Chapter 37: Chapter 36: Headliner
Tereasa: 40 MINUTES INTO THE FIRST HALF!!! THANKS TO ITOSHI RIN'S GOAL... BLUE LOCK DOUBLES DOWN ON THEIR LEAD, 2-0!!!!! WHO COULD'VE SEEN THIS COMING?!!!!
Kiyotaka: (He took into account Aiku's position and purposely egged him on, bypassing his pressure with a well-timed shot. I'd expect nothing less from him.)
Isagi: (He's a damn genius! That motion that prevented the opponent from predicting his timing... and that outside shot... incredible!) Rin!
Rin, looking on at Isagi and still celebrating his goal, moved away as he slid across the ground.
Kiyotaka: Nice job for a second-chance goal.
Rin sighed.
Rin: If you made your shot, I wouldn't need to finish off your mistake.
Kiyotaka: I could say the same to you, pretending you're Itoshi Sae just to one-up him and failing miserably. Who cleaned up your mess there?
Bachira laughed as he and Isagi went in between the both of them.
Isagi: You both already scored. Can't you guys get along for a single match?
Kiyotaka: Why would we?
Isagi: Hm?
Kiyotaka walked away as he sighed.
Kiyotaka: This is how we should be, hating each other to the bone. It gives us something to strive towards. If we were all friends, there wouldn't be a need to grow and develop. That goes without question.
Rin, completely ignoring Kiyotaka's comments, ordered Isagi around.
Rin: We've doubled the lead and it's almost halftime. Our plans are changing. We're running plan B.
Bachira smiled.
Bachira: Fine by me!
Isagi: Ok... Rin.
{{}}
Hirata: That's Itoshi Sae's brother for you! What a goal from outside the box.
Kei: They're destroying the U-20 team!
Horikita: They all look kind of done with the whole experience. Unless something changes, they're finished.
Ryuen: Ah~, there we go. Keep piling up that scoreboard.
Ichinose smiled widely and clapped her hands, her eyes focusing on Kiyotaka, who was speaking with his teammates.
Arisu, quiet and analyzing the field of play, didn't seem all that happy.
Kamuro: Hm? What's with that face? Shouldn't you be... I don't know... a little happier? Maybe a smile? They're up by two.
She sighed slightly.
She didn't answer Kamuro. Instead, her eyes peered over to the U-20 bench as a camera gave a slight focus there. In the first seat, now taking off his jacket, a player stood up and began stretching.
Arisu: (I got a look at his portfolio alongside Kiyo's from the Blue Lock project. They had a total of three selections before this match was called. The first, a group stage with four teams battling for promotion, the second, individual duels up to a 5v5 where they face off against a group of legendary pros. And finally, the third selection was used to choose the supporting characters around Kiyotaka and five other top rankers. Five out of the top six are on Blue Lock's starting lineup. One is missing. And he's right over there. I don't know why he's on the bench but I guess I'll have to see.)
{{}}
From across the field, Yagami looked visibly frustrated. His calm composure moments before, was now crumbling before Itoshi Sae's eyes.
Yagami: (Fucking annoying. These U-20 players are playing like ass. I wouldn't even associate with them if Kiyotaka hadn't been across the field in front of me. Damn them and damn him.)
Itoshi Sae sighed.
Sae: I guess you're lukewarm too. Nothing happening so far has entertained me in the slightest.
The entirety of the U-20 squad were exhausted and in despair, now down 2-0.
Aiku stood next to his squad and apologized.
Aiku: Sorry, everyone. I let him shoot.
Niou: Aiku... we can't really complain if even you couldn't stop him.
Aiku looked on annoyed.
Aiku: Really goes to show how good their two aces are. Our defense needs some adjustments to deal with those two.
After looking down at the pathetic Yagami, Sae walked over to the major problem he saw in this squad.
Sae: So how many times are you gonna keep missing, gravure idol-loving brat?
Sendo: Huh?
