Chapter 245: Shocked—Paul's Crushing Defeat!
"Stone Edge!"
Brandon stood calmly with his arms crossed, eyes fixated on the battlefield.
Ever since his battle with Ash, Brandon's Pokémon had grown significantly stronger—pushing beyond their limits!
"Protect!"
Electivire's Brick Break, a move trained since it was an Elekid, had long since reached peak mastery. Despite having already struck Regirock directly, it still couldn't cause any meaningful damage!
Paul was starting to understand the crushing despair Reggie must've felt when he challenged Brandon...
And for good reason—Ash had also used Snorlax to lead his charge back then.
Even with their levels being comparable, Ash had Snorlax use Defense Curl followed by Belly Drum, raising its Attack by six stages before it could overpower Brandon's Legendary Titans.
And even then, Snorlax was eventually knocked out.
Now Paul wanted to beat Brandon?
It would be hard-pressed even if Brandon didn't use his three aces. Even his reserve Pokémon could likely shut Paul down.
The jagged Stone Edge shards surged toward Electivire. It raised a green barrier with Protect, successfully blocking the first chunk—but the second stone shattered through the barrier instantly!
Such terrifying power!
Not even Protect could hold, proving the massive gap in strength between the two Pokémon!
The rest of the stone shards slammed into Electivire's body!
But Electivire, arguably Paul's strongest partner, gritted its teeth and struggled to rise after taking the full brunt of the Stone Edge.
"Hyper Beam!"
Brandon gave no quarter.
A blinding Hyper Beam from Regirock blasted out.
Electivire fainted instantly.
Brandon calmly recalled Regirock.
This wasn't an official Battle Frontier match—just a personal challenge Paul had requested.
Which meant both sides were free to switch Pokémon at will.
"Go, Registeel!"
"So it's Registeel now… Magmortar, you're up!"
"Mag-ggooo!"
"Flamethrower!"
Magmortar, a terrifying Fire-type capable of thriving in volcanic magma, unleashed a torrent of scorching flames.
But Registeel was no ordinary Steel-type Pokémon.
Legend says its body was forged from ancient metal that won't rust for tens of thousands of years—it was practically indestructible!
Brandon didn't even flinch as the flames engulfed Registeel, who raised both arms and ripped the fire apart!
"Iron Head!"
"Registeel!"
The titan's entire body gleamed with steel energy!
"Block it, then use Fire Blast!"
Paul saw his chance—if Magmortar could land a point-blank Fire Blast, he might stand a chance!
Boom!
A thunderous collision—Magmortar was knocked back seven or eight steps.
Each step left deep craters in the battle arena!
"Huff… Huff…"
Magmortar couldn't execute Fire Blast—it couldn't even stop Registeel's Iron Head!
It was trapped in a state of fear from the brutal strike!
In this condition, a Pokémon can't even hear its trainer's commands!
"Damn it!"
Paul gritted his teeth and recalled Magmortar.
"Nidoking, it's your turn!"
Paul threw out Nidoking's Poké Ball.
"Flash Cannon."
Brandon remained as calm as ever. He'd seen this kind of challenger too many times before.
They get too emotional during battle—letting the thrill of the fight overwhelm their judgment.
Registeel's Flash Cannon struck Nidoking square in the head, snapping it back—but it still managed to stay standing.
"Earth Power!"
Though Poison-type moves were ineffective, Nidoking's Ground-type attacks could counter Registeel perfectly.
"This Nidoking… its Earth Power is impressive."
Brandon gave an objective nod of approval.
Registeel was engulfed by the surging quake, the ground beneath it trembling with explosive force.
"Double Kick!"
Fighting-type Double Kick struck Registeel once again.
It finally wavered—staggering on its feet.
Paul's eyes lit up with hope… but that glimmer was immediately extinguished by what happened next.
Registeel steadied itself.
Paul growled, "Thunderbolt!"
"Iron Head."
Electricity surged from Nidoking's horn, unleashing a powerful Thunderbolt.
But Registeel bulldozed through it with Iron Head and smashed Nidoking across the battlefield.
Nidoking fainted.
"Return, Registeel. What's wrong, kid? Didn't you say you were going to defeat me—something your brother never could? What happened?"
Brandon took out Regice's Poké Ball, turning a sharp gaze on Paul.
"Exactly because my brother couldn't beat you, I want to! It'll make the victory mean even more. I'm forging my own battle style—I'm not like him!"
Paul pulled out his next Poké Ball.
"You're wrong—completely wrong! Kid, battle style isn't something you artificially create. It's something you develop naturally as you bond with your Pokémon through journeying together. You are developing a style, but it's far too rigid. You're worse than your brother!
At least his Pokémon could go toe-to-toe with mine. After this battle, you'd better take a long, hard look at yourself. Regice—go!"
Brandon's voice boomed like thunder as he scolded Paul and sent out Regice.
"Aron, you're up! Use Iron Defense!"
"Blizzard!"
Zzzzzzzhhh!
Aron was instantly frozen solid in a block of ice!
"Zap Cannon!"
BOOM!
The frozen Aron was shattered by Zap Cannon, taking massive damage and fainting on the spot.
"Magmortar, back in the game!"
Paul's eyes were bloodshot with frustration.
Having been recalled earlier, Magmortar's fear state had worn off.
"Flamethrower!"
"Zap Cannon!"
"Reeeegice!"
Before Magmortar could breathe fire, Regice's Zap Cannon struck first—obliterating it just like Aron.
Only one Pokémon left…
Brandon recalled Regice again.
He reached for Regirock's Poké Ball.
Paul's hands trembled as he gripped his final Poké Ball—the last hope: Ursaring.
It was over. A total defeat. Crushed.
Until now, he hadn't even managed to inflict meaningful damage on a single opponent…
