Chapter 9: Chapter 8
With terrified eyes, I watch the girls from the older class attack me in the bathroom. They didn't allow anyone inside, and I stuck my back to the wall, feeling myself start to get weak with fear. My breathing becomes rapid and uneven as the two 18-year-olds approach me like lurking tigers. Their faces, please, let me know that I'm unlikely to get out of here alive.
- What do you want from me? What do you want from me? - I ask in a whisper.
- Does Felix have a taste for such fearful girls? I thought he rather preferred grandmothers with a claw. - The blonde pulls a strand of my hair behind my ear, and I close my eyelids as I think back to the past. I begin to feel nauseous as I see before my eyes the image of the beleaguered man who did the same thing to me. - A pretty, innocent 16-year-old girl picked up the most desirable boy in school. Tell me, how did you do it when he hadn't paid attention to anyone before?
If she doesn't stop touching my face, I will vomit shortly. I can already feel the cold sweat pouring over me.
- We met accidentally," I reply. My knees bend under me and I don't have the strength to stand up straight. - I beg you to let me go.
I must look very pale, because these girls are looking at me with strange eyes.
- Sarah, leave her alone. She is about to fall," speaks up the gray-haired woman, who is standing more behind. - We don't need problems.
- I don't give a shit. I'm not letting her go until she tells me everything.
- You are uglier than the poop I just flushed, that's why no guy will look at you. - With half-conscious eyes, I look at Hannah, who is leaving one of the booths. My classmate, who has short hair and a sharp temper, is just standing up for me. - Although... looking at you longer, my pooch looked like a masterpiece compared to your features. You're the one I'd rather flush.
The girls who tease me look disgusted by Hannah's words.
- Who are you? Where did you come from?
- Well, I don't know... I probably fell off the moon right on the restroom. - The 16-year-old snorts under her breath. - What a stupid question. I came to the bathroom to get settled. What are toilets for? Explain to me.
With unwashed hands, she touches the hair of the group leader, who moves away disgusted by her behavior.
- Where with those dirty paws, you moron!
Hannah smiles broadly.
- I should be the one to ask you the question: what are you doing here? Have you watched too many movies about mean girls?
The leader rubs her brow, smiling nervously.
- Why the hell are you meddling? It doesn't concern you. - She walks closer to Hannah, piercing her with his eyes. - Are you looking for trouble?
I was sitting against the wall, half-consciously watching my friend slide her unwashed hand up the blonde's nose.
- Do you smell? That's what you smell like. Shitty.
An 18-year-old girl jumps at the younger girl, but is pulled away in time by her friends when they notice that Hannah looks pleased with herself.
- Let it go. People have been gossiping for a long time that she's the headmistress' daughter. You'll be screwed if you do anything to her.
Uttering blasphemous words towards me and Hannah, they leave the bathroom. A classmate washes her hands, glancing at me out of the corner of her eye.
- I don't think it's okay with you, do you Selena? - turns to me, and I don't even have the strength to answer her, because I feel that in a moment I will completely drift away. - A moment ago I played your princess on a white horse. Now I should take you on this horse to the school nurse? - She shakes her hands off the water, still not taking her eyes off me. - Just let me find that horse to carry you.
I'm already lying on that floor, weak-eyed, looking somewhere to one point, when I hear Hannah open the door and turn to a boy passing by there:
- Come here, white horse. - She drags him to the bathroom by force, hitting his head when he intends to protest. - Get that girl on your back, because she has fainted. We have to help her.
These are the last words I hear before I completely lose consciousness.
*
When I open my eyes, the first sight I see is the face of my best friend. Only after a moment do I realize that I am in the nurse's office. The blonde sits in a chair, embracing my hand. We are hidden behind a white curtain that separates the beds and allows some privacy.
- Selena, frog, are you alive? - asks in a worried voice, looking at me with caring eyes. - I thought I was going to die when Hannah told me what happened. Let me just catch those bitches, and I swear I'll break their arms and legs. Fortunately, our insufferable but sexy-minded friend was in the bathroom.
I raise my eyebrows, wondering if Eve just complimented Hannah.
- I'm fine. I just panicked and got weak. I'm not going to die," I reply, forcing a slight smile.
- You don't, but the girls who brought you to this state do. - I open my eyes wider when I hear Felix's voice. The 18-year-old, who appears in front of the bed, looks at me with worried eyes. He is accompanied by Mike, who is rubbing his hands together as if he is warming up before a fight.
I see that Eve looks delighted with my crush's visit, yet she has to add a few words of her own:
- And do you realize, sexy team captain, that it was your fault they attacked Selene?
Felix nods, not taking his eyes off me.
- I know, that's why I'm going to deal with it. They will never dare to torment Selena again. I won't allow it.