Sae: The only reason we're losing is because you didn't score when you could have. This is all on you, piece of shit striker.
Sendo retaliated.
Sendo: Fuck off! Yeah, I may have lost possession, but you can't just pin the blame all on me-
Sae: This isn't about pinning the blame on you. When someone creates an opportunity for you, this is what they're saying: 'SCORE A GOAL.' If we lose this match, your careers on the national team are over. Well... not that I care.
Yagami: We're not going to end it like this!
Chou: We can do it. Use me more Sae-kun.
Hayate: Can I move more forward then?
Wakatsuki: Yeah. Let's get one before halftime.
Aiku: Let's go, you guys-
This emergence of motivation was short-lived, as their sudden wave of adrenaline came crashing down with a few words.
Sae: What are you talking about?
The entirety of the U-20 team looked over at Itoshi Sae as he held his hand up.
Sae: Didn't I make myself very clear? The moment the deficit reached more than a single score, I would quit. So I'm done. You lose, captain. I've seen enough.
Everyone: ...
Sae: That's what you get for making a shitty bet. You just lost all your chips.
Yagami: Sae-kun, wai-
Sae: Did you think you could pay your way into football? Sure, you're fast, have a good physique, and can dribble. But you'll never hold a candle to him. Your White room counterpart still has something you're lacking: passion. You're almost as bad as that gravure-idol loving brat.
He rose his hand as he walked over to the sideline and towards the coach.
*WHISTLE*
The Referee issued a stoppage of the game, completely discontinued to the bewilderment of the entire arena.
{{}}
Kei: Hm? What's going on? The game is stopping.
Hirata: This is strange. Stoppage is usually only done when there's an injury. Is Sae injured? He didn't seem like it.
Sudo: He looked kinda pissed. Maybe he wants to cool off or something?
Maya: That's what he gets for underestimating Kiyotaka!
Horikita: I don't know. I have a bad feeling about this.
{{}}
Coach Yasumori: Yes, Sae, what seems to be the probl-
Sae: Sub me out. I'm leaving.
He turned completely pale as he muttered his words.
Coach Yasumori: You... don't mean that right-
Sae: I do. You subpar fucks in Japan are so useless. I've seen enough. Some of them are still rough on the edges but they're a step-up from this. There's no more incentive for me here.
In the commentator box, Tereasa looked baffled at the sight in front of him.
Tereasa: THERE'S SOMETHING HAPPENING ON THE SIDELINE! IT LOOKS LIKE ITOSHI SAE... IS ASKING TO BE SUBBED OUT?! HIS COACH IS VEHEMENTLY SHAKING HIS HEAD, AS IF HE'S IN DISBELIEF!
Natsuki: THERE'S NO WAY... DID HE GET DISCOURAGED NOW THAT THE SCORE IS 2-0?!
In the audience, fights broke out. Chants begging him to stay and others saying good riddance emerged as the coach almost felt like defecating his pants from the pressure rested on him.
Aiku along with the rest of the U-20 just stood there, defeated, as he explained to them the bet he placed with Sae. This was why Shido stayed on the bench.
{{}}
Koenji: Wow, you really made him quit, Ayanokouji-boy. Not bad. It looks like he didn't get what he wanted.
The student Koenji used to rest his feet on, began to grow irritated.
???: How long are you just going to put your legs on me-
Koenji: As long as I want. If you have a problem with that, we can settle it a different way, boy.
His response was met with silent acceptance as the student continued to act as a proper coffee table.
Kei cheered.
Kei: With him gone, it'll be a complete victory!
Hirata: Itoshi Sae wouldn't do that. I don't get it...
{{}}
Rin looked on, his muscles tensing and shocked.
Rin: What the fuck is he doing?! He thinks he can quit when it benefits him? No... he doesn't deserve the right. He'll sit through the entire ninety minutes, absolutely humiliated.
Isagi: What's happening?! Why is Sae leaving the game?
