Chapter 482: Temporal Imprisonment (Part 2)

Deep in his throat, it was as if a sudden bone spur had grown, not only blocking all vibrations of his vocal cords but also bringing a tearing pain.

"Hah..."

A muffled groan squeezed out from Chu Zheng's throat, his face instantly turned pale, cold sweat constantly seeping down his back.

Cold beads of sweat quickly soaked through his already thin and tattered clothes, making him look as if he had just been fished out of water, shivering uncontrollably.

This was not an illusion, Chu Zheng clearly felt that in that instant, a reversed bone indeed grew in his throat.

This was a suppression from the Space-time Law itself, a shackle originating from the forbidden realm.

However, this suppression wasn't firm, Chu Zheng could forcibly break it open, but the consequences might not be something he could bear.

This is the past, at this point in time, the existence of Chu Zheng had not yet been born.

In this realm belonging to the past, once he uttered his real name, it would mean completely altering the timeline.

This would cause very serious consequences, could trigger a storm that cannot be foreseen.

He might be directly erased, as he should not have existed as a backward traveler, possibly even shaking the ancient and modern times, completely altering the future.

The future must not be changed, or else his very existence would be completely erased.

This is not his era, he eventually has to return, he came here just for the secret of reincarnation, and must not affect the future.

Now he must be exceedingly cautious, any tiny move might trigger a catastrophic storm in the distant future.

This is the iron rule of the Space-time Law.

Xue Qing looked at Chu Zheng's suddenly pale face, furrowing her brows slightly, shaking her head gently, not thinking much of it, taking it as a symptom of the little fool falling ill again, ignoring him and turning to continue serving the few passing guests.

Chu Zheng took a deep breath, suppressing the thoughts in his heart, feeling the inverse bone in his throat gradually disappear, he slowly lowered his head, looking at the half bowl of wontons.

His gaze had returned to the previous calm, he seemed to know where the boundary of space-time was.

At least before making mistakes, the Space-time Law would remind him of what can and cannot be done.

As time passed, the bustling of the market gradually quieted down, leaving only the sporadic sound of the night watch echoing in the cold night.

Xue Qing skillfully cleaned up the wonton stall, extinguishing the stove fire, the last warmth dissipating with it, leaving only a faint lingering fragrance in the air.

Chu Zheng stood silently not far away, like a shadow merging with the night.

Watching Xue Qing wrap up the stall, he said nothing, only when she pushed the wooden cart ready to leave did he start moving, following at a slow pace.

His steps were still somewhat unsteady, and the warmth from the bowl of wontons in his stomach was rapidly driven away by the night chill.

He didn't quite know where he should go, this unfamiliar past time-space, to him, was like an endless desert, and before his cultivation grew enough to ensure his safety, he had no suitable place to go.

At this moment, the girl named Xue Qing in front of him was his only familiar, and the anchor he could grasp.

Not just for those few bowls of wontons, but also because, in the fragments of his memory, this girl in front once saved him in the future, and he had to repay this favor.

Xue Qing pushed the cart a distance when she quickly noticed the small tail behind her, she stopped her steps, the creaking sound of the wheels suddenly halted.

She turned around, in the dimness, those black and white eyes carried undisguised impatience and a hint of wariness, like a small beast annoyed by a stray cat, her tone cold:

"Why are you following me?"

The night wind brushed across her bangs, making her voice seem particularly cold in the silence:

"I don't have a place at home for you to stay!"

"I fed you a few meals, and now you're clinging on to me?"

Her words were blunt, even a bit cutting, clearly delineating boundaries.

Evidently, that slight bit of goodwill wasn't enough to open her door to a dirty, mysterious little fool, she didn't want to invite extra trouble.

Chu Zheng's steps paused, Xue Qing's straightforward refusal left him momentarily at a loss.

This wasn't how it should be.

He always felt something was off, as if there had been a mistake somewhere.

But he completely understood Xue Qing's rejection, couldn't find a reason to rebut.

Ultimately, he just gripped the broken bowl tightly, silently stepping forward again, keeping a consistent distance behind Xue Qing's cart.

Xue Qing frowned, glancing at him a few times, seeing he had no intention of leaving, she was too lazy to waste more words, just muttering "little fool" under her breath, she ignored him, and continued pushing her cart forward.

Through several dark and narrow alleys, shrouded in night mist, the two of them, one in front and one behind, arrived at a secluded courtyard adjacent to the city corner, about seven or eight feet square, within a few steps was the city's moat.

The courtyard wasn't large, its walls made of low earth bricks, already crumbling in places, a seemingly heavy old wooden door was shut tight, the paint on it was already mottled, revealing the dark wood grain.

Inside, there seemed to be two or three low wooden houses, their windows pitch black, with no lamp light visible.

Just looking at this small courtyard, Chu Zheng's heart inexplicably surged with a strong sense of familiarity.

This sense of familiarity came for no reason but was so real, as if from some dust-covered corner in the depths of his soul, he had crossed this gate countless times.

Yet, this was clearly his first time here.

Just as Chu Zheng was dazed by the inexplicable sense of familiarity, staring blankly at the courtyard, Xue Qing had already nimbly unlocked the door, pushing the cart into the courtyard.
