Chapter 5: The deal: one
"I'm impressed, I have to be honest. You're either very brave or very stupid, so which is it?", He asked irritated, his face dark, jaw tightened.
To be honest, I was scared he was going to race towards me and strangle me. I had to buy time, think of a way out. He was blocking my only route of escape.
"Maybe I'm both", I shrugged still clutching the jewelry, stepping back again. I was on alert, watching his every move so he wouldn't spring up any suprise or sudden move on me, and I knew he was doing the same, watching me with hawk eyes.
He chuckle, a low, humorless sound.
"Maybe you are. But that's not going to save you, you're in trouble, a problem that just got a whole lot worse".
He takes another step closer, his voice dropping to a menacing whisper. "You've stolen something worth a lot more than just its monetary value".
"This?"
I played dumb looking at the prized possession, as if not realizing what he was talking about.
"What if I say pretty please?". I tilted my head to the side, trying to look as Innocent as possible.
He raise an eyebrow, a small, cold smile playing on his lips.
"Save it", his voice dripped with disdain. "You think a simple 'please', is going to get you out of this?".
He takes another step closer, his eyes locked on mine. "You're going to have to do a lot better than". His gaze flicking to the safe behind me.
"Who sent you?, How did you breach my security?", He asked in an intimidating firm voice that made the hair on my neck and arms stand.
"That's none of your concern, really", I said nonchalantly, still trying to figure out what to do. My heart racing.
"Oh, really now?. Because i think it's very much my business. You're in my house, standing in my bedroom, holding something prized that belongs to me. I would say that makes it very much my business". His voice was firm but controlled. "Don't bother trying to find an escape route, My security team are already on their way here. The whole house is under lock down, You're not going anywhere. So,i suggest you hand over what you've stolen from me and maybe, just maybe we can discuss alternatives to calling the police". He said coldly, stretching out his hand for me to hand it over.
"I don't think I want to do that, why will I want to do that?"
"You still think this is a game?, I don't play games and I don't joke around. You better start taking this seriously", his voice a menacing growl. "you don't know what you're playing at. You're playing with fire and you're going to get burnt".
he took another step towards me, loosing the tie around his neck.
For some reason that very simple act was appealing.
"Stop biting your lips", his gaze flicking to my lip, I didn't even know I was subconsciously bitting my lips. His voice was low and rough, making me burn red. He cleared his throat, snapping his eyes back at me.
This time. I bite my lips again, but on purpose, I don't know why Immensely enjoyed daring him.
I could see his face twist in irritation and something else, something dark that sent sweet thrills down the back of neck, even in my current situation.
"You don't listen, do you?. I'm not a man to be trifled with. I don't play games, and I don't tolerate teasing". He gaze drops to my lips, and for a moment, I forget about the stolen heirloom in my clutch.
"You're something else..".
He spoke, almost as though he was talking to himself.
He was standing too close, I kept moving back, as if avoiding being burnt, than caught.
"What makes you think I've lost completely?" I said, stalling.
surprised by my question, he laughed, a cold, calculated laugh.
"Really now?, you think you still have a chance?". He ask, his eyes glinting with amusement.
"You think, you've outsmarted me?", He takes a step closer, his voice dropping lower. "But that's were you're wrong" he smirked, wickedly. "I could have you arrested, yes", he paused dramatically, as though he was considering something else. "But that would be... messy. It would draw alot of attention to the fact that the heirloom was stolen in the first place".
I watched him quietly,as he continued talking.
"My reputation and my family's reputation is very important to me. And I would rather not have it comprised by the news that a single, unarmed thief was able to break into my home so easily, by pass my security and got her hands on one of my prized possessions". He takes a step closer, his voice dropping low.
I tried to back away again, but I felt my back hit the wall. He knew what he was doing all along. He had been cornering me, and I was too distracted with our buttheading conversation I didn't notice.
Now he was hovering over me. I've been caught. I was completely blocked, my heart racing,my breathing ragged, I found it hard to calm my breathing. He smiled, enjoying my misfortune.
He continued talking, knowing fully well he had the upper hand and I had no chance at all.
"I'm willing to make you a deal. Hand over the diamond, and I'll not only let you go free, but i'll also.... reward you, if you cooperate". His eyes locked mine.
"You see, I think you're a clever woman, daring too. And I believe you could be useful to me, we could help each other out".
I blinked at him, confused.
"A deal?", I scoffed. "For all I know, it might just be a trap, what makes you think I'll be interested in a deal?".
He smiled, a small enigmatic smile and shrugged. A small, calculated movement.
"Oh well, we won't know would we?,I guess you just have to trust me".
I scoffed. No way.