Kiyotaka: It's really simple. He's not content with their offense. Imagine having Robert Lewandowski on the bench and you're starting Harry Maguire at striker. It just wouldn't make sense no matter how you try to explain it. There must have been some pact between him and the rest of the team. Shido being on the bench could only be explained by that.
Nagi: That's good. The match will get easier.
Kiyotaka's fists tensed.
Kiyotaka: No. Something is going to give. The scenario in front of us is probably the worst thing that could have happened. Whatever little pact they have that's preventing Shido from playing is useless if they're going to lose. Desperation is already running rampant there.
Rin and Isagi looked over.
Isagi: I don't get it...
Rin: He's right. Letting my brother out of this game at this point will ruin the match. Knowing those greedy fucks of the JFU, they'll try something.
Kiyotaka: It looks like they already have. Have a look over there.
On the U-20 bench, Shido stretched his back and stood up, taking a look at the beauty the stadium along with their many fans brought.
Shido: ~Ah... it's gonna be a blast to fight against you, Kiyo. Looks like my bet with Sae-chan is finally on. That first goal of yours really revamped my engines~
The JFU Chairman busted through the stands and towards the U-20 coach in sheer anger.
JFU Chairman: You fucking useless, coach! YOU HAVE ITOSHI SAE! CAN'T YOU DO ANYTHING WITH THAT?!
Coach: I'm...sorry!!!
The Chairman bowed down to Sae who seemed utterly done with the entire scenario.
JFU Chairman: Please accept our apology. You wanted that Blue Lock player Shido to start, right? We'll let him play! I don't have any shame!
Sae: Hm? Interesting.
He looked over at Shido who already began his stretches.
Sae: That works just fine. However, I ask that this coach be effectively fired.
Coach: What?
Sae: There's no point for him being here when Shido enters the game. Substitutions end with him. All the tactics and plays this team needs is all right here.
Pointing right at his head, Sae looked on, staring down the shitty coach.
JFU Chairman: Yes, of course. He's never going to coach a game again!
Walking over to the Referee who called stoppage for the game, Sae gave him orders.
Sae: Sub out Wakatsuki and put in Ryusei Shido, effective now.
Referee: Yes!
*WHISTLE*
Stoppage for the game ended and a board on the sideline, indicating the change of subs, lit up.
Wakatsuki would be taken out for Ryusei Shido.
{{}}
Kei: You're the soccer expert, Hirata. Who's this Shido guy?
Hirata: I have no idea. Never heard of him before.
Kei: Eh? Another one? Is this a trend or something.
Horikita: Karuizawa-san is right. It's strange. Another player that's coming out of nowhere.
Sudo: If you don't know him, Hirata, he's probably not that big of a deal.
Hirata: Sae was going to quit just now. That was very clear. And because of this one guy we haven't heard of before, he's ok with continuing? There must be something to it.
Horikita: All I can gather is that he might have a link with the Blue Lock project. But I'm just grasping at straws with this claim.
From his seat, Ryuen scoffed at the new player introduced.
Ryuen: And who's this clown?
Ichinose looked on, not even paying attention to such a substitution.
Kamuro looked over to Arisu.
Kamuro: You must know who that guy is since you probably read up on everything.
Arisu: I've seen that player plastered all over Kiyotaka's files. The number one striker of the Blue Lock program.
Kamuro: N-Number one striker? The project had a ranking system?
Arisu: Of course, it did. Ryussei Shido was number one, Itoshi Rin number two, and Ayanokouji Kiyotaka number three. Their scores, compared to everyone else in the Blue Lock program, were off the charts, completely ahead of everyone else. And now one of them is coming in to lead the opponents' attack.
Kamuro: Can't believe there were two other players better than Ayanokouji.
Arisu: Looking through everything, I can deduce that Kiyotaka is the best overall player the Blue Lock Project has to offer.
Kamuro: But-
Arisu: However... Ryussei Shido is Blue Lock's best 'striker' for a reason.
She smiled.
Arisu: Fufufu... this is too exciting.
