Chapter 17: Chapter 16: Finally A Time to Reflect
[Rael's POV]
I never passed out. I watched as Selene's body fell and went limp on the ground. The Wyvern, whose heart should have been pierced, was still alive and kicking! The four green Wyverns behind it were completely fine as well. They didn't even show a hint of fear after seeing the white Wyvern get one of its vital organs pierced.
"Now, who would have thought." A deep, profound-sounding voice echoed in my ears. At first, I thought I was going crazy, but I heard it again.
"I would have never expected that, HAHA!" The White Wyvern began laughing, and I instantly pieced together whose voice it was and where it was coming from.
"It's clear you can't speak, and she's unconscious, but you both did pass — and rather splendidly at that. This trial was more focused on teamwork, but I have to say, Mana Overload wasn't something I was expecting. Your ability to make something work despite those limitations is an outstanding trait to have." The white Wyvern paused before continuing.
"The condition to clear the trial was to land a hit on me while working together. That was it. Needless to say, landing three hits is pretty damn good! Though, having my guys back off did make the trial ten times easier. You're welcome, by the way."
'Thanks,' I thought seriously, though I had no real way to convey it. Hopefully, it felt my intention.
The White Wyvern nodded, seemingly acknowledging my intent, and continued, "The next trial won't be like the rest. It will be the third and final one, and it will also be the hardest. So much so that I'm able to tell you what it is! You must defeat the Dragon in blue while facing the army it commands. Don't worry, the trial spirit has taken note of your conditions and will issue a rest period of about a day. See ya!"
The White Wyvern finished its part and then took off with its four brethren, leaving me immobile and Selene unconscious.
'Ha… ha… so now we wait.' It was awkward, but the silence was calm. Finally getting a chance to truly relax alone while being awake felt nice.
The grey clouds were still present and the world was still kind of grey, but this time it didn't feel tense. Instead, it had more of a calm atmosphere. I guess a calm before the storm if you want to consider the fact that once this period of rest was over, Selene and I would be facing something many times more dangerous.
'I just don't understand this trial, though. Twin Stars... perhaps it's a double inheritance or maybe it deals more with deepening the bond between two. Regardless, I wish there was more infor—Ah.'
I felt my fingers finally listen to my command. I stopped all other thoughts and kept trying to move my body! Needless to say, they felt sore, and that went for my entire body, but I kept going. I couldn't tell the time it took, but for sure in less than an hour, I managed to move to a laying position with my back on the stone and my face looking towards the sky. A way more comfortable position to be in!
'Since I'm stuck here and alone I should take this time to reflect.' My mind naturally wandered to Izanami and her explanation of my abilities. It was time I really came to understand them and my limits.
"You can create anything and even manipulate creation itself. The specifics of your abilities will be True Projection, True Alchemy, and True Transfiguration. The only limit is your understanding of your own creations and creation itself."
'Her words were very clear. The limits of the ability from a technical standpoint is my understanding of the variety of things in creation. Then she mentioned that I couldn't do absurd things without being/having the right amount of mana. Afterwards till now, I've learned the physical limit myself.' I recalled everything that has happened so far since coming to this world.
The limits of my ability were clear.
1. I need both enough mana and control.
Yes, I could forcefully create something or do something, but it caused extreme mental and physical strain even if I didn't notice it.
2. I need to understand how things work.
Thankfully, I came from Earth, which was at its current peak in science and complex reasoning. This lifted a lot of studying and weakness, but I still had room to improve. Plus, I couldn't learn everything or know everything, so the best thing would be to learn the basics and branch out. Thus, I'll need to take a pyramid approach to my abilities—practicing basics and then moving forward to the crazy stuff! Something I already knew but has come to really hit home.
3. Rest.
The body and mind could only be pushed so far, so I'll need to rest and take care of myself until I either become good enough to no longer need as much or just don't need it at all.
'Now about the abilities themselves.' I moved my thoughts to the more specific aspects of my Unique.
"True Projection: Creating an image or taking a thought and manifesting it into reality."
This is the part of my ability I have used the most, but even so, I barely understand its sheer power.
'Wait! Creating an image and manifesting it into reality... perhaps that's why I felt that my magic would auto-correct itself!'
Coming from a rather advanced Earth, I definitely learned a lot, but most things I didn't practice I couldn't replicate on paper or do. However, it was still in my memory. My projections must correct themselves if I have that knowledge in my brain, and since I can manifest whatever I think, it comes out as I intend deep down, then consciously.
"True Alchemy: Combining, breaking down, and re-fusing elements to create a new item or concept."
'I used this along with Projection and Transfiguration to create that spear.'
It was an ability that took more physical practice than anything, so that's all there was to say.
"True Transfiguration: Editing or adjusting existing creations—either ones you've made through Projection and Alchemy or those already present—to improve or alter them."
'Another self-explanatory ability... the only real limit for these three abilities was the extent to which they dealt with me.'
"Hah~" I sighed tiredly. I really wanted to sleep in a bed and eat some good food.
"GRRRR~!" Speaking of... my stomach roared, but I used my willpower to ignore it for now. I couldn't even stand without it hurting, much less go out to get food!
