Pokemon system: strongest champion

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: 1 vs 2 Victory, Trip to Miyacha Mountain

"Then I will be the referee of this match!" Professor Oak stepped forward and declared, "Now Mason from Pallet Town will battle against Gary and Ye Zi, both also from Pallet Town. Each team will use only one Pokémon. The team whose Pokémon loses its combat ability first will lose!"

"The match begins!"

"Squirtle, use Water Gun!"

"Bulbasaur, use Razor Leaf!"

"Flamethrower," Mason said calmly.

The sun had fully risen, and the clear skies made the day bright and warm. Charmander's Solar Power ability was automatically triggered in the sunny weather. Flames blazed fiercely from its mouth.

The fiery blast instantly evaporated Squirtle's Water Gun and shredded through the fragile Razor Leaf. The remaining flames engulfed Squirtle's body.

"Squirtle, use Rapid Spin!" Gary ordered, unfazed.

Spinning rapidly in its shell, Squirtle extinguished the flames and cleared the smoke that clouded the field. Breathing heavily, it stood its ground. Luckily, Gary's quick command saved Squirtle from being overwhelmed by the scorching fire.

"Bulbasaur, use Sleep Powder now!" Ye Zi called out.

"Raise the dust with your claws!" Mason countered.

Charmander swiftly raked the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust that scattered and neutralized the Sleep Powder drifting through the air.

Several exchanges later, Charmander still held the advantage. However, it had begun to show signs of strain—frowning and panting after each attack. Ye Zi, carefully observing, furrowed his brows.

"Why can't we land a hit?!" Gary asked anxiously.

"Calm down, Gary!" Ye Zi said. "Didn't you notice? Charmander is panting after every move."

Ye Zi had caught onto the drawback of Solar Power—it boosted Charmander's strength under the sun but gradually drained its stamina.

"It seems you've noticed the weakness." Mason chuckled and tilted the brim of his hat. "But Charmander has already memorized the dodging patterns of Squirtle and Bulbasaur."

"What?!" Gary and Ye Zi exclaimed at once.

"Jenny!"

"Danay!"

Charmander unleashed another scorching Flamethrower. Despite Squirtle and Bulbasaur's agile movements, Charmander instinctively anticipated their positions and struck both targets dead-on. The blazing flames engulfed them, knocking them out.

"Come back, Charmander."

Mason gently returned Charmander to its Poké Ball after healing it with a spray. As he prepared to leave, Ye Zi stepped forward.

"Mason, don't get the wrong idea. I'm not stopping you just to invite you to join a team," he said, eyes filled with determination. "I've always admired your talent. That's why Bulbasaur and I will challenge you again—at the Indigo Plateau Conference!"

Mason gave a faint smile. "I'll be waiting."

"It's a deal!" Ye Zi grinned brightly. Ever since meeting Mason, Ye Zi had felt an indescribable admiration. From that day on, he was determined to qualify for the Pokémon League and face Mason again.

"Hey, don't forget about me!" Gary added, slightly annoyed. "I'm part of this rivalry too!"

"See you later." With a casual wave, Mason turned and vanished in an instant using Beedrill's Teleport, leaving Professor Oak, Gary, and Ye Zi blinking in surprise.

Miacha Mountain: Home of the Giant Onix

Mason's next destination was Miacha Mountain, a wild and rugged place known for being the habitat of enormous Onix. These giant Rock-types were stronger and more developed than typical members of their species.

Mason remembered the appearance of one such Onix in the original work and was determined to catch one before it fell into the hands of others—especially Bruno, the Elite Four member known for his partnership with a massive Onix.

"The power of Aura is in my heart," Mason murmured, closing his eyes.

Using Aura, he sensed the path of a powerful lifeform ahead—undoubtedly a giant Onix. He followed a trail that seemed to have been recently created, the ground marked by huge serpentine tracks. Mason observed the disturbed rocks along the way. This route wasn't natural—it was shaped by the movement of a colossal creature.