{{}}
On Blue Lock's bench, Anri looked on at the mess in terror.
Anri: Ah, crap! We should have known they'd pull something like this. I knew it wasn't gonna be this easy!
Ego: Stop your panicking. I knew this would happen from the start. Without Shido, a 6-0 blowout was in the cards. Now, our egoists will have a real challenge.
Kiyotaka, seeing Shido taking off his sub jersey and putting on his actual jersey, remained emotionless.
Kiyotaka: Looks like I was right. However, they are bringing him in much earlier than I thought.
Isagi: (Crap! I knew he was going to play but we were just getting use to the U-20 team in front of us. There's no telling what's going to happen now!)
The U-20's coach was effectively fired and left the arena in shame as Wakatsuki was subbed out.
Wakatsuki: That's sad.
Sendo looked on, completely angry. Ever since Sae and Shido arrived alongside Yagami, their whole team was now different.
Shido, with a bright smile on his face, greeted Wakatsuki.
Shido: I'd say you did your best but, it's not like it did much. Let a pro show you how it's done and sit your ass down.
The Commentary box, now seeing a new substitute, rejoiced at Sae's changed heart.
Tereasa: L-LOOKS LIKE THE DISCUSSION WAS FOR A NEW SUB! ANOTHER PLAYER THE WORLD HASN'T HEARD OF BEFORE HAS ENTERED THE ARENA, RYUSSEI SHIDO. HE TAKES THE PLACE OF Wakatsuki AND SWITCHES PLACES WITH SENDO TO BE THE NEW STRIKER OF THE U-20!
Natsuki: THE COACH APPEARES TO BE DISMISSED BUT THE GAME HAS NOW RESUMED!!!! EVERYONE BACK TO YOUR SEATS!!!!! I FEEL LIKE WE'RE ON THE STARTING PATH FOR A COMEBACK!!!!
{{}}
Hirata: Well, we're about to see what this Shido guy is about.
Horikita: Wait, look.
{{}}
Rin: Back to your positions. They're going to check the ball and start the game soon.
Shido walked over the fazed and shocked U-20 players and towards Kiyotaka.
He smiled.
Shido: Good to see ya, Kiyo.
Kiyotaka smiled.
Kiyotaka: Likewise. I knew it was only a matter of time before they brought you on.
Shido: No hard feelings right? Just doing what I'm told... I did get kidnapped, hehe...
Kiyotaka: You'll get no bickering from me. I'm just glad to see you're alright. My goal hasn't changed. May the best player win.
And then, something surprising happened.
Shido wrapped his arms around Kiyotaka, hugging him passionately.
Kiyotaka: ...
Shido: Let's all have a blast!
{{}}
With the eventful and affectionate hug from an unknown like Shido, Kei stood there, shocked.
Hirata: Looks like they know each other, huh.
Sato: No way...
Sato Maya's previous joke about Kiyotaka potentially cheating on Kei resurfaced in her mind.
Sato: (It's probably just a hug. There's no way Kiyo's...)
Ichinose fainted as she fell over onto Kanzaki who quickly caught her.
Ryuen looked somewhat stunted but regained his composure.
Ryuen: Probably just haven't seen each other in a while or something.
Kamuro looked on speechless, while Arisu was serious.
Arisu: Hm... it appears they're even closer than the files my dad got me. I knew they were a duo in the second selection but I didn't think it went this far. Karuizawa won't take this standing, not that it matters.
Ike: Ayanokouji's gay? What the hell?
Shinohara: I guess Karuizawa-san broke him, hehe.
Sudo: Just shut the fuck up, bitch.
Horikita: Sudo's right. Nothing good ever comes from your mouth.
Sato put on an act to comfort her.
Sato: It's alright Kei. They just seem like good friends. Friends can hu-
Kei looked down at the pitch and saw Kiyotaka not moving away from the hug, as if this was a daily occurrence in their relationship.
Her face darkened as her eyes widened completely open. To say she was jealous was an understatement.
