Pokémon: The Cheating Life

Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Conquering Froakie!

## Chapter 6: Conquering the Froakie ##

Chinchou, Corphish, Clamperl, Pyukumuku, Luvdisc...

Countless precious water Pokémon were caught, and almost all of them were of medium quality, with a few being of high quality, and virtually none of low quality. However, Ronaldinho did not catch any of them. After quickly upgrading three Pokémon in battle, Ronaldinho noticed the difference between high-quality and top-quality Pokémon. In terms of skill comprehension and strength improvement, Beedrill outperformed Charmeleon and the others.

The middle-grade Pokémon were likely even more challenging to utilize effectively. Thus, unless he encountered a top-grade Pokémon or a high-grade one that he truly wanted to subdue, he would refrain from catching Pokémon with poor qualifications. High-grade Pokémon can be upgraded to top-grade by purchasing qualification-enhancing medicine in the mall, but it is prohibitively expensive. For middle-grade Pokémon, two pills are required to reach top-grade status, which feels like a waste.

Previously, there had been a few top-grade water Pokémon available, but they were not what Ronaldinho desired, so he let them go.

After all, the system had a task: to subdue six high-quality Pokémon to challenge the Indigo League Competition.

(Note: Indigo League = Kanto Region Pokémon League)

He cast his line once more, waiting for a Pokémon to take the bait. During this time, many tourists gathered to watch, drawn by the speed at which Ronaldinho was catching Pokémon. Occasionally, gasps of surprise erupted from the crowd, providing him with hundreds of popularity points.

"Hey, young man, are you a tourist visiting Akala Island? You're an amazing fisherman!" a mature woman's voice called out.

Ronaldinho turned around and was momentarily stunned. He couldn't help but exclaim, "You are... Kahuna Olivia!"

(Note: Kahuna = Island Queen; she is also a member of the Elite Four.)

Behind him was a dark-skinned woman riding a Megalodon, wearing a bikini that accentuated her figure. When she heard her name called, Olivia smiled and said, "It seems you know a lot about the Alola region. I am Olivia, the island queen of Akala Island. What's your name?"

"I'm Ronaldinho from Pallet Town. You can just call me Ronaldinho." He retracted his fishing hook and released a medium-quality Cloyster back into the sea.

"Well, Ronaldinho, are you a fishing master? Your speed is truly impressive," Olivia observed. She let Megalodon swim alongside Lapras, then gently jumped onto Lapras' back, petting Charmeleon's head as she spoke.

"It's just a talent," Ronaldinho said modestly. "By the way, are you, the island queen, enjoying some leisure time? Are you on vacation at Hano Grand Resort?"

"Haha! Even I need to rest occasionally," Olivia replied with a laugh. "Ronaldinho, you've caught so many Pokémon. Don't you want to subdue them?"

"Yes, but I'm quite picky when it comes to Pokémon. They have to be powerful, but what's more important is that I personally like them. If I like a Pokémon, I'll subdue it; if I don't, I'll let it return to the sea. After all, if I don't subdue them, I won't want to waste their time," Ronaldinho answered casually.

"Yeah, Ronaldinho, you have a very good personality. I like it," Olivia smiled, albeit somewhat awkwardly.

While chatting with Olivia, Ronaldinho suddenly felt his fishing rod tighten, and he quickly reeled it in. When he pulled it out of the water, he was delighted—he had finally caught what he had been waiting for.

A blue, frog-like Pokémon landed on Lapras's back. It was a Froakie of high quality! Although it wasn't top-grade, the thought of its final evolution, Greninja, made Ronaldinho unable to contain his excitement. His main water-type Pokémon had been eagerly waiting for this moment!

"Charmeleon, use Dragon Rage to subdue it," Ronaldinho instructed. He could see the HP value of the Froakie and roughly gauge its level. This Froakie was only about level 10, and under the Dragon Rage attack from his level 28 Charmeleon, it was subdued in one hit.

Once Froakie was caught, the Dragon Rage rendered it unable to fight. Ronaldinho joyfully took out a Poké Ball to capture the Froakie. He clapped his hands with Charmeleon and said, "Olivia, I've captured the Pokémon I wanted! I'm going to head back now. Thank you for bringing me here, Lapras."

Olivia congratulated Ronaldinho and then jumped back onto the Megalodon. Ronaldinho patted Lapras's head and fed it the remaining Pokémon food. Just as he and Olivia were about to leave, a long cry echoed from the depths of the sea.

Olivia's expression changed as she exclaimed, "That's the cry of Tapu Fini! How did it come to Akala Island?"

Before she could finish, a massive column of water shot up from the sea, revealing a purple Pokémon. It resembled a shell, with a purple exterior and a dark, beauty-like Pokémon inside. It was Tapu Fini!

At the same time, a sharp cry rang out from the depths of Akala Island, and a pink light rapidly emerged, sprinkling a colorful trail across the surface of the sea. It was Tapu Lele, who looked like a pink girl.

Ronaldinho observed the sparkling powder and quickly released Froakie from the Poké Ball. As Froakie came into contact with the phosphorus powder, its injuries healed instantly. It knelt down to express its gratitude to Tapu Lele, then turned to Ronaldinho and jumped onto his head, acknowledging him as its trainer.

Olivia looked at Tapu Fini and Tapu Lele in surprise. The two Pokémon communicated with each other for a moment before Tapu Fini tossed a stone at Ronaldinho from the air, glanced at him, and then dove into the sea, disappearing from view.

Tapu Lele, however, circled around Ronaldinho with great interest. She playfully swatted Charmeleon on Lapras's back, knocking it out. Then, laughing joyfully, she sprinkled some phosphorus powder to heal Charmeleon before quickly departing.

Charmeleon stood on Lapras's back, reluctantly spitting flames into the sky. Unhappily, it learned the signature move of the Charizard series—Flamethrower.

Ronaldinho patted Charmeleon's head and said, "Are you upset? Don't worry, I'll do my best to train you and raise you to a legendary level. Then we can come back here and take our revenge."

Charmeleon looked back at Ronaldinho's serious eyes, clenched its claws, and struck Ronaldinho lightly. It still recognized Ronaldinho as its trainer; after all, his ability had allowed it to level up quickly. Charmeleon believed in Ronaldinho's words without a doubt.

Olivia observed the determined man and Pokémon, unsure of what to say. "Do you really think it's that easy to train a legendary Pokémon?" she questioned.

As she noticed the stone that Tapu Fini had given Ronaldinho, her eyes lit up. "Ronaldinho, could you give me that stone first? I'll take it back, process it, and send it to you by tomorrow," she suggested.

Ronaldinho nodded and handed the stone to Olivia. He had already recognized that this stone was the Sparkling Stone used to create the Z bracelet. Not knowing how to handle it, he decided to leave it to a professional.

Afterward, he and Olivia left for the beach. Olivia left in a hurry, and Ronaldinho found himself pondering, "I saw a problem earlier." Quickly, he called the system: "System! I saw two legendary Pokémon! Why isn't there an extra reward?"

"Ding! Currently, the Pokédex can only record Pokémon from the Kanto region. Pokémon from other regions will be unlocked in subsequent missions."

"So, there are no extra rewards right now. They can only be unlocked when I venture into the Alola region later, correct?"

"That's right."

Ronaldinho: ...
