Chapter 10: Chapter 1.9
In the dreamy blue-white room, the morning sunlight streamed through the curtains, casting a golden glow on the small figure curled up on the bed. Xi Lian remained nestled beneath the covers with a peaceful expression, only his delicate face visible.
Waking up, Xi Lian sat on the bed, still caught in the haze of sleep before fully waking up.
"Good morning, system," he murmured in a slightly hoarse voice, the remnants of sleep still clinging to his tone.
As expected, there was no response. Without dwelling on it, he pushed aside the messy strands of hair falling over his eyes and got up, making his way toward the bathroom.
I need to visit a salon today. How did the original even manage this unruly hair? Xi Lian thought, feeling slightly exasperated as he ran his fingers through the wild strands.
Washing up, Xi Lian went downstairs with his bag. As expected, the dining table was nearly empty, with only Xi Ran sitting there. Their parents had likely already left for the company.
Xi Ran finished his breakfast and glanced at his younger brother. "After completing today's work, I'll drop you at Aunt's house in the afternoon."
Xi Lian stiffened slightly before quickly shaking his head. "No need, Brother. I can take the bus," he said hastily, unwilling to endure another suffocating car ride like yesterday.
Xi Ran was silent for a moment before casually transferring some money to Xi Lian's account.
"This is your reward for your academic progress from Father and Mother," he said, repeating the line he had prepared for a long time.
Xi Lian paused, surprised for a moment, before nodding. "Hmm, thank them for me."
Without waiting for a response, he picked up his bag and left.
Taking a bus ride to the bustling city area, Xi Lian's first stop was a hair salon.
In the hair salon, there weren't many customers this early in the morning.
"Hello, how may I help you?" a gentle-looking man with curly blue hair greeted him in a friendly tone upon seeing the slim teenager.
"I want a haircut," Xi Lian said in a low voice.
"Alright, sir. Please have a seat," the hairstylist said, gesturing toward the chair.
As Xi Lian settled in, the stylist draped a cape over him and asked, "Do you have a specific style in mind?"
"No, you can decide," Xi Lian replied politely.
Walking out of the salon, Xi Lian was satisfied with his new hairstyle. His wavy chocolate-brown hair, trimmed just above his eyebrows, framed his face perfectly, accentuating his large dark brown eyes.
The soft waves added a touch of warmth to his delicate features, making him look harmless and adorable.
Brushing his fingers through his newly styled hair, he felt a sense of joy at how much lighter and neater it was compared to before. If the original Xi Lian had made use of his harmless features instead of giving off such a gloomy vibe, maybe his ending would have been different, he mused to himself.
Strolling through the busy street, Xi Lian contemplated where to go next when he suddenly noticed a familiar duo in the crowd.
Before he could call out, he reached forward and lightly tapped one of them on the shoulder.
Jun Hao turned around, his brows furrowing slightly as he took in the sight of an adorable teenager standing before him. His soft wavy hair and bright eyes made him look harmless and familiar, yet Jun Hao couldn't place him.
"Hello, do I know you?" he asked, his voice tinged with curiosity.
When Lu Minzhe turned to look, a flash of surprise crossed his eyes before excitement took over.
"Xi Lian, is that you?" he exclaimed.
Hearing his close friend's reaction, Jun Hao was also taken aback.
Seeing him nod, Lu Minzhe grinned and said, "You look so good!"
"Was I not good-looking before?" Xi Lian teased, raising an eyebrow.
Having interacted with them multiple times due to his mission, Xi Lian found Lu Minzhe more approachable and easier to talk to compared to Jun Hao.
Lu Minzhe leaned in slightly, his voice dropping into a low, flirty tone as he gave a playful wink. "You were cute back then too, but now... you're even cuter."
Hearing Lu Minzhe's playful flirt, Xi Lian instinctively leaned back a little, a soft smile tugging at his lips.
Jun Hao's eyes darkened slightly when he caught the faint blush dusting Xi Lian's cheeks. Without giving Lu Minzhe a chance to continue, he interrupted, his voice steady but firm. "Where were you headed, Xi Lian?"
"Oh, I was just looking for a place to eat," Xi Lian said in a low voice.
Noticing his restrain voice, Jun Hao's eyes darkened slightly. He didn't like how reserved Xi Lian sounded with him compared to Lu Minzhe.
"We were just heading to a newly opened restaurant. Why don't you come with us?" Lu Minzhe suggested cheerfully.
As Xi Lian lowered his head, considering the offer, Lu Minzhe shot a playful, provocative glance at Jun Hao, a smirk tugging at his lips.
Jun Hao's jaw tightened at Lu Minzhe's playful provocation, but he maintained his composure.
Xi Lian, still looking down, hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Alright, I'll join you."
Lu Minzhe beamed. "Great! You'll love the food there."
As they walked side by side, Jun Hao silently fell into step next to Xi Lian, making sure to stay close. His gaze flickered toward Lu Minzhe, unreadable, but the subtle tension between them was not noticed by the party involved
