Chapter 549 Strange situation
549 Strange situation
But, to be honest, even Matthew was surprised by this thing he had just done.
His power was still sealed, but he wanted to test one thing. It was just a matter of curiosity, but, the Path of Control being a universal path that was not tied to the Power System and, instead, bypassed it, was it possible to use it without power?
He didn't know why that had never occurred, but he wanted to try it, and his results were astonishingly satisfactory.
Not only could he use it, but he felt as if he had suddenly improved considerably. He had created two totally different forms of Control.
All this was his power, but he employed the Path of Control, a universal way. So its versatility was astounding; even so, he did not expect to be able to perform two different ways.
One to grab and the other to stop. But, in doing so with such versatility, his mind moved unconsciously to catch what was flying toward him. He didn't want to stop it; he tried to catch it.
He had used Control's 'catch' before to stop attacks. He remembered using it against the elder Heir of the Wagners to stop some of his attacks, so that wasn't unusual. Still, this consisted of completely filling a place with energy at just the right time so they would all be trapped there.
Anything that came after the energy wall was created would collide with it and couldn't be trapped, so it wasn't very versatile. Plus, creating an energy wall requires more than it should. He didn't want to use something like that against those guys; he just wanted to activate his Control path, without his own energy.
And that's where his mind did a stroke of genius. Instead of creating a wall, he was literally trapping anything that came near him, and he wasn't using his own energy to do it; he was using the surrounding energy!
'This is...' He knew. He had been researching it for months; it couldn't be anything else.
It was the attribute of a God Controller.
He immediately remembered what his father had told him in that 'dream' he had when he received his first ability.
'Once you understand the God Controller, you can control the outside through your power. Your body becomes a tool for Control to move...'
Naturally, he also remembered his past. The times he used that level of ability.
It all added up.
'Did I achieve the God Controller? This is what you mean by controlling the outside? But, clearly, I have not been able to complete the second part of the First Phase of Control...' Although his mind seemed to refuse that it was so, he wanted to test it.
The attacks from outside were still being grabbed with precision. Nothing was exploding anymore. At some point, that guy got tired and stopped launching attacks, waiting for the dust to disperse.
Matthew smiled at the devourer.
"Looks like you're out of tricks. Well, it's my turn." Immediately, the hand he had him in his grip tightened, and he rushed to slam him ferociously to the ground.
Matthew didn't have to do anything; with his mind, he just slammed him to the ground, then picked him up again and hit him repeatedly until he died.
After doing that, he looked back. 'Dust... If I'm not wrong, the God Controller will allow me to change this at my whim.' He thought.
He moved his other hand to where the other guy was on the other side of the dust and tried to troll the outside and change the situation in front of him.
The magics he had trapped were released as if something had thrown them and flew back to where they had come from. Subsequently, the surrounding dust seemed to be hit by something and began to disappear quickly. Then, a huge path free of trees, holes, and so on was created in that place.
At the same time, Matthew could see the devourer suddenly hovering in the air, floating and engulfed by magic.
When he thought of enjoying the moment, his body felt a deep pain, and he fell to his knees in an instant; his heart pounded fiercely, and his body seemed to ache for the impossible.
Blood swirled inside him and came fiercely out of his mouth. Everything he had managed to affect with his power suddenly returned to what it was before, not letting him enjoy the moment.
At this, he groaned, but seeing that the mage was dead, he sighed in relief and dropped a little to the ground.
'Although I have some control over that level, it seems my body won't withstand too big things like that.' He realized that his body was in trouble, for it was too weak.
He gradually began to feel numb from the pain; something strange about him. He had really exceeded his body's limit, which made his body and brain practically shut down all of a sudden, and he fell asleep in a deep sleep.
He had never fallen asleep as profoundly as he did this time, waking up more than 24 hours later.
His eyes and body were heavy. During all this time, he didn't even sound anything; he was disconnected. Still, he could feel that his body was not totally inactive. His power and the Path of Control he felt under his skin created a barrier of protection. If he remembered correctly, that was something he invented 10 million years ago as a mechanism in case he ever needed it when he fell totally asleep.
His senses slowly returned to his body. His mouth was dry; he needed water, but a strange sound entered his ears before he opened his eyes.
'Is something burning?' he thought.
Forcefully, he tried to open his eyes. He was looking a little blurry, but he could see that he was in the forest before, only in a place without so much destruction.
'Weird...'
He then tried to get up, but something strange came into his blurred vision. A campfire.
He didn't remember building one, but some dry sticks were burning in the middle of this icy world, where snow was constantly falling, something curious and very strange.
Naturally, he knew something wasn't right, so he forced himself to get up and put on his toes.
That made him realize that there was a presence near him, so he turned to look over there, to be shocked.
'A devourer?' He thought as he looked at the blue skin in front of him.
But it was a rather curious and unusual one.
