The rules of the West Lake Arena are doubles, and the qualifiers require defeating the official Trainer team. After two teams pass the qualifiers, the West Lake Arena officially begins.

At this moment, the final match is about to start. One team of Trainers has already defeated the official Trainer group, leaving only one spot in the final.

Today's event at the West Lake Arena is shorter than usual because it is a "University Freshman Special."

Knowing that universities in Dragon City are recruiting students, the West Lake Arena wanted to capitalize on this buzz. Only high school graduates who came to take the university entrance exam in Dragon City could sign up for the event.

The Rivals aren't particularly strong, and with a large crowd watching, many contestants believe this is their chance to shine.

However, most were swiftly defeated by the official Trainer group.

Most freshmen have only been training their Pokémon for a month and a half, and since it's a doubles match, their performance, while not completely terrible, was definitely hard to watch.

"Invite Trainers Amy and Chris to the field!"

After witnessing several overconfident Trainers get knocked out, it was finally Amy and Chris's turn to battle.

"Don't worry, just follow my lead," Amy said, patting Chris on the shoulder with a confident, "big sister will protect you" look.

"Sis, I'm already done for," Chris replied, throwing his hands up in mock defeat.

Their opponents were a pair of brothers, the official Trainers who rotated between multiple combinations for the qualifiers.

"Bro, it's a couple," the younger brother whispered.

The older brother squinted, sizing up Amy and Chris.

"Tch, I can't stand couples showing off. Let's go all out and break them up!"

"Yeah! Don't bully your brother who doesn't even have a girlfriend!" the younger brother added, fired up with righteous indignation.

The referee on the side cast a sympathetic glance at the two brothers.

The older brother shot a glare at his younger sibling. "Shhh, don't shout so loud!"

"And now, the qualifier for the West Lake Arena begins! Trainers Ian and William will face off against Trainers Amy and Chris. Each Trainer may use one Pokémon. When both Pokémon on one side are unable to battle, the match ends!" the referee announced.

"Trainers, please release your Pokémon!"

The four Trainers simultaneously threw their Poké Balls into the air. As the silver light flickered, four Pokémon landed on the floating platforms in the middle of the West Lake.

William sent out Krabby, and Ian sent out Horsea.

Chris and Amy sent out Frogadier and Croconaw.

The West Lake Arena is a standard water battlefield, so most Trainers tend to use Water-type Pokémon.

"Frogadier?" Amy was surprised that Chris's Pokémon had already evolved.

While it's difficult to judge a Pokémon's strength purely by appearance, for novice Trainers, the number of evolutions can often give a rough idea.

She had assumed Chris, who was accepted into the breeding department, would have weaker Pokémon, but it seemed she had underestimated him.

Once the referee confirmed both sides were ready, they declared, "Let the battle begin!"

"Horsea, use Twister!" Ian commanded right from the start.

Horsea surged forward like a bowing figure, unleashing a small whirlwind. As the pre-evolved form of the dragon-type Kingdra, the dragon blood in its veins allowed Horsea to master some weaker dragon-type moves early on!

The whirlwind quickly stirred up the water, forming a "waterspout" that swept across the battlefield, its wide range threatening both Croconaw and Frogadier on their floating platforms.

"Dodge it!" Amy and Chris shouted in unison.

Both Pokémon immediately leaped to the side, diving into the water to evade the expanding tornado.

But no sooner had Croconaw entered the water when a glint of silver shot up from below, hitting it square in the jaw.

*Bang!*

Krabby, hiding underwater after Horsea's Twister distracted everyone, launched itself upward. Its shimmering silver claw smashed into Croconaw's face, sending it flying out of the water.

"Croconaw, use Bite!" Amy commanded swiftly, recovering from the surprise attack.

With a fierce growl, Croconaw twisted in mid-air, its mouth glowing with a faint black light as it dived back down toward Krabby, jaws wide.

"Krabby, use Encore, then Metal Claw!" William countered, unfazed.

At the same time, Ian issued his own command: "Haze!" Not to attack, but to cloud the battlefield and separate Frogadier from the fight between Croconaw and Krabby.

A thick, black fog rolled across the battlefield like a veil, obscuring both Chris and Amy's vision. Frogadier found itself engulfed by the mist.

Chris didn't rush to give an order, choosing instead to keep Frogadier hidden, ready to act at a moment's notice in case Horsea struck. He trusted that Amy and her Croconaw could hold their own for now.

On the other side of the fog, Ian held off on giving new orders, allowing Horsea to join Krabby in a two-on-one assault against Croconaw.

"Croconaw, slam it into the ground!" Amy commanded, undeterred.

With immense strength, Croconaw clenched down on Krabby's pincers with its powerful jaws, spinning and smashing Krabby repeatedly onto the floating platform.

Although Horsea continued to pepper Croconaw with attacks, Croconaw's iron grip refused to let go of its prey. Three slams later, Krabby was knocked out cold.

"Krabby is unable to battle!" the referee declared immediately.

"Krabby's down?" Chris muttered, frowning. Horsea hadn't attacked him once during this battle, and now it seemed like Horsea had only been teaming up with Krabby to focus on Croconaw.

But Chris wasn't worried. Even if Croconaw fell, he believed his Frogadier could still secure the win.

As the haze cleared, what greeted Chris's eyes was Croconaw rocketing forward with "Aqua Jet," crashing straight into Horsea, then following up with a powerful "Bite."

Croconaw repeatedly slammed Horsea into the ground like a ragdoll, finishing the match decisively.

The referee swiftly announced the outcome: "Horsea and Krabby are unable to battle. The winners are Chris and Amy!"

"Congratulations to Trainers Amy and Chris for their victory, becoming the second team to pass the qualifiers! Please take a short break, as the finals will begin soon!"
