Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Rebirth—Everything Begins Again
"Cousin Ethan! You should know by now," Jayden said, his voice eager and persuasive.
"There's just too much uncertainty in going to the breeding house to get your starter Pokémon."
The dimly lit room was quiet except for the sound of his voice.
Jayden stood before Ethan, trying hard to convince him.
"They always promise there's a good chance of getting rare Pokémon, but in reality, very few people ever get anything like a starter-tier Pokémon each year."
"Most end up with a Wurmple, Caterpie, or Zigzagoon—those worthless, dime-a-dozen Pokémon."
"And according to the information I've gathered, more than 80% of the Pokémon picked at the breeding house are barely worth raising."
"Rather than taking that risk, wouldn't it be better to go with something easier for a new trainer to raise?"
"As it so happens, I have two excellent Pokémon with great potential, and I'm willing to give them to you, cousin."
"In return, how about you give me that breeding house slot your parents got for you?"
With that, the scrawny Jayden placed two Poké Balls on the table.
Inside were a Bellsprout and a Pidgey.
If someone were to rank common Pokémon, these two would be on par with the likes of Caterpie and Zigzagoon—nothing special at all.
Trading these two for a breeding house slot that could offer a chance at a starter-tier Pokémon?
It didn't take a genius to realize Jayden was trying to pull off an absurd scam.
Ding! System notification
[Life Simulator successfully activated. System bound to host.]
[Random mission triggered.]
[Your cousin Jayden wants to trade his Bellsprout and Pidgey for the breeding house slot your parents gave you, which allows you to pick a starter Pokémon.]
[Choose your response:]
[1: Accept Jayden's request, take the Bellsprout and Pidgey, and receive a low-quality Water Stone.]
[2: Reject Jayden's request and kick him out of the room, earning a Basic Ability Capsule.]
[3: Make an outrageous demand for benefits while avoiding the breeding house terrorist attack set to occur tomorrow. Reward: Obtain information on a "Child of Destiny."]
Ethan snapped out of his thoughts and looked around the familiar room, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"I've… been reborn?"
His mind raced as he struggled to process what had just happened.
Just a moment ago, he had lost everything and jumped off a cliff in despair.
Now, he was back, alive again.
Ethan's eyes slowly settled on Jayden, who stood before him, and he rose from his seat.
His tall frame, combined with the coldness in his gaze, created an overwhelming sense of pressure.
Jayden instinctively backed away, startled.
'What the hell? Isn't he supposed to be weak and sickly these days?' Jayden thought, cursing silently. 'He doesn't look sick at all!'
"C-Cousin Ethan… I'm doing this for your own good," Jayden stammered, forcing a nervous smile.
Ethan chuckled coldly. For his own good?
Trading a highly valuable breeding house slot for two common Pokémon that even a novice trainer could catch?
This guy had the thickest skin Ethan had ever seen.
It was probably his scheming uncle's idea—Jayden's father, the notorious wolf in sheep's clothing.
On the surface, his uncle seemed warm and friendly, but in reality, he was a ruthless opportunist who would stop at nothing for personal gain.
In the future, Ethan's uncle orchestrated his parents' disappearance.
In the past, he arranged the so-called "accidental death" of his younger brother's son.
All these deeds had been proudly confessed by the man himself.
Ethan felt nothing but disgust toward that family.
He glanced at the system options, his mind made up.
Since Jayden wanted the breeding house slot so badly… how could he refuse?
But letting him take it without paying a heavy price? No way.
Ethan's eyes gleamed mischievously as he sank back into his chair, calmly sipping his tea.
"So, this is what you wanted to talk about? No problem at all."
Jayden's face lit up with joy.
"Really? Thank you so much, cousin!" Jayden said, visibly relieved.
Ethan raised a hand to stop him.
"Hold on, cousin. Your words earlier were a bit too harsh, don't you think?"
"The breeding house isn't as bad as you described. It's actually the top breeding center under the Lakeside City Pokémon League."
"Sure, it might be tough to get a starter Pokémon, but there's still a good chance of obtaining a rare one."
"You know how valuable a slot for the Master Breeding House is, right?"
"On the market, people are willing to pay four or five million credits for one."
"And yet, you want to trade me a Bellsprout and a Pidgey for it? Isn't that a little… ungrateful?"
Jayden forced a smile, realizing his scheme wasn't going to work so easily.
"So, cousin… what do you want in return?"
Ethan chuckled. "Your family is in business. You should understand how deals work."
His meaning was clear: If you don't offer me something worthwhile, you can forget about getting the slot.
If Jayden still couldn't get the hint, Ethan wouldn't even bother negotiating. He'd simply kick him out.
