The Aron tribe occupying this small iron mine was just a minor group. Their strongest member, an Aggron, was only level 52.
Compared to Ranka's level 61 Aggron—one that had been carefully trained since birth and had mastered numerous moves—the strength gap was enormous.
In just a few minutes, even with support from its fellow tribe members, the strongest Aron in the group was cleanly and decisively defeated by Ranka's Aggron.
Seeing this, the other Aron, Lairon, and Aggron instantly realized they were facing an overwhelmingly powerful opponent. Panic-stricken, they scattered and fled in all directions.
"What a bunch of trash. Aggron, hurry up and eat. Don't dawdle—we still have a long way to go. Ugh, this place is absolutely filthy."
Ranka sneered as he watched the fleeing Pokémon, his face twisted in disdain. He looked in disgust at the muddy filth clinging to the hems of his pants and the soles of his shoes, then barked at his Aggron, which was munching down chunks of iron ore.
Aggron knew his grumpy trainer all too well and ignored him entirely, continuing to slowly chew through the iron ore, using its powerful stomach to swiftly digest the metal.
Ranka's frustration surged at Aggron's slow pace, but despite his annoyance, there was nothing he could do about his ace Pokémon. In the end, all he could do was walk over and kick Aggron a few times to vent, then wait patiently on the side.
Nearby, Noda rushed over to serve Ranka attentively—holding an umbrella, offering him water—acting like a completely devoted attendant.
Meanwhile, because Aggron's meal had temporarily halted Ranka's journey, Sato and Thomas were swiftly closing in on Diamond Canyon with the help of Arcanine and Rapidash.
However, Sunflora Forest was still several dozen kilometers from Diamond Canyon, with the territories of several wild Pokémon tribes lying in between. It would be a while before Sato and his team arrived.
At that same moment, in an open-air gem mine somewhere in Diamond Canyon, a tanned-skinned beauty dressed in a wild, tribal-style outfit was forcefully striking the ground with a mining pick. Her delicate face was lit with excitement.
Each time she unearthed a particularly fine gemstone, her eyes sparkled brightly, and she carefully placed the gem into a large animal-hide bag beside her.
Next to her, a massive Dragon-type Pokémon—towering like a small mountain—was also digging into the ground with its claws. Like the girl, every time it uncovered a high-quality gem, it would stare at it with obsessive fascination.
Aside from the girl and the hulking Dragon-type, there were other creatures around the open-air mine, most of whom were trembling on the ground. Some even had massive lumps on their heads.
Only a few strong wild Pokémon dared to remain standing, but all of them wore wary expressions, their eyes filled with fear as they looked at the mountain-like figure beside the girl.
Indeed, this wild beauty and the Dragon-type Pokémon beside her were none other than Vanna and her brother, Kommo-o. The two of them were currently stockpiling wealth here to one day build their grand dragon lair.
Unlike most of the other contestants, this mysterious island posed virtually no threat to Vanna, a dragon princess raised among wild Pokémon habitats.
Here on the island, Vanna was like a dragon returning to the sea. With her superb wilderness survival skills, treasure-hunting instincts, and sheer power, she had already uncovered a wealth of treasures on the island.
Thanks to the aggressive nature of dragons, she and her brother had also challenged many leader Pokémon from major tribes over the past few days. Though they were occasionally chased off, they usually emerged victorious—and their strength had grown rapidly.
While ordinary trainers might struggle to heal injured Pokémon, Vanna was a different case altogether.
Raised by experienced Dragon-elder mentors, Vanna—though not the best in combat—was her tribe's foremost healer. She was well-versed in herbs and medicines, able to easily find potent healing herbs in any forest and concoct highly effective salves.
Her field-mixed remedies were in no way inferior to what Team Rocket supplied—in fact, they were often better.
On top of that, her brother Kommo-o possessed pure dragon lineage and an incredible natural healing ability.
No matter how badly he was wounded, as long as he was still breathing, Vanna's healing skills could help him recover rapidly.
In fact, most wild Pokémon who encountered Kommo-o, a Dragon-type of such terrifying might, would immediately try to flee—even when he was gravely injured. No one dared to try taking advantage of a wounded dragon.
Vanna had first appeared on the island in a forest over a hundred kilometers southwest of Diamond Canyon. Following dragon tradition, she began expanding outward, establishing her dominance through strength.
Every powerful Dragon-type Pokémon had its own territory. Though they often traveled alone, beneath them was a sizable army of Pokémon they had conquered through battle.
So, for any trainer hoping to catch a Dragon-type in the wild, they'd first need to defeat its elite entourage.
Currently, Vanna and Kommo-o had already defeated several major tribe leaders, converting them into vassals via dragon tradition.
Vanna rarely used maps. She and her brother had returned to Diamond Canyon only because they'd interrogated and looted a Murkrow tribe leader the day before—and that leader had mentioned a place full of glittering treasures.
Early this morning, Vanna and Kommo-o arrived. While challenging local wild Pokémon, they also began their treasure-hunting expedition.
So far, they'd discovered many gems to their liking.
This open-air gem mine, in particular, had yielded huge rewards and sparked hope that they could build a luxurious dragon lair before reaching adulthood.
Their only headache now was the limited space in their bags—they couldn't take all the glittering stones they'd found.
"Bro, my bag's almost full! Stop shoving those junk stones in here!"
Vanna pouted as she looked at the overstuffed hide sack. Unhappy, she began preparing to toss out the lower-quality gems.
"Rooaaar!"
When it came to treasure, Kommo-o wouldn't give an inch—not even to his own sister. Hearing her plan to toss out his hard-won loot, he roared anxiously.
For a moment, the two glared at each other, and the atmosphere turned tense. Around them, the wild Pokémon quickly lowered their heads and trembled even harder.
But the awkward tension didn't last long. A series of "Beep-beep-beep~" sounds suddenly drew both Vanna's and Kommo-o's attention.
"Oh right! Those guys should have storage devices with plenty of room! Bro, let's go track them down!"
Vanna pulled a palm-sized scanner from her pocket. Upon checking it, she seemed to remember something, and her previous frustration vanished in an instant. Excited, she turned to Kommo-o.
"Rooaaar!"
Kommo-o's eyes lit up at her words. He crouched down to let Vanna hop onto his back, then grabbed the hide sack from the ground. With Vanna pointing the way, he dashed off at top speed.
