He understood its impatience to test its newfound strength.

And while he knew that even at full power, Bulbasaur wouldn't harm the Tree of Life—

It was still best to be cautious.

After a moment of thought—

Hikaru had an idea.

"Alright, I'll find you a sparring partner!"

"Bulba, Bulba!"

Bulbasaur nodded rapidly—

Its eyes sparkling with anticipation.

"Come out, Gardevoir!"

With a press of a Pokéball,

A graceful white figure materialized.

"Teleport us to the base of the Tree of Life, please."

"Gardevoir~" (Of course~)

Gardevoir naturally took Hikaru's hand,

Then used its psychic energy to levitate Bulbasaur.

In the blink of an eye—

They vanished from the Tree of Life's upper layers.

Moments later—

They reappeared on the open plains below the tree.

At Gardevoir's current power level,

Teleporting across several dozen kilometers was effortless.

As soon as they landed—

Hikaru turned to Gardevoir and instructed:

"Gardevoir, create a Psychic construct of Frogadier."

"Garde?"

Gardevoir glanced at Bulbasaur—

The illusionary Frogadier's eyes narrowed coldly—

Staring calmly at Bulbasaur.

Bulbasaur immediately understood.

This was the opponent Hikaru had chosen for its first test.

Its expression hardened—

Eager to battle.

"Go, Bulbasaur!"

Hikaru commanded.

Then, he turned to Gardevoir—

"Gardevoir, test out your Psychic combat control as well!"

Gardevoir blinked—

Then its eyes shone with determination.

"Garde!" (Understood, Hikaru!)

Thus began a rather bizarre battle—

Where the opposing "Trainer" was Gardevoir—

And its Pokémon was a Psychic-constructed Frogadier.

Hikaru estimated—

That this illusionary Frogadier had a power level equivalent to a Level 25 Greninja.

However—

Since it was created by Psychic energy,

The usual type matchups didn't apply.

Hikaru took the initiative.

"Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip!"

"Bulba!"

With a shout,

Bulbasaur's two thickened vines lashed out—

Slicing through the air at blinding speed.

"Garde?!" (That fast?!)

Gardevoir was caught off guard—

Its Psychic control strained to maneuver its construct.

The illusionary Frogadier dodged by flipping through the air,

Barely evading the attack.

But—

The sudden rapid energy flow almost caused its form to collapse.

"Garde!"

At the last moment,

Gardevoir stabilized it with a sharp command.

Now fully focused—

Gardevoir stared at Bulbasaur in shock.

It had been watching Bulbasaur's training this whole time—

Among Hikaru's Pokémon,

None had worked harder except Hikaru's old Charmander.

But its talent...

Whether in move mastery speed or growth rate—

Had always been lackluster compared to others.

And yet now—

Hikaru grinned.

This was just the beginning of Bulbasaur's transformation...
