incidents in Viridian City. Preliminary investigations indicate it's the work of a Pokémon theft syndicate. Pokémon are usually kept in Poké Balls. Since you're carrying one, I have reason to suspect you!"

Officer Jenny looked at Ash and Pikachu. Pikachu's ears twitched slightly upon hearing this.

"My Pikachu doesn't like being in a Poké Ball. This can prove my identity." Ash didn't mind; she was just doing her job. It wasn't as if a 10-year-old couldn't be a thief. In the games, aren't there 10-year-old Pokémon thieves?

Ash directly took out his Pokédex. For him now, he didn't really need the Pokédex to help him identify Pokémon he encountered, but the Pokédex still had a great use. For some trainers, it represented their ID. Not all trainers had an ID; most still had one document like in his previous life. Only a small number of trainers could obtain a Pokédex, so a Pokédex was even more useful than an ID.

"Hm? This is!!!" Officer Jenny also immediately recognized the Pokédex in Ash's hand.

Ash pressed a button on the Pokédex, and the Pokédex automatically opened.

"Hello, I'm Professor Oak. This Pokédex is given to Ash from Pallet Town. Also, this Pokédex is very precious. Once lost, it cannot be reissued. Please keep it safe. Alright, good luck!" Ash's avatar appeared on the screen, and Professor Oak's voice simultaneously came through.

"Ash from Pallet Town! So you're the fourth person from Pallet Town to arrive in two days. Alright! No problem, you can go in, but please be extra careful as there's a Pokémon theft syndicate in Viridian City these past few days."

After confirming his identity, Officer Jenny no longer had any suspicions. An ordinary trainer wouldn't be able to obtain a Pokédex; this Pokédex fully proved his identity.

"Thank you for the reminder!" Ash and Misty responded. Ash glanced at the police station entrance, where a wanted poster was displayed, but it was a bit blurry, making it impossible to see the full details. However, Ash already knew their identities. Without thinking much more, he entered the city with Misty, heading towards the Pokémon Center.