The hug wasn't just something quick, like a single second or moment. It was lingering... a lot.
Kei: Keep hugging him and see where that gets you.
{{}}
Kiyotaka: I'd like it if you'd let go. The match is starting up.
He finally let go and winked at him.
Shido: Good luck... you'll need it.
He walked over to his squad as he bumped fists with Sae.
Shido: So... let's do this. Ya remember our bet, right Sae-chan? Nothing crazy like that shitty Captain's bet. Just plain, old, fun.
Sae nodded.
Sae: I know. It starts now. Get ready, demon.
He looked over to Aiku.
Sae: Why the long face? I'm not leaving you failures anymore. Be grateful. The team now runs through me and Shido. Everyone else follows our commands like good, little puppets. That's all there is to it.
Shido: Time to show the world my release!!!
...
---GAME RESTART---
...
Tereasa: LOOKS LIKE THAT STOPPAGE CLEAVED THROUGH A COUPLE OF MINUTES. WE'VE ALREADY REACHED THE 45 MINUTE BENCHMARK!!!! HOW MUCH ADDED TIME DO YOU THINK WE'RE GONNA GET?!
Natsuki: HAS TO BE AT LEAST FIVE MINUTES! WAIT! IT LOOKS LIKE THE REFEREE IS PUTTING IT UP! AND IT IS... FIVE ADDITIONAL MINUTES! CALLED IT! NOW, WHAT WILL THIS NEW OFFENSE UNDER SHIDO AND ITOSHI SAE LOOK LIKE?!
On Blue Lock's side, Kiyotaka barked an order.
Kiyotaka: Everyone knows their roles. Park the bus.
Nagi remained up as a striker in front while everyone else, including Bachira now, dropped back. Their goal was to finish the half with a two-goal cushion.
{{}}
Hirata: Park the bus! That's smart. There's only a couple minutes left.
Kei: Hm...
{{}}
Kiyotaka: (Shido can't get any momentum. We need to kill off this duo before they get going.)
Sae checked the ball to Yagami as he pushed the ball forward. Now being reduced to a supporting character, he begrudgingly agreed.
Yagami: (What's so good about Shido that you almost left like a bitch because we were down, Sae? It doesn't matter. My goal remains the same: Defeat Kiyotaka and bring him back to the white room. That's all there is.)
As Sae and Yagami pushed forward from the middle of the field, Kiyotaka looked on and glued himself onto Shido.
Shido: Now look who's hugging me?
Kiyotaka: You're too dangerous to be left alone.
The Sae and Yagami duo danced through both Nagi and Isagi, with Karasu pushing up to block Sae's passing lanes.
Without looking at the ball, he placed a perfect lob over Karasu's head as he was physically boxed out by Yagami's frame.
Now, pushing forward, he sees Sae blitz past the fooled Karasu as another pass cleanly makes it towards his feet.
Sae: Come on monster. Show me why I picked you.
Shido smiled as he and Kiyotaka engaged in a 1v1 using solely off-the-ball movement.
As Shido bolts forward, his frame collided with Kiyotaka. Whenever he spun right, Kiyotaka would adjust and lower his body, absorbing the impact and holding him in place.
{{}}
Arisu: He has an impressive build, and his acrobatic ability is certainly off the charts for a highschooler. However, Kiyotaka matches him in that regard.
Hirata: This guy is elusive!
Kei: Hm...
{{}}
Shido: Hehe, annoying Kiyo.
Sendo: Shido! Use me!
Shido: Now you get it, NPC. Help me break through to earn yourself a supporting character role, loser striker~
Sendo, understanding the situation and being effectively humbled into a puppet but Sae and Shido, threw Kiyotaka off by changing the 1v1 into a 2v1.
Kiyotaka's eyes kept scanning the area around them, and understanding exactly what Sae might do to get Shido involved.
While thinking this, Sae tapped the ball softly, the pass going right through Niko's feet, surprising him.
Shido instinctively rushed forward as Kiyotaka tried to turn around and block his advance. But Sendo arrived in between his path and effectively cut him off.
