Project Sol : (Superman x Marvel)

Chapter 5: Chapter 5 : The Deal

NEW YORK CITY

ON THE ROOFTOPS

Sol's POV:

I sat on the edge of a rooftop, legs dangling over traffic and chaos. The wind tugged at my hoodie, still damp from the Lizard's rancid spit. Below, the city of New York resumed like nothing had ever happened. Buses, road-rage, traffic – Normal.

God, I missed normal.

Spider-man perched next to me, his mask half lifted as he sipped on a soda.

"Soo…. Laser eyes, huh?"

I gave him a side glance. "Yeah, I totally meant to do that."

He laughed. "Sure, and I totally meant to get choked out by a six-foot iguana."

"But listen." He leaned forwards, "Look, all that aside, what you did today? with the bus? That was some real heroics. People saw it, they're already talking."

I raised a lone eyebrow "Talking?"

He pulled out his phone. And sure enough one search later, my face was plastered across dozens of headlines.

Mysterious teen saves school bus in Manhattan bridge disaster

New York's new hero??

New teen vigilante surfaces

I shut my eyes tightly. "This was a mistake."

"Hey" Peter said, his tone unusually serious. "You saved lives today, that's not a mistake."

Before he could continue, a distant rumble occurred. Thunder, accompanied by a familiar red streak, descending fast.

Tony's repulsors shrieked as he hovered to a stop opposite me. His faceplate receded, revealing his concerned expression.

"Found you."

Thor landed seconds after, lightning crackling in his wake. His eyes met mine, his expression weirdly – impressed?

"We have seen your battle; you may be a child. But your power rivals my own" he announced.

"Cool," I muttered, standing slowly. "So what? You here to bring me in?"

Tony raised both his hands, palms unarmed.

"Relax, Boy wonder. We aren't here to fight. Fury wants a word. He promises to play nice"

I hesitated, my fists clenched.

Did I even want to return?

I wanted to say no, to fly off into the sky and disappear. But… I needed answers, resources. Things only they could give me.

"Fine," I turned towards Tony. "But you better be telling the truth."

Tony chuckled, giving me a sharp salute. "Scouts honour."

SHIELD TEMPORARY FACILITY

MANHATTAN

Fury stood in front of a large display, arms crossed. The footage of me lifting the bus and amputating the Lizard played on multiple monitors. Different angles. Different resolutions.

I hovered in the doorway, unsure whether or not to disturb his brooding session, Thor and Tony standing behind me.

"I'll get to the point," Fury broke the silence. "You're powerful, clearly not from around these parts. And just about every force on Earth wants a piece of you."

I tensed.

"But you saved lives," he added. "And right now the world's scared. New threats emerge every day. Metahumans, mutants, super powered threats."

He paused, then turned to face me.

"We could use someone of your capabilities in the Avenger's initiative, a chance for you to prove yourself to the world, and to yourself."

I scoffed internally, Classic Nick Fury

Manipulating people into joining his initiative. The same way he used Coulson's death to bind the Avengers together.

But I knew better.

I couldn't afford to join SHIELD permanently

Not with HYDRA lurking within the ranks

"I have conditions," I met his gaze, refusing to cave. "I'm not your soldier. I'll help when I want, not because I'm ordered to."

His eyes narrowed, evaluating my request.

A tense minute passed

"So, who are you?" his voice cut through the silence.

I froze, his question catching me off guard.

I opened my mouth, but stopped. I didn't know. Not really.

Clark Kent and Luke.

Two mismatched identities, buried within my psyche. What was left?

"…Sol," I said, the word strangely familiar on my tongue. "Call me Sol."

Thor smiled. "A fitting name. The sun that rises."

Tony snorted. "Just try not to blind anyone next time, Sunshine."

I smirked. "No promises."

LATER

STARK TOWER

Tony handed me a tablet. "Here. Some of the team's files. Powers, favourite foods, even playlists. Everything you need to know."

I scrolled past names. Banner. Barton. Romanoff.

"You know kid, you've got power," Tony said, voice low. "But power isn't always enough, its about choices. That's what makes you human.

I nodded. For once, I didn't have a snarky reply.

Across the city, lights glimmered like stars. I stood near the glass, lost in thought.

Sol

It wasn't me. Not yet.

But maybe, one day, it would be.
