Chapter 131: Entering the Dimension of Time, Training like Crazy
Sam woke up early the next morning, eyes staring blankly at the ceiling as he slowly sat up on the bed.
He let out a quiet sigh, his chest rising and falling as the memories of yesterday came flooding back to him like a wave he hadn't prepared for.
Without a doubt, it had been the most intense day in both of his lives.
First came the fight with Jevil, which alone would've been enough to exhaust him.
Then came the shadow [Forsaken Lord], a presence so terrifying it still made Sam's skin crawl when he thought about it.
And all of that had happened on the same day that his guild rose to the top of the rankings.
Then there was that strange new guild announcement.
He rolled his shoulders and stretched, trying to shake off the heaviness he felt.
At least the meeting wouldn't be until tomorrow.
That meant today was gonna be a break.
He had a full day with no looming mission, no ambush to prepare for, no deadly encounter to survive.
And yet, as he sat there in silence, Sam already knew he wasn't going to rest.
His mind wandered to the [Fifth Layer], wondering if it might be worth diving into it again.
It was a good way to earn experience, and more importantly, a good way to get closer to his next level.
But the moment his thoughts drifted to that shadowy [Forsaken Lord] again, his body stiffened.
Sam clenched his teeth and shook his head.
"Hell no," he muttered under his breath.
He wasn't going anywhere near that place for now.
Besides, there was something else he wanted to try, something he'd been waiting for the right moment to test out.
He pulled open his status screen with a thought, and his gaze zeroed in on one particular class skill.
[Dimension of Time].
It was the new Class Skill tied to his latest affinity, [Time].
This was what he had been thinking about since waking up.-
He reread the description carefully, word by word.
---
[Dimension of Time]
[Description: Time seems to move in your favor, allowing you to bend it to your will.]
[You are able to open up a portal to the "Dimension of Time", a place where time moves much slower than in the real world.]
[In the "Dimension of Time", one day in the real world equals a week inside.]
[In addition to that, there are no skill cooldowns in the "Dimension of Time", meaning that you will be able to train and try out new things however you like.]
---
Sam smirked as he finished reading.
"A week of training in one day," he whispered to himself, "Sounds perfect."
He already felt the need to push himself further.
Yesterday's battle had made it clear that he wasn't even close to the level he needed to be at, not if he wanted to survive what came next.
This skill was exactly what he needed.
With it, he could train seven times harder than anyone else.
Sam closed the menu and stood up straight.
He focused, feeling the time-based energy within him begin to stir.
"Dimension of Time," he said clearly.
Ding!
A white, glowing portal appeared in the center of his room.
It swirled with pale aura and shimmered like glass reflecting the sun.
It was just big enough for him to walk through, pulsing slightly as though it were waiting.
Sam didn't hesitate.
He gave the portal one last glance, then stepped forward and vanished into it.
The moment he entered, he felt himself being pulled, almost as if he were drifting through light.
Time bent around him, and his body seemed weightless.
Then—
Fwish! Boom!
He landed on solid ground.
As he looked around, he immediately realized where he was.
Everything around him was white.
There was no sky, no walls, no horizon.
Even the ground beneath his feet was invisible, but solid enough to stand on.
It was a blank void, a pure, empty space where time itself could be shaped.
Ding!
[Welcome to the "Dimension of Time"]
A small panel floated in front of him, then disappeared just as quickly.
"So this is it," Sam murmured, taking a few steps forward.
There was no sound, no wind, nothing except silence and white.
"This place..." Sam smiled faintly, "I could get used to it."
He tested something immediately.
Forsaken Clone!
Fwish!
The clone appeared before him in a flash of swirling colors.
Its body was constructed from the five affinities that made up Sam's soul, each one twisting like mist just beneath its skin.
It stood tall, its smile as wide and unsettling as ever.
The clone's crimson eyes locked with Sam's, and its grin deepened.
But then a thought struck him.
He looked around again, then asked out loud, "Wait, what about my actual body?"
Ding!
[Your physical body is transported to the "Dimension of Time", meaning that no one can harm you.]
Sam let out a relieved breath.
"Phew."
But then another panel appeared.
[Though do note that you can only open the "Dimension of Time" when alone in a room. No one else can be with you.]
Sam read it carefully and nodded.
So he couldn't open it mid-fight, and he definitely couldn't use it to run from a losing battle.
That was fine.
He wasn't planning to run from anything anyway. He never had, and he never would.
With a flick of his hand, he summoned the [Primordial Sword] from his [Spatial Inventory] and gripped it tightly.
He pointed it directly at the [Forsaken Clone].
"Let's train."
The clone's eyes burned brighter, and its entire body leaned forward, ready for the fight.
Then it lunged.
Fwish! Fwish! CLANG!
The two clashed, steel meeting steel, aura colliding with aura.
Their blows sent shockwaves across the white dimension, even though the space had no air or form.
Every strike from the clone pushed Sam back, and every counterattack Sam delivered pushed the clone away.
They didn't hold back.
Their [Eternal Barriers] cracked and shimmered under the pressure of the fight, and both of them used every skill at their disposal.
The [Time] affinity gave Sam more than just speed.
It sharpened everything, his senses, his strength, and the way his power flowed through his body.
After several minutes of brutal back and forth—
Crack! SLASH!
Sam's blade struck true, shattering the [Eternal Barrier] around the clone and then he immediately slashed at its body.
But before he could even feel triumphant—
Fwish!
The clone's barrier reformed instantly.
Sam blinked, then smirked.
"Right. No cooldowns in here."
That was a double-edged sword.
He could keep going endlessly, but so could the clone.
And though the cooldowns were gone, he still needed [Soul] to power his skills.
It meant there was a limit, just not one based on time.
Still, he'd proven something valuable.
He could beat the [Forsaken Clone].
It was strong and twisted. But he could win.
It seemed like Sam had something that made him slightly stronger than it.
He didn't know what, but it didn't matter.
"Again," Sam called out.
The clone didn't need to be told twice.
It rushed him again, and the spar resumed.
...
For the rest of the week inside that timeless space, Sam trained like a machine.
The first half of his time was spent focusing entirely on the [Primordial Sword Technique].
It was exhausting.
Fighting with a sword constantly, endlessly, with no rest, took its toll.
It was repetitive. But Sam didn't let up.
His determination kept him moving forward, and every hour he could feel his movements becoming sharper.
His technique was improving.
Not in the sense of the skill getting better, but him having better control of it.
In the second half of his time, he turned his attention to the rest of his powers.
Not his skills, but the abilities tied to them.
[Charged Crescent Slash], [Bullet of Oblivion], [Primordial Hellfire], [Affinities Shockwave], he trained all of them, one after the other, over and over again.
He focused on how each of them moved through his affinities.
He learned how to shorten the cast time.
He learned how to use them faster, more fluidly, with less energy wasted.
The spells began to feel more natural in his hands.
By the end of the seventh day, Sam stood at the center of the white dimension, word resting on his shoulder, clothes slightly torn, but his eyes sharper than ever.
He was stronger now.
