Pokémon: Trainer Paul

Chapter 68: Chapter 68: One More Time? Turtwig vs. Dewott

"Alright, come back."

Unexpectedly, the anticipated final attack from Dewott didn't land. Instead, Paul calmly recalled his Kabuto.

"Rest up. Let's battle again later."

After calling Kabuto back, Paul glanced at Dewott who was sitting on the ground. He frowned slightly, tossing a Berry towards it.

He couldn't shake the feeling that this Dewott was capable of much more.

"Cha-Cha!"

Munching on the Berry, Dewott quickly grabbed a potion nearby and healed itself once more.

"Thanks for the berry and potion, but I'm not battling anymore."

Winter, Dewott's trainer mustered the courage to speak up, his voice tinged with concern as he looked at the injured Dewott.

"No problem."

Paul shrugged nonchalantly, turning to leave for another nearby battlefield.

"Chaaa!"

At that moment, Dewott let out a loud cry, its eyes burning with determination.

It wasn't done yet.

Paul stopped and turned back, silently observing Dewott and Winter.

One wanted to fight, but the other refused. Who would have the final say?

"Electabuzz, Turtwig." Paul's other Pokémon watched the standoff while munching on berries, intrigued by this rare clash of wills between a trainer and their Pokémon.

As for Kabuto, it had already sprawled on the ground, basking in the sun, utterly uninterested in the proceedings.

"Let's call it a day, Dewott. Come back."

Winter's voice was pleading as he held up a Poké Ball, ready to recall Dewott.

"Cha!"

Dewott dodged the beam of red light from the Poké Ball, ignoring its trainer's usual requests. It stood firm, its gaze serious and unyielding.

Disappointment flickered in its heart, and for a moment, it regretted not being as decisive as Snivy had been in choosing its path.

"If that's how it is, let's have one final battle."

Faced with Dewott's stubborn resolve, Winter relented.

"Cha-Cha!"

Dewott picked up its shells, stepping forward with unwavering determination. This time, it would give everything it had, no distractions.

Noticing the fire in Dewott's eyes, Paul returned to his position on the battlefield.

"Turtwig, get ready for battle."

"Twiig?"

Turtwig blinked in surprise, realizing it was being called instead of Kabuto. It quickly hopped into position, facing Dewott with a focused expression.

Kabuto, realizing it was off the hook, flipped onto its back and resumed sunbathing.

"Dewott, use Razor Shell!"

Winter issued the first command.

But Dewott didn't move.

"Chaaa!"

It stood still, gripping its shells tightly and taking a deep breath. Using Focus Energy, it gathered its strength and cast aside all distractions.

When it opened its eyes, its presence was entirely different—sharp and intense.

"Twig!"

Turtwig, having secretly used Growth to boost its stats, became even more alert, ready to counter.

Winter, snapping out of his momentary daze, quickly shouted. "Dewott, Water Gun!"

"Cha-Cha!"

This time, Dewott responded, unleashing a powerful jet of water from its mouth. But this wasn't just a Water Gun—it was Hydro Pump!

Paul's expression didn't change as he calmly ordered. "Dodge it!"

Turtwig nimbly avoided the attack, which would have been too strong to simply endure. It retaliated with Razor Leaf, unleashing a flurry of sharp leaves that blocked all of Dewott's escape routes.

"Jump to dodge!"

Winter's instinctive command seemed logical—jumping would allow Dewott to escape the incoming Razor Leaf.

However, Dewott noticed the faint glow around Turtwig's head and chose a different course of action.

With a powerful leap, it used Aqua Jet to propel itself skyward, narrowly escaping the Razor Leaf barrage.

"Solar Beam!"

The words came calmly from Paul as Turtwig having been absorbing sunlight, fired a concentrated yellow beam directly at Dewott.

Winter's face fell. He realized that if Dewott had followed his initial command to jump, it would have been an easy target for Solar Beam.

Instead, Dewott deftly maneuvered in mid-air, circling around the beam using Aqua Jet, closing the distance to Turtwig.

It canceled Aqua Jet at the last moment, crossing its glowing Razor Shell blades in a high-speed descent.

"Use Tackle!"

Turtwig, undaunted by the oncoming attack, charged forward with all its might.

A loud crash echoed through the battlefield as the two collided mid-air, locked in a fierce struggle.

"Chaaa!"

Despite its efforts, Dewott was ultimately overpowered by Turtwig's enhanced strength, boosted by its repeated Growth.

Landing back on the ground, Dewott spun gracefully, performing a Sword Dance to increase its power attack even further.

"Sunny Day!"

Paul's calm command saw Turtwig summon a glowing orb that burst into the sky, intensifying the sunlight across the battlefield.

The harsh sunlight immediately weakened Dewott's water-type attacks, but it didn't falter. With its Razor Shells glowing green, it charged at Turtwig, determined to use Fury Cutter.

Turtwig, unbothered, continued to use Growth instinctively, awaiting the perfect moment to strike.

"Sand Tomb!"

The ground beneath Dewott gave way, pulling it into a swirling vortex of sand.

Caught off guard, Dewott found itself trapped. But it wasn't out yet, it activated Aqua Jet, propelling itself out of the vortex.

"Solar Beam!"

As Dewott emerged, Turtwig unleashed another Solar Beam.

Dewott didn't retreat. Using Aqua Jet, it launched itself straight toward the beam, slashing at it with Night Slash.
