Pokemon: The Gameboy Effect

Chapter 173: The Imprisoned Beast

The seventh floor of the Bell Tower was cloaked in an eerie stillness. Three tombs stood solemnly beneath the grand, golden light emanating from thousands of illuminated Buddhas. At the center of it all, a massive Dusknoir lay dormant, its mountain-like form resting under the supernatural glow. Red talismans adorned its ghostly frame, pulsating faintly with malicious energy, much like cursed charms.

Three monks sat cross-legged in a triangular formation, channeling their energy to contain the mighty Dusknoir. Their Buddha light served as a spiritual barrier, holding the sleeping behemoth at bay.

As John stepped onto the seventh floor, his entrance broke the tense atmosphere. One of the monks, a middle-aged man with a hopeful expression, let out a relieved sigh. "At last, after all these years, a Trainer has made it this far."

The eldest monk, however, was less optimistic. His sharp gaze fixed on John. "Young man, are you sure you can defeat it? We've seen Trainers come before you, only to fail."

John's eyes narrowed as he assessed the Dusknoir. It was colossal, exuding an aura of overwhelming power. The talismans on its body seemed to pulse ominously, and the air around it felt heavy with malice.

The glowing text above the ghostly figure read: Overlord, LV70.

This wasn't just any Pokemon—it was a true boss, possibly a Alpha Pokemon. John felt a bead of sweat roll down his temple. A level 70 was no joke. Even so, he tightened his grip on his Pokeball. "I'll give it a shot," he said confidently. "I didn't come all this way to back down."

The monks exchanged a glance, silently coming to a consensus. The middle-aged monk finally nodded. "Then we'll let you try. But be warned—if you fail, the consequences will be dire."

As they stood, they withdrew their spiritual energy, and the golden Buddha light in the air shattered like glass. The once-dormant Dusknoir stirred, faint traces of awakening evident in its hulking form.

John didn't waste a moment. "Greninja, Blaziken, Gardevoir, Garchomp—let's go!" he shouted, releasing his team in a burst of light. "Bangira, use Dark Pulse! Greninja, hit it with Night Slash! Blaziken, go for Flamethrower! Gardevoir, use Psychic! Garchomp, fire off a Dragon Pulse! Everyone, full force!"

The air was instantly filled with colorful flashes as powerful attacks hurtled toward the groggy Dusknoir. But just before the barrage connected, Dusknoir's form flickered and disappeared.

The attacks collided with the ancient Bell Tower walls, causing a deafening explosion. But the centuries-old structure stood firm, a testament to its craftsmanship. John scanned the area, his heart racing. Where did it go?

One of the monks stepped forward, his tone grave. "The spirit world. Dusknoir has likely retreated there. It cannot escape—the spiritual space is sealed—but beware. It can strike from any direction at any moment."

"Perfect," John muttered under his breath. "Just what I needed—Phantom Force. Gardevoir, Future Sight! Let's get ahead of this thing."

Gardevoir nodded, its elegant hands glowing as it peered into the temporal void. Its psychic abilities showed glimpses of the future, and it pointed upward just in time.

"Above us!" John yelled.

A massive shadowy fist materialized overhead, plummeting toward the group with devastating force. It was Dusknoir's Shadow Punch! But Gardevoir had already prepared. With a graceful motion, it unleashed a barrage of Moonblast projectiles, intercepting the spectral attack. The clash sent shockwaves rippling through the room.

"Keep it up, everyone!" John ordered.

Greninja darted forward, its Substitute clone taking the lead while it slashed at the air with Night Slash. Blaziken was hot on its heels, unleashing a flurry of Double Kick and Force Palm strikes. Garchomp took to the skies, using Aerial Ace to rain down fierce attacks. Gardevoir supported from a distance, its Moonblast beams lighting up the dark chamber like falling stars.
