Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Biohazard?
After some analysis, Lucius couldn't help but curse inwardly. Damn this system—no manual, no instructions—I have to figure everything out on my own!
Just as this thought surfaced, a notification appeared in his consciousness:
[The host's evolution into the Tyrant Virus will unlock partial information access.]
( ̄ー ̄)
Tyrant Virus?
Lucius felt a pang of frustration. Of course, it had to be this.
No wonder the Progenitor Virus looked so familiar when he first saw it—it was none other than the precursor to all those insane bio-weapons from Resident Evil.
The so-called Tyrant Virus was none other than the infamous T-Virus, the biological nightmare responsible for turning people into zombies and nearly wiping out human civilization.
So… evolving into the Tyrant Virus—could this be my next objective?
Before he could think further, Lucius noticed that as his assimilation into this boy's body progressed, he was beginning to share the host's vision and some of his memories.
"Charmander, stand up! You can do this!" The boy tried to rally his Pokémon with Coaching.
Unfortunately, his partner had just taken a direct hit from a Rollout attack by a Geodude. Its face was covered in blood, its eyes barely able to stay open—it was obvious that it had sustained severe injuries.
Hearing its trainer's call, Charmander whimpered softly, but its trembling body could hardly get back up.
Damn. Back in his previous life, when he played Pokémon games, he never gave this much thought. If a Pokémon fainted, it would just return to its Poké Ball—worst case, a quick trip to the Pokémon Center and everything would be fine in seconds. Easy, convenient.
But now, seeing a real Pokémon battle unfold before his eyes—it was an entirely different feeling.
Brutal, yet exhilarating.
It was like underground dog fights or illegal street brawls from his past life—bloodied faces, broken bodies, people beating each other to the brink of death.
Violent? Yes. But it awakened something primal in human nature—the thirst for battle, the rush of adrenaline.
And Pokémon battles? They were even more intense and captivating. After all, Pokémon wielded extraordinary powers, and the clash of Water and Fire was no mere metaphor—it was real.
"Charmander, are you okay?" The boy, Lucius' host, rushed to his fallen partner, anxiously checking its injuries.
"Charmander is unable to battle. The winner is Mark!" A middle-aged man, likely a referee or official, stepped forward and made the announcement. He then proceeded to record the victory in the winner's Pokédex.
Lucius could feel a pang of pain in the boy's heart.
From the fragments of memory he had accessed, this wasn't just any battle—there was money on the line. Pokémon matches like these involved wagers, with the judge transferring the prize money to the winner through the personal Pokédex's built-in transaction system.
Fortunately, since the Pokémon League had strict betting limits for students, the amount at stake wasn't too high.
"Hmph, Kuran, do you admit defeat?" Mark sneered as he looked down at his opponent. "I heard you were a top student at the Cerulean City Second Pokémon Academy, but I beat you with just one Pokémon. Seems like your school isn't as impressive as people say."
Hearing this taunt, Kuran's face turned red with shame.
Cerulean City had over a dozen Pokémon academies, with the First and Second Pokémon Academies being the most prestigious. Only elite students were admitted, and attending one was a badge of honor.
Being publicly humiliated like this was a disgrace.
But now wasn't the time to argue. Shooting a glare at Mark, Kuran swiftly recalled Charmander into its Poké Ball and sprinted toward the Pokémon Center.
"At least he's fast at running away," Mark muttered as he watched him leave.
The battle had taken place in a park right next to the Pokémon Center—convenient for immediate medical treatment.
It took Kuran less than three minutes to rush inside.
Unlike small-town clinics, Cerulean City's Pokémon Center was a massive, multi-story hospital complex. It had dedicated departments for burns, frostbite, trauma, psychological care, and more—each specializing in different types of Pokémon injuries.
As Kuran handed over Charmander and another previously defeated Pokémon for treatment, Lucius received a new system notification.
[The host has achieved 100% assimilation with the host. Evolution status updated.]
[Congratulations! Mission 'Complete Assimilation of a Life Form' accomplished. Reward: +10% Vitality to the host.]
Lucius glanced at his Status Panel:

As if sensing Lucius' frustration, the system promptly provided an option:
"Would you like to filter out irrelevant skills?"
Of course!
"Irrelevant skills have been removed."
Skills: Coaching, Motivational Speech, Fire-Type Pokémon Food Preparation
Hmm… so this new host panel…
Lucius suddenly realized something—he now had complete control over Kuran's genetic blueprint.
The stats, typing, abilities—it was all structured like a Pokémon's data sheet.
Now I get it.
Previously, he had only considered humans as potential hosts. But in reality, his parasite could infect Pokémon too.
Just like in Resident Evil, where the virus didn't just infect humans but also crows, dogs, insects—even plants.
And later in the series? The virus mutated into terrifying flying dragon-like creatures.
Haha, I see it now.
The virus evolves by absorbing genetic data. While humans shared similar genomes with slight variations, Pokémon were entirely different.
Hundreds of species. Over a dozen typings. Hundreds of unique abilities.
Their genetic diversity was the perfect fuel for virus evolution.
Especially when looking at stats like Sp. Attack, Sp. Defense, and Skills—they were clearly meant for Pokémon, not humans.
This is the real purpose of the system!
Good!
Lucius had finally found his path forward.
The next step? Infect Pokémon.
Steal their genetic data.
And evolve.
But which Pokémon should he target first?
Kuran was now inside the Pokémon Center—surrounded by countless sick and injured Pokémon.
For Lucius, this was the perfect hunting ground.
And there—he found his first prey.
