Chapter 415: Lack of Communication
Xie Xiao looked at Qi Yan with his spirits down and slightly furrowed his brows.
Actually, he knew that Qi Yan, although usually appeared easy to talk to.
But in essence, he was still a master; his family was really good, being born at a point that many people can't reach in their lifetime.
He was educated well by his family, so it wasn't obvious normally.
But in his bones, Qi Yan still had a bit of that master's temper and desire for control.
It seemed especially so in emotional matters.
Not to mention Qi Yan's family was somewhat special.
With two sons, but Qi Yan's older brother was a policeman and still unmarried.
The family would definitely focus more attention on Qi Yan.
"Since I got married, my family has been hinting about children, both openly and covertly. I'm actually afraid to bring Meiya home, afraid she'll hear these words. You know my family hasn't split up yet, and my second uncle and the others are watching every day..."
If Qi Yan had not been very capable, they could still talk about his ambition and such.
But Qi Yan was indeed capable himself.
Making his male cousins look even more ordinary by comparison.
Probably only in the aspect of having children could they outdo Qi Yan.
He would always get nagged every time he went back.
Although Qi Yan's mother would help block it off.
"But I can also see that Meiya really doesn't want to go back," Qi Yan abruptly found a parking space and stopped the car, "I kind of want to smoke."
Xie Xiao glanced at the time, sent a message to Li Jun, postponing the morning meeting, and then unbuckled his seatbelt, "Let's find a place to sit down."
Qi Yan was taken aback.
But the timing was too odd, where could they go around eight or nine in the morning?
In the end, two well-dressed, tall men each ordered a McDonald's meal and found a corner seat to sit down.
Actually, there were many people in suits buying breakfast at McDonald's.
But Xie Xiao and Qi Yan were still very conspicuous.
Because of their height and handsomeness, and also because the suits they wore looked very expensive.
Among the crowd of office workers packing up and rushing back to work and clock in, they were the ones who said no to takeaways.
And then, they just sat down in the corner.
Qi Yan was quite happy, "Haven't eaten this in a long time."
"You can order it through your secretary," Xie Xiao was indifferent, "Li Jun had a phase where he wanted to eat it, and he ate McDonald's and KFC for a week straight."
Xie Xiao has always been indifferent about food.
Whatever Li Jun ordered, he would eat.
And that guy, he actually did eat it for a whole week.
Had Xie Xiao not said anything, he probably would've eaten it for half a month.
Qi Yan laughed after hearing that, "Hey, why don't you let Li Jun work for me? I can't seem to find a suitable secretary here."
Qi Yan thought of his secretary and frowned, "It's time for a change."
His secretary had always been female.
There was nothing wrong with that initially, but a female secretary and a male boss were quite prone to rumors.
Add to that the fact that Qi Yan was young and handsome.
The current secretary had been with Qi Yan from the start of the company, and Qi Yan found her quite handy to have around.
At first, he didn't notice anything amiss.
But ever since he got married, the secretary started acting strangely.
Last time Lin Meiya came to the company and ended up arguing with Qi Yan when she got back.
She said there was a problem with his secretary.
"I didn't notice any issues with my secretary, but arguing with her is a hassle, so I might as well change." Qi Yan frowned as he spoke.
Xie Xiao's expression turned somewhat serious, "Has your relationship with Meiya become that strained now?"
Qi Yan glanced at him and fell silent.
He hadn't figured it out himself yet, how did it seem like he was dealing with a different person after marriage?
The Lin Meiya from before was clearly not like this...
Qi Yan said in a low voice, "Is it because I don't know how to manage a marriage? Or is it because we married too quickly?"
Xie Xiao looked at the irritation that Qi Yan couldn't dispel between his brows; after all, matters of the heart are the hardest to analyze.
No matter what outsiders say, it is useless, as feelings are indeed a matter of personal experience.
"Regretting getting married?" Xie Xiao asked again.
Qi Yan was silent, and it took him a while before he finally said, "I regret it."
Xie Xiao's heart sank, "Did you say this to your wife too?"
"No." Qi Yan glanced at him, "I'm not really that foolish, and besides, listen to me first. I regret it because if we hadn't gotten married, she wouldn't have become like this."
Surprise took over the contemplation on Xie Xiao's face.
Qi Yan looked out the window, where people were rushing off to work, "A good marriage is probably like yours and Lin Yu's. Look, whether it's Luoluo or Hai Ou, they both seem happy. So, in the end, the problem is still with me. It's because she married me that Meiya is not happy."
Qi Yan gave a bitter laugh, "At first, I was resentful, thinking 'how did she change so much after getting married?'
That was until he saw her secretly crying in the room, and then her phone rang.
Lin Meiya's family is not in City B.
They spoke in her local dialect, which Qi Yan couldn't quite understand.
But he did understand that sentence, "No, Mom, Qi Yan is good, he really is good."
At that moment, Qi Yan wondered, how could he be good?
They had just had a fight, even though he didn't understand why they would argue over a secretary.
Changing secretary was fine, but Qi Yan just wanted a reason.
Yet, Lin Meiya said the secretary was interested in him.
Qi Yan had then laughed it off, saying, "That shouldn't be the case, I've known her longer than I've known you, how could there be anything between us..."
And that made Lin Meiya angry.
Qi Yan became even quieter after seeing her with red-rimmed eyes still telling her mother he was fine.
"Xie Xiao, am I really that awful?" Qi Yan sighed.
Xie Xiao didn't judge Qi Yan as a person; in fact, Qi Yan was already a decent man.
He simply asked, "So, you're thinking of divorce?"
Qi Yan looked at him sharply, "Why would I want a divorce? How difficult it was to marry a wife, so why divorce her?"
"Then you say you regret it, and look like this?" Xie Xiao raised an eyebrow in response. Explore stories on My Virtual Library Empire
Qi Yan clicked his tongue, "You're the one who asked, so I gave you an honest answer, right? What I really want to know is where the problem lies between me and my wife. Is it really because our courtship was too short? But it wasn't that short, was it?"
Xie Xiao sounded a noncommittal "hmm," "Actually, the length of time isn't a big issue; it's mainly that you two lack communication."
Xie Xiao smiled as he thought of something, "Straight talk, you know, my wife and I rarely fight even when we were dating, because we both speak our minds directly."
Although Luo Yanran was a bit reserved at the beginning.
But Xie Xiao was always about straight talk.
So, as their relationship deepened, their interactions became straight talk.
This can reduce conflicts and eliminates the need for guessing each other's thoughts.
Guessing what the other person means is a thing that can truly erode a relationship.
If your interests differ, that's one thing, but if this is how everything is on a day-to-day basis.
How exhausting would that be?
"Straight talk?"
