Chapter 63: Chapter 63: He Will Be Obedient After A Beating
"I'll try."
Gary knew that Pidgeotto's intimacy with him was only 70, which meant the Pokémon wouldn't obey his orders completely. Although using force to get obedience might seem harsh, it wasn't unheard of. After all, in previous generations, many parents believed there was nothing that couldn't be solved by a good beating. If something didn't work, it was because the punishment wasn't enough. Just beat them more.
"Pidgeotto, come out," Gary commanded, releasing the Pokémon.
"Pidgeot!"
Pidgeotto stood a meter tall, its feathers soft and bright, giving it a majestic look. With its appearance, it already resembled a smaller Pidgeot. However, it quickly locked eyes with Gary and immediately flew up into the sky, clearly attempting to escape.
"Golbat, chase him and use Mean Look!" Gary responded quickly, throwing out the Poké Ball.
"Da!!"
Golbat swiftly caught up to Pidgeotto and positioned itself in front of the bird. Using its captivating eyes, Golbat stopped Pidgeotto's flight, trapping him in place.
"Let's fight!"
Seeing no way out, Pidgeotto became reckless and launched a Quick Attack toward Golbat.
"Cross Poison!" Gary ordered.
A layer of purple energy surrounded Golbat's wings, and Golbat flapped them, countering with a Dual Wingbeat that met Pidgeotto head-on.
Despite being at a lower level, Pidgeotto fought back fiercely. They exchanged blows for several rounds, and Pidgeotto held its ground well.
"Use Supersonic!" Gary called.
Golbat unleashed a loud, chaotic Supersonic from its mouth. The sonic waves immediately locked onto Pidgeotto. Unable to escape the noise, Pidgeotto was disoriented after connecting with Golbat's Quick Attack. It fell into a confused state.
"Very good, now use Air Cutter to finish him off!" Gary commanded.
Golbat swung its wings, and sharp wind blades appeared, slicing through the air toward Pidgeotto.
"Beat!"
Pidgeotto let out a cry of distress and fell to the ground with a thud, weakened by the sharp blades.
Golbat didn't let up, attacking again with another round of Air Cutter. Pidgeotto, already vulnerable, couldn't endure for long and lost consciousness.
"Really, can't you just be obedient?" Gary muttered as he looked at the fallen Pidgeotto, shaking his head. He recalled both Pidgeotto and Golbat back to their Poké Balls.
---
Back at the Pokémon Center, Gary and Sabrina handed their injured Pokémon over to Nurse Joy for treatment.
Half an hour later, Gary received his Pokémon back.
Curious, he checked Pidgeotto's stats to see how its intimacy with him had changed.
[Pokémon: Pidgeotto♂]
[Attribute: Normal, Flying]
[Level: 28]
[Potential: Quasi-Elite]
[Ability: Sharp Eyes (Thanks to Sharp Eyes, the hit rate will not be reduced.)]
[Skills: Tackle, Sand Attack, Gust, Quick Attack, Twister, Feather Dance.]
[Intimacy: 90 (max value 255)]
Gary sighed. "You really deserve to be punished..." he muttered.
Before the beating, Pidgeotto's intimacy was 70, but now it had risen to 90. It was clear that the tough treatment had an effect. If only Gary had brought a Soothe Bell for Pidgeotto; with that, its intimacy would've risen to 110.
Gary found a quiet spot and released Pidgeotto again.
"Beat!"
This time, Pidgeotto didn't try to escape. It simply turned its head, refusing to look at Gary.
It seemed that Pidgeotto wasn't so much obedient as resigned, still not fully recognizing Gary as its master.
"Here, take this." Gary said, taking out a Soothe Bell from his backpack.
Last time when he bought Soothe Bells for Eevee, Gary had purchased six in total, intending to give one to each Pokémon whose intimacy wasn't maxed out. This one was for Pidgeotto.
"Bi…!" Pidgeotto hesitated but allowed Gary to attach the Soothe Bell to its body.
Gary then took out a comb and began gently brushing Pidgeotto's feathers. As he worked, he used two low-level Rare Candies to raise Pidgeotto's level to 30.
"Bi!" Pidgeotto looked confused at first, but as it felt the power surge through its body, it realized something had changed. It looked at Gary, realizing that the change was due to the human in front of it.
Pidgeotto's strength had increased, and Gary, now looking far more agreeable, became much more tolerable in its eyes.
"Be obedient, and I'll help you become stronger," Gary said kindly.
"Compete!" Pidgeotto nodded slightly. It had initially thought it could become stronger on its own, but now it wasn't so sure. Perhaps Gary really could help it get stronger, but only time would tell. For now, Pidgeotto was willing to give him a chance. If Gary proved unworthy, Pidgeotto would find another opportunity to escape.
"Let's go. I'll take you to see your new teammates." Gary said, allowing Pidgeotto to perch on his arm. It felt light enough, so Gary walked with him to the public training grounds.
"Everyone, come out!" Gary shouted.
One by one, Gary released the five Pokémon currently with him.
"Compete!"
Pidgeotto was taken aback when he saw Gary release five Pokémon at once. Pidgeotto had seen many Trainers, but it was rare to see one release so many at the same time. Normally, two or three Pokémon would be the limit.
"Compete!" Pidgeotto's eyes locked on Golbat, and its gaze sharpened.
"Da…" Golbat was a bit uncomfortable. Despite being a bat and having a natural inclination toward battle, it had a gentle personality. It had chosen to leave its wild tribe so it wouldn't harm its fellow Pokémon.
"Don't get mad at Golbat," Gary said, noticing Pidgeotto's tense stance. "Golbat is very gentle. It fought you because it listens to my commands."
"Fight!" Pidgeotto ignored Gary's words and eyed the rest of Gary's Pokémon. It observed that, aside from Blastoise, the others didn't seem like real threats to it.
As for Golbat, Pidgeotto believed it would eventually surpass it. The other Pokémon weren't even worth mentioning.
Gary could sense Pidgeotto's pride and arrogance. The bird was competitive, but Gary didn't mind.
"Let me introduce you to Pidgeotto, a new member of the team. You all must get along well," Gary said.
"Ka-mi!" Blastoise and the others nodded warmly at Pidgeotto.
"Bi…?" Pidgeotto stared at Blastoise and the others. Their kind expressions made it feel something was wrong. The feeling of camaraderie was unfamiliar, but it wasn't something Pidgeotto could quite ignore.
"Alright, let's start training." Gary said, pulling out various training tools for the Pokémon.
Since Pidgeotto had just joined the team, Gary didn't push it to train right away. Instead, he let it watch the others. Pidgeotto would need to train in the future, but for now, watching the others would give it a chance to mentally prepare.
