Chapter 213: The First Trial

<{Host! Welcome to your first Trial}>

"Big Brother, wake up!"

An urgent cry from an unknown young man entered Lucian's ears.

"Big Brother, wake up!"

This time, accompanied by the words, Lucian felt his shoulders being swayed.

Slowly, Lucian opened his eyes.

"Argh!" But before Lucian could get a proper glance at his surroundings, he shut his eyes in pain, feeling as if his forehead was repeatedly being pummeled by a brick.

Clutching his forehead, Lucian thrashed against what felt like solid ground beneath him.

"Big brother, just give up already. Is there a need for you to become that evil scum's disciple?" The voice rang out again.

"My Master is a hundred times better than that old fart. He would never seal my Mage Rank and order me to collect Phosphorus Glow Berries from Tianshan Mountain. You'll die if this continues any longer."

However, Lucian did not respond to the unknown young man. It was not as if he did not want to, but at the moment, he was preoccupied by an endless stream of information pouring into his mind.

Sometime later, Lucian abruptly opened his eyes and looked up at the bright sun in a daze.

"Big Brother, are you finally feeling better?" The young man breathed a sigh of relief but then became startled. "Big Brother, what's that look on your face?"

But once again, Lucian did not respond to him.

Just then, an arrogant voice came from afar, "Kai Sui, forget him. He's a lunatic just like the old fart he looks up to."

"You… don't say that about Big Brother." Kai Sui defended Lucian.

"Whatever, Master's calling us. Let's go"

Kai Sui hesitated for a moment, before steeling himself, "Sorry, Big Brother, but I have to go." After saying so, Kai Sui hurried after his junior brother.

Just like that, Lucian was left alone.

For a long time, he remained lying on the cold cobblestone floor, staring up at the sky as the warmth from the sun radiated down on him.

His thoughts were gradually becoming clearer.

He was not in Harmony City, neither was he in Arcadia.

According to the information that invaded his mind, he was in another world — a world known as Chaos Haven.

Five large continents made up this world — Northern Continent, Eastern Continent, Southern Continent, Western Continent, and Central Haven.

His name was still Lucian, but his appearance was completely different.

To get a better understanding of his new appearance, Lucian turned his head toward a nearby house. Reflected in the window, was a blurry, but unmistakable image of his new self — short, black hair, black eyes, sharp, sword-like eyebrows, and a tall, slender frame. His features were elegant, but also cold.

'What a disappointment.' Lucian was not ugly, by any means, but he could hardly be called handsome. Other than his eyebrows, there was nothing special about his appearance.

The information that seeped into his Soul, told him of his life. Lucian was currently in a place called Illusory Butterfly City, which was managed by the Illusory Butterfly Sect — one of the many factions in the Southern Continent of Chaos Haven. The Sect was not strong, but neither was it weak. It was average.

Lucian was born and raised in the Illusory Butterfly Sect, though he never knew his true parents. The Elders of the Sect, who had taken him in from birth, had always kept his origins a closely guarded secret.

The Elders treated him well… extremely well… In fact, almost too well. They showered him with endless affection, gifts, and unending support, never hesitating to clean up after the endless troubles he created. Even when the other Disciples whispered behind his back, labeling him as reckless or arrogant, the Elders defended him.

Over time, this favor had earned him a reputation among the other Disciples. They called him the 'Unofficial Successor'. Although the Sect Master had never formally declared it, everyone believed Lucian was destined to inherit the coveted position.

His potential was excellent, his Mage Rank was higher than most in his generation, and the majority of the Elders had already made their support of him clear from day one.

Lucian's road to the top was set in stone as if it were his destiny to become Sect Master of the Illusory Butterfly Sect, yet a month before his eighteenth birthday, everything changed.

In the Illusory Butterfly Sect, it was a tradition that Disciples could only obtain a Master on their eighteenth birthday. It had been that way since the Sect had been founded. Not wanting to go against tradition, the rule continued to today.

One day, Lucian decided to wander around the Illusory Butterfly City.

The Disciples guarding the Sect entrance thought nothing of it, knowing of his weird tendencies, they allowed him to leave, as long as he returned before the sun began its descent.

Of course, Lucian had agreed. There was no way he would not return. The Sect was his home.

And that was when it happened. While wandering the bustling streets of Illusory Butterfly City, Lucian encountered an old man with a humble stall in a corner of the city.

Curiosity had taken control over him, and he had decided to taste the stall owner's egg-fried rice.

Instantly, when the pearl-like rice grains wrapped in a layer of glistening golden egg liquid entered his mouth, his eyes lit up in shock.

It was not just the flavor, though it was extraordinary, it could not compare to the number-one restaurant in the city — Tang Tang Restaurant — it was the Mana that had surged into his Mana Veins, nourishing them and his body, which overwhelmed him.

As if Lucian had been hypnotized, he ordered another bowl of egg-fried rice, and before he knew it, a dozen empty bowls were stacked on the cobblestone street.

In that fleeting moment, everything Lucian had thought he wanted — everything he had worked towards and trained for as the destined successor of the Illusory Butterfly Sect — began fading from his priorities.