Shido: ~Lucky~
{{}}
Koenji: Ah, smart. Cutting Ayanokouji-boy off from the attack using what's literally a 'pick and roll' tactic from basketball.
{{}}
Now with the ball, and getting closer and closer to the penalty box, Shido saw Arryu push through to guard him as he smiled, sending a short pass over to Yagami on the right wing.
Shido: ~Better give it back to me, midget~
Yagami: Shut up
Otoya tried to stealthy steal the ball away from Yagami, but it failed spectacularly, as Yagami dropped back and used his limited knowledge to replicate Itoshi Sae's cross elastico.
With a single turn and flick forward, Otoya was nutmegged, and he fell to the ground, his ankles broken. The audience erupted in chants as Yagami continued forward.
Turning a corner, he smashed the ball, sending a cross over. Kiyotaka rushed forward to get in between the pass and Shido.
However, to everyone's shock, the cross was never meant for Shido. It landed in Sae's feet from outside the box.
{{}}
Hirata: What a play!
Horikita: Once again, Sae's going to initiate an attack. For their first play together, the trio sure are meshing well together.
Kei: Hm...
Sudo: What can he do from that position though?
{{}}
Sae: You did something good for once, loser, not bad.
*PASS*
A beautiful lob right through Kiyotaka's area of vision cut through and reached Shido's feet as he controlled it perfectly mid-air, a foot away from entering the penalty box.
Shido: Nice pass! Witness my-
*KICK*
Niko, seeing the play in his head, reacted and hit Shido's right leg incredibly hard. Shido riled in pain on the ground as a whistle sounded.
*WHISTLE*
Instantly, a yellow card was shown to Niko by the referee.
In the commentary box, Tereasa screamed out.
Tereasa: THE FIRST FOUL OF THE GAME AND IT'S A YELLOW CARD FOR THE BLUE LOCK ELEVEN CENTERBACK, IKKI NIKO!!!
Niko: (Shit... I couldn't see it... I knew it would go through, but I couldn't cleanly block it... I had to foul)
Kiyotaka walked over and lent a hand over to the riling Shido as he took it and rose to his feet.
A sudden outbreak of rage from Shido was expected by everyone.
However, the outburst never came as he caught himself before he acted on his anger. It was in part due to Kiyotaka, who made sure to pick him off the ground before he exploded.
{{}}
Horikita: What's Ayanokouji doing? If he got into a fight, he might have gotten a yellow or red card.
Raising his voice, Koenji cut through Horikita's comment.
Koenji: But then it wouldn't be any fun. He's certainly changed a lot since his expulsion. He doesn't want to win on a technicality. It shows how close the two really are. Ayanokouji-boy's never been so interesting.
Sato: It doesn't mean they're close... it could be that-
Kei: You don't have to say anything else, Sato. It's fine. Me and him will have a talk at half-time.
Hirata: I don't know. We should leave Ayanokouji to himself. This match is very import-
Kei: I said I'd have a talk with him. He better have answers.
Hirata relented and put his hands up in surrender.
Ryuen scoffed, annoyed.
Ryuen: (Now you want to act all soft, monster? It would have been so easy getting him ejected there! Kukuku, oh well. If that happened, this match wouldn't be exciting. Winning this bet would be nice but where's the fun if the game's just a blowout?)
{{}}
Shido: You're lucky Kiyo's here or I would have ripped you a new one, fuck.
Niko: Just doing my job, antenna fuck.
Isagi: Nice, Niko.
Niko: No... we were just lucky he wasn't inside the box.
Sae walked over to Kiyotaka.
Sae: Take a hike, he's not yours anymore. The only chemical reaction he knows now... is from me.
Kiyotaka walked away and back to his group as Rin sighed at the sight alongside Isagi, who was lost in thought.
Rin: You better understand the difference between enemy and ally, dumbass. Getting all chummy with your lover on another team is just gonna fuck your play. That's all you're good for anyway.
