Chapter 270: Chapter 270: Core

"Is this...dead?" As the two giant Pokémon disappeared, Ash was astonished, because from what had just happened, it looked like Charizard's Golden Flame Cannon had burned the two Pokémon to death, leaving no ashes behind.

"No...not dead!" But Ash quickly realized this was impossible.

Pokémon are protected by the world's laws. When they receive fatal damage, they fall into a coma, preserving their state. They won't die unless attacked again in this state.

"Did they just...disappeared?" Ash frowned slightly. He wasn't entirely clear about the situation but didn't hesitate.

After recalling Charizard and Pikachu, he went to the spot where the two Pokémon had vanished to investigate.

Meanwhile, at Professor Oak's Laboratory, everyone had witnessed the display of Charizard and Pikachu's might.

When they saw the two giant Pokémon disappear under Charizard's attack, they couldn't help but be stunned.

It seemed a little...unbelievable that such powerful Pokémon were so easily defeated by Ash.

Misty and Brock were fine, but the same couldn't be said for the others, especially the lab members.

They were very familiar with Ash. After seeing how powerful Ash had become in less than a year, they couldn't help but marvel at his growth speed.

Professor Oak had already seen the Golden Flame Cannon, but even so, he was still surprised by the power of this move, let alone now, as he had also witnessed the Thunder attack!

Professor Oak was eager to learn about these two moves, but he knew now wasn't the time.

He immediately summoned his staff, sending some to explain the situation to the police station, some to stay behind, and some to accompany him to the incident site.

The members of the archaeological team and Misty naturally followed Professor Oak. They also wanted to know whether the two Pokémon had been eliminated or what had happened.

Ash arrived at the place where Gengar had disappeared and was shocked to find dozens of members of the archaeological team lying on the ground.

They were scattered about. If their chests weren't still rising and falling, he would have almost thought they were dead.

Although they were lying scattered around, Ash noticed they formed a circle with a particular spot as the center, and there was an open space in the middle of the circle. In this open space, there was a strange black dumbbell.

"This is... the core of Gengar?" After Ash saw this strange black dumbbell, he vaguely recalled a scene from the anime he had seen.

The giant Gengar seemed to have emerged from this black dumbbell, or in other words, it evolved into a giant Gengar.

Ash released his other Pokémon and contacted the lab simultaneously. After learning that Professor Oak and the others had arrived and asking them to protect the present archaeological team members, he only took Pikachu and Charizard with him to the place where Alakazam had disappeared.

At the place where Alakazam vanished, Ash didn't find the same situation as where Gengar had disappeared.

There were no archaeological team members, but he did find the long crystal and spoon crystal he had seen before.

"Sure enough..." Ash picked up the two crystals and examined them. The crystals' luster seemed slightly dimmer than before, but it might have been due to the lighting.

Ash didn't delve into researching these things. After a quick look, he returned to where the archaeological team members were.

Since they hadn't woken up yet, Ash stayed and waited for Professor Oak and the others.

More than ten minutes later, Professor Oak's group finally arrived. Misty, ignoring the others, came directly to Ash, looking at him with worry.

"Don't worry, I'm okay. Look, am I normal?" Ash smiled and patted Misty's head. Although Misty's face flushed slightly, she didn't pull away.

Professor Oak and the others checked the archaeological team members and were relieved to see they were only unconscious and not seriously injured.

Professor Oak had already learned from several members of the archaeological team that they had been absorbed by the giant Gengar. Now it seemed that after the giant Gengar disappeared, they were released.

"Professor, I found this at the spot where Gengar and Alakazam disappeared." Ash approached Professor Oak and showed him the items.

Eve's expression turned puzzled. She thought these three crystals had been left at the camp, but now they had appeared where the two giant Pokémon vanished, which reminded her of something.

"I'm not familiar with these things either..." Professor Oak examined the items, shaking his head slightly,

"But I can ask other Professors to investigate. Professor Orchid might know their origin."

"...Professor Orchid...is that Professor Orchid from the Sinnoh Region?!"

White's eyes lit up upon hearing this, and she looked at Professor Oak excitedly.

She greatly admired Professor Orchid for her significant achievements in historical research. White had always wanted to meet her but never had the opportunity.

"Yes, that's her." Professor Oak nodded slightly. He also had a connection with Professor Orchid.

"Professor, I think we should safeguard these three items carefully. I have a feeling they might be related to the giant Gengar and Alakazam that just appeared." Ash cautioned.

"I agree, and I share the same thought. However, since I can't prove it yet, I want to consult Professor Orchid. She might have some insights." Professor Oak was naturally skeptical.

"Professor Eve, would you mind leaving these three items in my Laboratory for the time being?" Professor Oak turned to Eve, acknowledging that the items were excavated by her archaeological team.

"Of course not! But I have a small request. Could I be present when you contact Professor Orchid?" Eve looked at Professor Oak expectantly.

"Absolutely, no problem." Professor Oak laughed and nodded.

A while later, the Laboratory staff began transporting the archaeological team members back to the Laboratory. Fortunately, they had come by car.

After returning to the Laboratory, Ash and Misty bid farewell to Professor Oak and the others, assuring them they could be called upon anytime if anything happened.

Although Professor Oak was eager to learn about Charizard's Golden Flame Cannon and Pikachu's Thunder, he knew it wasn't the right time. So, he allowed Ash and Misty to return home and rest.

Delia breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Ash and Misty return home safely.

She then prepared a late-night snack for them, waiting for them to eat before they finally retired for the night.