A deafening ROAR shattered the silence.

A huge Onix, towering like a building, emerged in front of Mason. The giant Pokémon roared aggressively, trying to scare him away. In its eyes, Mason was just another overconfident Trainer, and his Beedrill couldn't possibly pose a threat.

"Pin Missile!" Mason ordered, without hesitation.

Beedrill unleashed a flurry of needle-like missiles. The barrage struck Onix's rocky body, making it howl in pain. The sheer force of Beedrill's attack caught the massive Pokémon off guard—but it wasn't about to retreat.

With a growl, the giant Onix's tail began to glow with white energy. It swung the Oreburgh-like tail toward Beedrill in a powerful slam. Beedrill narrowly dodged it using Agility, but the force of the attack caused a rockslide.

"Use Sword Dance to clear the debris!" Mason commanded.

Beedrill spun midair, his twineedle arms glowing as he executed Sword Dance. The boost in power made Beedrill's attacks even more lethal. It slashed through falling rocks with graceful yet fierce movements.

"Now—Brick Break!"

Beedrill's twineedles turned white with energy and struck the Onix's head with precision. The blow was devastating, especially given Onix's Rock-type weakness to Fighting-type moves. The boosted power from Sword Dance made it even more effective.

Onix staggered, its eyes dazed. But it wasn't done yet.

With a mighty roar, the giant Onix curled its tail and hurled a collection of boulders skyward. Rock Slide rained down from above.

Beedrill countered with a calm and methodical approach. Using Brick Break again, it shattered the falling rocks one after another, glowing white against the darkened sky.

Still refusing to give in, the Onix summoned sharp, blade-like stones from the earth—Stone Edge—and launched them toward Beedrill.

"Counter with Pin Missile!" Mason instructed.

Beedrill shot a storm of missiles, intercepting and breaking the incoming Stone Edge attacks midair.

"Cross-use Brick Break!" Mason yelled, seeing his opening.

Beedrill's twineedles crossed, forming a gleaming white X. With blinding speed, it dashed forward and struck the weakened Onix with both arms in a final, devastating blow.

The massive Onix collapsed, breathing heavily. Its body trembled from the pain, yet its eyes shone with recognition. It no longer looked at Mason and Beedrill as pests—but as worthy opponents.

"Come with me on a journey to become the strongest in the world, Onix," Mason said, stepping closer, holding out a Poké Ball. "Do you really want to spend your life as just the king of a tiny mountain?"

The Onix looked at him, stunned. For so long, it had ruled over Miacha Mountain, unchallenged by any of its peers or the Trainers who passed through—none of whom had dared stand against it.

"Roar..." Onix let out a low sound, shaking its head. No. It didn't want to be a big fish in a small pond.

"What did you think of Beedrill's strength?" Mason asked quietly.

The Onix nodded solemnly. It now recognized Beedrill's power—not only as an individual fighter but as a Pokémon trained to perfection by Mason himself.

"Join me," Mason continued, eyes glowing with passion. "Help me become the world's greatest Pokémon Master, and I'll help you become the strongest you've ever been."

Without hesitation, the massive Onix lowered its head and gently touched the Poké Ball in Mason's hand. A flash of red light engulfed it, and the giant Pokémon vanished inside the capsule.

Mason smiled. The Onix's pride had not been shattered—but rather, awakened.

---

Later, Mason released Onix again and took out a healing spray from his backpack, gently applying it to the Pokémon's wounds.

The newly caught Onix was still getting used to Mason's strange ways. When Mason suddenly used Teleport again, Onix nearly jumped in panic—startled by the abrupt shift in space. It was used to rocks and caves, not spatial manipulation.

"Don't worry," Mason chuckled, "You'll get used to it."

The corners of his mouth lifted in a satisfied smile as he patted Onix's side.

"Welcome again, Onix."
