Pokémon: The Cheating Life

Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Battling Flint, Eevee Evolution

In the morning, Ronaldinho yawned as he arrived in Pewter City. After battling until midnight the night before, Charmeleon and the others were very tired. Ronaldinho checked the time and decided to visit the Pokémon Center first to recover before challenging the Pewter Gym.

At the Pokémon Center, he handed three Poké Balls to Nurse Joy and then headed to the cafeteria for a hearty breakfast. After enjoying his meal, he made his way to a vending machine in the center and inserted a coin. To his surprise, a can of orange juice dropped down.

As he pulled the ring, he noticed the words "Special Prize" printed on it. He suddenly remembered that this vending machine was known for awarding guaranteed prizes!

Ronaldinho was astonished to win a special prize, especially since he was just a bystander. After drinking the orange juice, he handed the pull ring to Nurse Joy, who then called Ronaldinho over.

A middle-aged man entered the Pokémon Center. While congratulating Ronaldinho, he presented a special prize: two round-trip air tickets and a hotel room card for three days and two nights. Ronaldinho looked at the tickets and discovered they were for the Hano Grand Resort on Akala Island in the Alola region.

Ronaldinho's eyes lit up immediately. This was a five-star hotel, and the accommodation was free for three days and two nights. However, he regretted that he had to be at the airport within a week and couldn't change his flight. Otherwise, it would have been great to go on vacation after the Pokémon League Competition.

After asking Nurse Joy, he learned that Pewter City had a small airport with direct flights to Akala Island. Ronaldinho took out his electronic map and decided to go directly to Akala Island after the gym match, which would also serve as a vacation for his three Pokémon. Then, he would fly directly to Saffron City, transfer to Cerulean City, and then head to Vermilion City.

After making this decision, Ronaldinho remembered that Ash and his group seemed to have gone directly to Vermilion City after defeating the gym in Cerulean City.

He also recalled that Lavender Town could only be reached after passing through Saffron City. Ronaldinho was quite impressed by Ash's ability to get lost, as they often had no idea where they were after all the twists and turns.

After retrieving his three Poké Balls, Ronaldinho went to the Pewter Gym, as Nurse Joy had informed him. As soon as he opened the door, he was drenched by the fire sprinkler. Watching the scene unfold, Ronaldinho coughed dryly, attracting everyone's attention. He said, "I am Ronaldinho from Pallet Town. Is the gym competition over? I want to challenge the gym."

Brock took back Onix and replied, "It's over now. But if you want to have a gym match, you'll have to wait a while. I need to go to the Pokémon Center to restore my Onix first."

Brock's siblings, who had accompanied Ash, also looked at this new challenger with curiosity.

Before Ronaldinho could say anything further, a voice came from outside the door: "No need, I'll take care of this gym match."

As soon as he finished speaking, a middle-aged man wearing a hat and a big beard walked in. Ash couldn't help but ask curiously, "Uncle Flint, why are you here?"

"Because, as an irresponsible father, I want to do something for my children," Flint replied, removing his hat and revealing the big beard that clung to his face.

Brock and his siblings immediately recognized him as their father. After all, the squinty eyes were a family trait passed down through generations. This recognition led to an awkward and emotional family reunion, making Ronaldinho feel quite embarrassed.

Once the family drama concluded, Flint accepted the gym and allowed Brock to go on his journey to fulfill his dream. It was finally Ronaldinho's turn for the gym competition.

Ash and his friends stayed to cheer for Ronaldinho since they were all from the same town. Brock also took on the role of a temporary referee.

"The gym match will be between Ronaldinho from Pallet Town and the gym owner, Flint. Each trainer may use two Pokémon in the match. The challenger can switch Pokémon at any time, but the gym owner cannot change Pokémon until one side loses both of their Pokémon and is unable to fight. Do you understand?" Brock explained.

"No problem," Ronaldinho replied confidently.

"You are the challenger, so you go first. My first Pokémon is Houndour," Flint announced, sending out his Pokémon.

"You're a newcomer with just a new Pokémon. I won't hold back too much; I just captured Houndour not long ago, so let me test your strength."

"Haha, you're in for a surprise. Eevee, it's your turn!" Ronaldinho exclaimed.

Ash immediately pulled out his Pokédex to check Eevee, and Misty leaned over to take a look as well.

"Eevee, Normal-type pokémon, the reason it's often mysterious is due to its unstable gene, which can be influenced by its surroundings. Its appearance can even reflect that of its trainer."

"No additional information; it's an unknown Pokémon," Ash noted.

"Ah, that's not a good sign for Ronaldinho," Ash said, somewhat concerned.

"Eevee, yawn!" Ronaldinho commanded, not wanting to take any chances. Since he was the one to attack first, he aimed to annoy Flint right from the start.

Eevee opened its mouth and yawned, releasing a wave of energy that caused dizziness across the rock field. Flint frowned, realizing this wouldn't be easy; he had just captured Houndour, who was unprepared with moves like Sleep Talk and Snore.

Ronaldinho's strategy was commendable; he effectively utilized his first move to inflict a status ailment. However, Flint was determined not to be underestimated. "Flame Vortex!" he shouted.

"Dodge it with Agility!" Ronaldinho instructed, his eyes lighting up with excitement.

Eevee quickly dodged the fiery vortex that Houndour unleashed, and in a twist of fate, Houndour fell into a deep sleep, helpless against Eevee's tactics.

He said, "Keep using Tail Whip and wait for Houndour to wake up to use Swift."

Flint helplessly watched as Eevee continued to use Tail Whip, causing Houndour's defense to decrease. After a while, Houndour finally woke up, only to be greeted by a barrage of Swift from Eevee.

Houndour collapsed helplessly, losing its ability to fight. Brock raised his hand and announced, "Houndour has lost its ability to fight; Eevee wins. Please ask the gym leader to change the Pokémon."

As soon as Brock finished speaking, a strong white light suddenly emanated from Eevee's body. The light gradually dissipated, revealing a pink and white creature with two bows on its left ear and neck. Four ribbon-like tentacles waved around, with one of them wrapped around Ronaldinho's arm.

"So cute!" Misty couldn't help but exclaim. "There is no information available. It is an unknown Pokémon," the Pokédex chimed in.

Ronaldinho squatted down happily and stroked the head of Fairy Eevee, saying, "You performed very well and finally evolved. Look, Sylveon is beautiful!"

After that, he took out a small mirror and showed it to Sylveon. Sylveon examined its new form from head to toe and nodded with satisfaction. It knew it was a beautiful Pokémon, and this form aligned perfectly with its aesthetics.
