Chapter 74: Chapter 74 Two silver feathers
Chapter 74 Two silver feathers
[Pokémon: Gyarados ♂]
[Type: Water, Flying]
[Ability: Intimidate]
[Level: LV25]
[Moves: Crunch, Twister, Ice Fang, Waterfall, Whirlpool, Brine...]
[Held Item: Mystic Water]
After evolving, Gyarados reached level 25.
The evolution of Magikarp significantly increased the average size of Asahi's Pokémon team.
Shelgon looked enviously at the newly evolved Gyarados before refocusing on absorbing energy from the Dragon Crystal.
Meanwhile, Asahi began helping Gyarados get accustomed to its new form.
"Show me all the moves you know," Asahi instructed.
Even though he had already checked Gyarados's move set on the system panel, it was still better to have it demonstrate the moves in real battle.
Gardevoir stood by as an assistant for the test.
"Roar—!"
Gyarados opened its massive jaws and chomped down on a rock with a loud crack, shattering it into pieces.
"Crunch, huh? That bite force is impressive."
Asahi noted the results on his tablet and examined Gyarados's teeth, which remained pristine despite crushing the rock.
Being able to bite through stone without damaging its teeth meant that this move would be highly effective against Rock-type Pokémon.
Next, ice-type energy gathered around Gyarados's fangs as it bit down on another rock. This time, the struck area was instantly frozen solid.
Asahi measured the temperature with an infrared thermometer and recorded the data.
Then, Gyarados spewed out a powerful stream of water, forming a swirling vortex that covered a dozen meters of the sandy shore.
"Whirlpool..."
The move had a wide range and decent power, but—
Eevee stood frozen in shock, watching as the water obliterated the sandcastle it had painstakingly built.
"Vee—!"
Realizing what had happened, Eevee turned furiously toward Gyarados.
It had worked so hard on that sandcastle! It wasn't even halfway done, and it hadn't had the chance to show it off to Asahi before it got washed away…
The gaze of the Eevee King.
Under Eevee's intense glare, Gyarados felt immense pressure.
Faced with the choice between getting beaten up and apologizing, Gyarados wisely chose the latter.
The massive Gyarados bowing its head in apology to an Eevee that was barely the size of its tail tip was quite a comical sight.
Eevee, seeing Gyarados apologize, was no longer angry but still looked a little aggrieved.
"Don't be sad. I'll help you rebuild it later." Asahi patted Eevee's head comfortingly.
The testing was mostly complete. Although a few moves remained untested, the ones already examined showed a clear increase in power.
Asahi wasn't sure whether this was due to Gyarados's inherent individual strength or the special energy cubes he had fed it before.
Most likely, it was the latter. When Gyarados was still a Magikarp, aside from being unusually intelligent for a fish, it didn't display any particularly outstanding traits.
Asahi signaled to Gyarados that it could move around freely.
Just as Asahi, Gardevoir, and Mudkip were helping Eevee rebuild its sandcastle, Green returned from surfing with Dragonair.
Green looked thrilled.
"Asahi, I found a treasure!" Green waved excitedly.
"Hmm?"
Asahi looked over to see Green, still dripping wet, holding up a silver feather that shimmered in the sunlight.
"Isn't that just your Silver Feather?" Asahi asked, puzzled. "Wait... don't tell me—"
"You guessed it right!"
Green pulled out another Silver Feather. The two feathers gleamed in unison, radiating a faint silver-white glow.
"?"
Wasn't Lugia's Silver Feather supposed to be a rare and valuable item?
Asahi stared at the two nearly identical feathers in Green's hands, deep in thought.
"Could it be that Lugia is shedding feathers lately?"
...
Of course not. Legendary Pokémon didn't have "shedding seasons." Every Silver Feather in existence had been deliberately given away by Lugia.
According to Green, she and Dragonair had been surfing when the feather in her possession began glowing.
Following its guidance, she and Dragonair dove underwater, where they discovered an ancient ruin. That's where she found the second Silver Feather.
"An underwater ruin..."
The Pokémon world was filled with ancient ruins, most of which were remnants of prehistoric civilizations. New discoveries were made regularly.
As the Guardian of the Seas, it wasn't surprising for Lugia to have a dedicated ruin beneath the coastal city of Lampurci.
"What else did you find?" Asahi asked.
"There were some strange symbols and a few murals," Green recalled. "I only explored part of it before I had to surface due to a lack of oxygen."
"Strange symbols… probably ancient writing. But whether it's just text or Unown script remains to be seen."
If it was merely text, it wouldn't be a big deal. But if Unown were involved, waking them up could lead to unpredictable consequences for Green as an 'intruder.'
"As for the murals, they likely depict Lugia's history."
"Either way, this is a major discovery!" Asahi concluded.
It was no secret that ancient civilizations revered Legendary Pokémon. A ruin housing a Silver Feather was undoubtedly linked to Lugia.
After some thought, Asahi contacted two researchers he was familiar with—Professor Oak and Professor Sakuragi—to share the news.
Professor Oak immediately expressed his intent to come over.
Professor Sakuragi was even more excited since his research focused on meteorology. As the Guardian of the Seas, Lugia influenced ocean currents across the Pokémon world. Learning more about Lugia could significantly benefit his studies.
"Let me borrow a Flying Pokémon—I'll be there soon!"
He hung up in a hurry.
Only an hour later—
A loud cry echoed through the sky as a Dragonite descended with a powerful gust, once again toppling Eevee's sandcastle.
"Vee..."
Eevee stared at the ruined sandcastle, feeling like its whole world had turned gray.
Professor Oak dismounted from Dragonite.
Despite being a grandfather, he was still remarkably agile.
