Portal To Hell

Chapter 7: Same smile

A few moments later, Nagisa walked out of the room, his eyes sparkling with joy, unable to even see in front of him.

He wanted to jump and shout at the top of his lungs in excitement — he had been accepted for the job! Finally, fate had smiled upon him and given him what he had wished for after all the hardships he had endured and the challenges he had overcome in his life.

His mind spun in circles, over and over, thinking about how he would prepare for his first day.

He desperately wanted to be perfect tomorrow, especially knowing he would meet that beautiful woman again.

The thought alone was enough to make adrenaline rush through his veins.

That night, Nagisa couldn't sleep from overthinking everything that had happened that day, and what he planned to do tomorrow.

He even hung up his clothes, packed all his things, and made sure he wouldn't be late… like a child eagerly anticipating his first day at school.

The next morning, Nagisa woke up even before his alarm went off; he hadn't closed his eyes the entire night due to the excitement of what this day might bring.

He jumped out of bed quickly and began preparing himself carefully, having learned his lesson well from the previous day's mistakes.

He descended the stairs quietly and cautiously, avoiding his dog "Rocky's" toys scattered across the floor.

In the kitchen downstairs, his mother was preparing breakfast while humming a soft tune, her voice echoing through the space. She was completely immersed in her own world, as if she were playing a melody only she could hear.

Nagisa grinned mischievously and tiptoed toward her. As soon as he stood behind her, he shouted enthusiastically,

"Good morning, Mom!"

His mother's back arched in fright, her entire body tensing; her heart leapt out of her chest from the sudden burst of noise that shattered the peaceful moment she was enjoying.

She frowned in irritation, turned to face him, and let out an exasperated sigh.

As for him, he laughed merrily, clearly enjoying his mother's shock.

"You little rascal!"

His mother said angrily, but behind that sharp tone, there was a slight sense of amusement at her son's mischievous behavior.

She grabbed the nearest spoon and raised it toward him, though she had no intention of actually hitting him with it.

Nagisa let out a soft chuckle, "Hehe," and quickly ran away, snatching a sandwich off the table before dashing out the door.

His mother sighed as she watched him flee through the door, then returned the spoon to its place, a nostalgic smile forming on her lips.

She looked at the black-and-white photo of her late husband, the one that meant the world to her. Her eyes sparkled with longing, and her features softened with a glimmer of memories.

"I told you… Nagisa is so much like you, even in the way he jokes."

She murmured quietly, speaking to the picture as if her husband were standing in front of her, listening and smiling back at her.

In that moment, memories from the past crept into her mind, vividly painting the image of her husband sneaking up behind her every morning, embracing her and whispering in her ear.

"I'll miss you at work, sai."

She placed a hand on her cheek, a deep longing in her eyes… longing for a beautiful past that could never return, but still lived on in her heart