Mike puffed out his lips, looking delighted by his friend's words. I think there was an altercation between them during the party, but apparently everything is fine now.
- I don't want you to get involved in this, Felix," I announce in a low voice. - I can handle the problem myself.
- And how would you like to do it, frog? - Eve snorts under her breath. - You were so scared that you fainted. You rather need our help.
I can feel Felix's intense gaze on me. I am one hundred percent sure that he is wondering why I am so weak, when in elementary school I was able to stand up for him without being afraid of older boys.
No one has any idea that a few months later something terrible happened that caused me trauma. I can no longer fight. I automatically become weak, my legs buckle under me, and the whole world spins before my eyes.
This is an issue I have been fighting for many years.
- Blonde, lead us to the friend who helped Selena. We need to find out which girls they were so that we can do something about them. - Mike turns to Eve, who points her fingers in agreement. - Since Selena won't tell us, we'll find out another way.
- Please, give yourselves a break. Don't create a problem out of it. They didn't do anything to me.
- But it's enough that they had the nerve to attack you in the bathroom! - Felix raises his voice, which causes a feeling of fear in me. I look at him with wide-open eyes, and then he softens. - I'm sorry. I just can't let it happen again. Next time they might hurt you.
Eve looks at me for a long moment, then strokes my head and nods to the guys, telling them to follow. Mike pokes his friend in the shoulder while he remains motionless.
- Get some rest, Selena. I'll be back to you soon," Felix announces, sending me a slight smile. - And don't worry. I won't act impulsively. I will handle this with my head.
- You don't have to come back here. - I see the surprise on his face, so I quickly add. - I'm feeling better now, so I'll be back for class in an hour.
The 18-year-old nods, then leaves the nurse's office, following my friend and Mike. I shouldn't be worried, and yet I have a bad feeling that Felix might become impulsive.
I got excessively drunk during the party, yet I remember what happened when Mike wanted to keep me safe. Felix snatched me out of his embrace by acting too impulsively towards his best friend, so how can he react when he meets the girls who attacked me in the bathroom?
*
Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems to me that everyone is looking at me strangely as I walk down the corridor on my next break, let out of the office with the nurse's permission. I have a strange feeling that something happened an hour ago, and only I don't know about it.
In front of the classroom I catch up with Hannah, whom I grab by the forearm. The peer with short hair simply looks at me, saying nothing. She waits for me to be the one to speak to her first.
- Thank you for helping me.
A smile appears on her face.
- At least you can say thank you. Great. Just next time, doesn't faint in my company. You are a troublemaker. - She pats me on the shoulder, and then I let go of her hand.
- Did you tell Eve and the guys which girls attacked me?
- Of course, because she was accompanied by her basketball teammates. I like them because they play well, and I help people I respect. To your friend I certainly wouldn't reveal that," she announced.
- Do you happen to know what happened at the previous break? It seems to me that everyone is looking at me strangely.
Hannah looks around, and a smile once again appears on her face. She undoubtedly knows something.
- This is a question you should ask your boyfriend.
She walks away, and I wrinkle my eyebrows, confusedly looking at the people who whisper at the sight of me.
What happened? Why did Hannah call Felix my boyfriend? After all, we are not officially in a relationship....
- Selena!!! - Wide-eyed, I look at my best friend, who is yelling at me from the end of the corridor, running towards me like crazy. - Selena, great news!
- You scare me," I say as she stops in front of me, unable to catch her breath. - What happened? Tell me everything you know.
Holding her hands on my shoulders, the blonde is still trying to catch her breath. A happy smile eventually appears on her face before she declares the news to me:
- You have officially become a woman of the Little Prince. Wish you could have seen it. - Her laughter makes me more and more concerned. She looks like a madman. - No one dares to touch you again.
- Get to the specifics, because I don't understand any of this. What happened, Eve?
- Felix announced to everyone through the school radio station that you are his woman and next time he will kill anyone who touches you. Now he sits with the principal on the rug.
I think I'm getting weak again.
- What did he do? - I ask in a weak voice, regretting that there are no speakers in the part where the doctor's office is located.
- Selena, damn it, your crush has declared to the whole school that you are his girlfriend, and that means that as of today, you have become as popular as he is! I doubt that anyone would dare attack you now.
I should be happy because my dream has come true, but why did he follow a passage from my novel again? Does this boy really want to fulfill all my fantasies?
He's crazy, and I just officially became his girlfriend without having a clue.
My life is undoubtedly fan fiction. Wouldn't every girl like to taste it? What did I do to deserve it? I have no idea, but one thing is for sure: I'm terrified by the looks on the faces of all those students who are whispering in my face at this very moment.
For the next few days, I will be numbed one when it comes to school gossip.