Kiyotaka: I could care less about your shitty advice when you're still bound to your brother.
Isagi: Guys, we have to get into positi-
Kiyotaka and Rin: We know.
The two knew very well what this situation was: a potential turning point. This would make or break the U-20 team. A goal here and their fortunes are changed. A stop here cements the momentum in Blue Lock's favor.
Each and every player got into their positions. Kiyotaka and Rin didn't line up to block the free kick. Instead, both placed themselves on both sides of the penalty box, free to roam once the free kick commenced.
Gagamaru looked forward, extending his hands and widening his stance.
Shido smiled. He stood near the ball, which was placed outside the box for the free kick. Sae stood on the other side of the ball, looking up at the sky.
Shido: I'm taking this free kick, Sae-chan-
Sae: Are you a dumbass?
Shido: Eh?
Sae: Is that the best play in your mind as of this moment?
Shido retorted and sighed.
Shido: You're no fun. It was a joke. Damn you're really a killjoy-
Sae: So what is the best play for this moment than, Ryusei Shido?
Shido's mind wandered around until he finally answered him.
Shido: If you're anything like Kiyo, I think you already know.
Sae: I already know how your mind works. We both know where the perfect angle for your goal can be materialized. So, don't say another word. Follow your own instincts. Throw away everything.
He glared right at him.
Sae: The time for dreams is over, demon. If your bet is to show any sort of merit, you must explode for me right now.
Shido smiled.
Shido: Now that's more like it.
...
...
...
In the commentary box, Tereasa went crazy.
Tereasa: EXTRA TIME HAS COME AND PASSED. HERE IT IS!!! THE FINAL PLAY OF THIS FANTASTIC FIRST HALF!!! WHAT WILL THIS NEW DUP OF RYUSSEI SHIDO AND ITOSHI SAE PULL OFF HERE?!
*WHISTLE*
With everyone in position, the referee blew his whistle, resuming the match.
Immediately, Shido pushed forward, ready to hit the ball.
Isagi: (So the free kick taker is Shido-)
*DASH*
Instead of kicking the ball, he stepped over it and dashed to the right as Kiyotaka's eyes widened.
Kiyotaka: (This scenario... it's incredibly familiar. Oh... it makes sense... it always made sense...)
*DASH*
Without any smidge of hesitation, Kiyotaka rushed towards Shido's position, attempting to cut him off from the pass he knew was coming.
{{}}
Getting up from her seat, almost immediately, Arisu steadied herself with her cane as her eyes widened.
Arisu: Kiyotaka's the only one among them that can stop Shido because they played together for a while. He knows where he will likely turn for his goal. But it's one thing to be the attacking duo and another to be defending it.
Koenji: My, that Shido-boy is incredible. He's certainly one of my people. It seems like Ayanokouji-boy knew the attack before it materialized. However, the angle Shido took is too quick. Even I can see from here. How exciting.
{{}}
Sae marched forward, raising his leg, his eyes turned crimson red in a malevolent aura.
*SMASH*
The ball left his feet instantly as it glided through the air towards Shido's trapping range.
Kiyotaka: (This was one of our perfect chemical reactions. It happens when a perfect pass meets a perfect finish. The angle he's taking... it's perfect...)
Without looking up at the ball, Shido turned on a dot as he completely rose off the ground first, outpacing Kiyotaka.
Kiyotaka stuck out his foot as he himself jumped to block the attempt.
But it was too late... Shido had taken a perfect angle for his goal.
Shido: DRAGON DRIVE~
*SMASH*
Contorting his body almost on a dime, Shido used the tip of his foot to cleave the ball right through Kiyotaka's grasp and into the top right-hand corner of the goal. Gagamaru couldn't reach there in time.
Blue Lock [2] - U-20 Japan [1]
Shido jumped over Kiyotaka's descending body as he smiled.
Shido: ~Could have been better Sae-chan... but the dopamine hits all the same. ~That's the stuff...
