Although Noda had lost the unreliable Ranka as a powerful backer, he was by no means a weak Trainer. He wouldn't just sit and wait for defeat.

"Come out—Typhlosion, Victreebel, Ninjask, Poliwrath!"

"Typhlosion, Dig and hide underground!"

"Victreebel, disguise yourself as a plant in the thick vegetation to the left!"

"Ninjask, take to the skies and stay hidden!"

"Poliwrath, dive into the nearby river!"

"Listen carefully! Stay hidden and wait patiently for my command. Do not expose yourselves without my order!"

Immediately after arriving at the flat riverside terrain atop Dodrio, he released all his Pokémon and rapidly issued commands to each of them.

Soon, all but Dodrio had gone into hiding around the area in accordance with his instructions.

Then, Noda also led Dodrio to a concealed spot nearby, where he crouched down and waited patiently for the enemy to appear—ready to launch a fierce ambush.

Just in case, he clutched a palm-sized device tightly in his hand, prepared to send a distress signal to the base the moment he was defeated.

However, perhaps because he was too tense, Noda had forgotten a crucial fact—it was currently the fourth day since arriving on the island. And according to protocol, the base's teleportation gate underwent maintenance and recharging every three days.

Which meant today was a recharge day—also known as a Danger Day, a time when contestants on the island could kill without consequence.

"They're finally here... Let's see who you are. Even if you're one of those damn Rocket elites, if you think you can take my badge without a fight, you'd better be ready to lose some flesh."

A few minutes later, as the ground vibrated ever so slightly beneath him, Noda—hidden beneath a thick cluster of vegetation—held his breath, grim resolve flashing in his eyes.

Then, just over ten seconds later, a thunderous rumble shook the ground—boom boom boom~~—growing louder by the second.

And soon enough, following the sound, Noda saw the figure of his oncoming enemy.

"..."

It was a massive Kommo-o—tall and overwhelmingly built.

Noda's heart sank completely. He immediately recognized the identity of his opponent.

It was the very person even Ranka didn't dare provoke: Vanna.

Right then, Noda felt like a complete fool. He knew the ambush he had carefully prepared had absolutely no chance of success.

The overwhelming dragon's presence radiating from the Kommo-o was too terrifying. He could already see that both his Victreebel and Dodrio had fallen into a Flinch state, unable to withstand the pressure.

Those two were among his strongest Pokémon—only slightly weaker than Typhlosion. If even they couldn't handle it, then Poliwrath and Ninjask stood no chance at all.

Perhaps only the fiercely combative Typhlosion might be able to stand firm against that Kommo-o.

Noda himself was no better off. Especially when the Kommo-o locked its cold, merciless eyes on him and began walking toward him step by step—it felt like the creature was stomping directly on his heart.

"I surrender!!!"

At last, drenched in sweat and pale as a ghost, Noda couldn't take the psychological pressure anymore. He leapt out of the vegetation with both hands raised and shouted at the Kommo-o—now less than five meters away.

While Noda was surrendering to Vanna, Ranka finally crossed the territory of the large Aron tribe and arrived at the rocky terrain—just in time to run into Sato.

"It's you—Sato! You actually had the guts to come find me."

"And you—stray dog. Looks like you're the one who helped him track me down. Unbelievable. You want to taste death again, huh? Heh heh heh~~"

Ranka looked surprised to see Sato riding Arcanine, then turned his gaze toward Thomas on Rapidash. His expression darkened, and he growled with killing intent.

"Come out—Swampert, Bellossom, Gyarados, Golduck, Ursaring, Ariados, Heracross—battle formation!"

"Swampert, Mud Bomb!"

"Arcanine, Flamethrower!"

"Bellossom, Energy Ball!"

"Gyarados, Hydro Pump!"

"Golduck, Hydro Pump!"

"Ursaring, Hyper Beam!"

"Ariados, Pin Missile!"

"Heracross, Pin Missile!"

Strike first! Sato didn't waste time talking. The moment he saw Ranka, he released all his Pokémon and immediately issued attack orders.

"Let's go—Houndoom, Pinsir, Seismitoad, Slakoth!"

"Houndoom, Flamethrower!"

"Pinsir, Rock Slide!"

"Seismitoad, Rain Dance!"

"Slakoth, head to Lord Sato!"

Thomas had been ready to shoot back with a retort, but seeing Sato move instantly, he wisely kept quiet and followed suit—releasing all his Pokémon and giving them immediate commands.

"You're all looking to die—come out! Aggron, Zweilous, Victreebel, Houndoom, Ludicolo!"

Seeing the sudden coordinated assault, Ranka immediately had Yanmega dodge while hurling his PokéBalls in several different directions to release his own Pokémon.

In the next second, Sato and Thomas's Pokémon launched a full barrage of attacks at Ranka's position.

BOOM!!!

A massive explosion tore through the ground where Ranka had just been standing, creating a wide crater.

If he hadn't dodged in time, he would've been blown to bits on the spot.

At the same moment, as Seismitoad's Rain Dance took effect, dark clouds rapidly gathered over the battlefield. A steady drizzle began falling.

Meanwhile, Kecleon—resting on Sato's shoulder—used Role Play to copy Slakoth's Truant Ability, now that Slakoth had climbed onto Arcanine's back.

But due to Truant, Kecleon became lethargic and couldn't even maintain its invisibility.

"Zweilous, sweep the field with Dragon Rage! Yanmega, Air Slash—target the one on Arcanine's back!"

"Victreebel, Houndoom—Protect! Cover Aggron!"

"Ludicolo—take advantage of the rain! Kill that guy on Rapidash!"

Looking at the devastation where he once stood, Ranka broke into a cold sweat. Then, his face twisted with rage. With murder in his eyes, he shouted commands at his Pokémon.

"ROAARRR!!"

Zweilous—freshly released—let out a fearsome bellow. Twin orange-red energy spheres launched from both of its mouths, blanketing Sato's team in a barrage of Dragon Rage.

Simultaneously, Yanmega and Ludicolo shot forward like arrows, one aiming at Sato, the other at Thomas—killing intent rolling off them like a storm.

"Aggron, Mega Evolve!!!"

On the other side, with Victreebel and Houndoom in position and their Protect barriers fully deployed around Aggron, Ranka finally reached his partner's side. He solemnly pressed the Key Stone on his neck.

In an instant, multicolored energy ribbons shot out from the Key Stone, linking with the Mega Stone on Aggron's forehead.
