Possessive CEO: The Divorce That Never Was

Chapter 19: Chapter 19: She Hasn't Come Back Yet?

At this moment, Jiang Zhe happened to be in the pantry and was taken aback by what he heard. He and Cheng Yuan had always believed that Rong Ci wouldn't truly leave the company. They were convinced she would find a way to stay. When Xu Xuena, who took over her work, came to the office yesterday, they thought Rong Ci might take action. After all, Xu Xuena was outstandingly beautiful. How could Rong Ci possibly feel at ease leaving such a woman around Feng Tingshen? But these past two days, not only did Rong Ci accept Xu Xuena, but she also got along well with her, and now she was even willing to teach Xu Xuena how to brew coffee the way she likes it?

What was going on here?

Jiang Zhe's thoughts on this matter were unknown to Rong Ci. She focused on completing her tasks and declined Xu Xuena's invitation for dinner, planning to go home for a meal and continue researching AI-related content.

As soon as she left the company, her phone rang—it was Feng Jingxin calling. "Mom, are you done?"

Rong Ci got into the car and asked, "What's up?"

"I want to eat crispy pork and water chestnut lean meat soup. Can you come back and make it for me?"

Rong Ci paused. Since she and Feng Tingshen hadn't officially divorced and he hadn't asked her to move out, she believed he wouldn't mind if she went back to cook dinner for her daughter. However, she was tired and had her own plans. Although Feng Jingxin was her responsibility, she also had her own life and wouldn't sacrifice her time unconditionally anymore.

She replied, "Mom has something today, maybe next time."

Previously, Rong Ci always prioritized Feng Tingshen and Feng Jingxin, rarely refusing their requests. Hearing her refusal twice today, even though Feng Jingxin didn't notice, being used to being Rong Ci's top priority, it was rare for her to be refused like this. Feeling wronged, she said, "Why do you always have so many things to do recently, Mom? I don't care, I just want to eat crispy pork and water chestnut soup!"

"Xin Xin..."

Feeling a headache, Feng Jingxin hung up angrily. Sitting in the car, Rong Ci's eyes welled up with tears. After a long silence, she drove away.

Back home, she ate a simple noodle dish and opened her computer when Yu Moxun called, inviting her to an upcoming banquet and introducing her to some people. "Sure," she agreed.

Yu Moxun then asked, "When can you finish your handover?"

"Should be within a few days."

"That's good."

Meanwhile, Feng Jingxin waited for Rong Ci to come back after hanging up, thinking she would rush home immediately. But after waiting for over an hour, almost reaching eight o'clock, Rong Ci still hadn't returned. The butler suggested she eat something first, but Feng Jingxin refused stubbornly. Seeing no sign of Rong Ci, she cried out, "I want to eat Mom's cooking!"

The butler, assuming Rong Ci had important matters, called Feng Tingshen. After a while, Feng Tingshen answered the call.

"What's up?"

The butler explained everything. Feng Tingshen said, "Pass the phone to her."

Feng Jingxin took the phone, sobbing, "Dad..."

"Eat first."

Wiping her tears, Feng Jingxin remained silent. Feng Tingshen added calmly, "We'll go out this weekend, you choose the place."

Sniffling, she asked, "Really?"

"Mm, eat first."

"Have you eaten, Dad?"

"At a business dinner."

"Oh..."

"Go eat."

"Okay..."

Though pouting, Feng Jingxin felt better and went downstairs to eat.

After hanging up, Feng Tingshen returned to the private room where someone joked about his frequent calls. Feng Tingshen sipped his wine and said, "My daughter was throwing a tantrum refusing to eat, so I calmed her down."

Everyone reacted differently. There had been rumors about Feng Tingshen being married for years, but no one knew who Madam Feng was. Others claimed he wasn't married at all. Hearing him mention having a daughter surprised many, though they dared not ask further questions.

...

After dinner, Feng Jingxin kept waiting for Rong Ci. By nine o'clock, after her bath, Rong Ci still hadn't returned. At ten, hearing a car outside, she ran downstairs excitedly, "Mom—"

Seeing Feng Tingshen instead, her cheerful voice stopped abruptly. "Dad?"

Handing his coat to the butler, Feng Tingshen noticed her disappointment, "What's wrong?"

"I thought Mom was back..."

He didn't feel jealous and asked, "She hasn't come back yet?"

"Yeah..."

Thinking she must be busy, he reassured her, "She promised to take you to school tomorrow. Go to bed early, and you'll see her in the morning."

Hearing this, Feng Jingxin brightened up, "Okay."

Upstairs, Feng Tingshen went to the study to handle some affairs. By the time he finished, it was nearly midnight. He assumed Rong Ci had returned during his busyness but found she hadn't.

It seemed something significant had happened in the Rong family.

The next day, to take Feng Jingxin to school, Rong Ci woke up early, ate something, and drove off. Entering the familiar villa area, she felt a fleeting sense of unfamiliarity despite living there for seven years. Everything looked the same, yet she felt distant.

The butler greeted her warmly. To his address, Rong Ci hesitated but didn't correct him, asking about Feng Jingxin.

"Not awake yet."

Considering the time, Feng Jingxin needed to wake up soon for breakfast. Without intending to go upstairs, she let Liu Cen wake her up.

"Have you eaten breakfast?" the butler asked. "Breakfast is ready..."

Rong Ci smiled faintly, shaking her head, "No need, I've already eaten."

"Alright..."

Just then, Feng Tingshen came downstairs. Rong Ci nodded slightly at him without speaking. As Feng Jingxin rushed down and hugged her, Rong Ci comforted her, suggesting she eat quickly.

"Yes!"

Indeed, waking up to see her mom made her happy. Snuggling into Rong Ci, she felt satisfied, pulling her to sit together for breakfast.

"Mom has already eaten, you go ahead."

"Can we talk then?"

While they talked, Feng Tingshen sat quietly at the dining table. Unable to resist her daughter, Rong Ci joined them, sitting opposite Feng Tingshen. Ignoring him, she listened attentively to Feng Jingxin talking about her day at school.

Feng Tingshen noticed the change in her attitude towards him, frowning slightly as he remembered her behavior during their last visit to the old house.
