Chapter 676: HEMOPHAGE has a terrible weakness
...the man had actually just caught his wife cheating on him with his brother before the attack. he felt the man's heart as it felt pain and then it traced even further back to the stress of the farm and so own. All of a sudden, from just the emotions came the feel of the work.
This man had been a farmer. Chiron felt the man use his Cutlass, digger and other farm tools as if he was the one using them by himself.
Chiron raised his hand to his face and he could see and feel it. Like his hand and the man's hand becoming one as the man worked.
And then he suddenly felt a powerful sting from behind him. When chiron turned about, there was no one there, and then he realized that the sting had not been from the physical, but rather from the man's blood.
He was experiencing the man's pain. It had been from a coreless snake. the poison of such a creature could not hurt chiron in any way. in fact, it would not even be able to break through chiron's skin much less dose him with poison.
However, Chiron clearly felt that sting. And it came with pain rushing through his body. This pain, chiron could endure. and it was indeed easy.
But a certain thought was sparked in his head. 'does that mean that I have to experience the man's life in its entirety to be able to get his memories?
As chiron closed his eyes, he observed that it was possible for him to speed up the process of experience and memory absorbtion and so he did it.
As he did, he instantly fell on his back, and his breathing became hard and heavy as sweat pooled underneath him from his skin.
Chiron had heard of the statement to have one's life flash before their own eyes. That was what just happened to him.
When he opened his eyes, he looked at the corpse of the man that he had filled with holes for the sake of his ritual and he could not help but have a silver of pity in his eyes, before he shook his head, driving it away.
Chiron sat crossed legged with his arms folded to his chest. He could not believe what had just happened to him.
Chiron was one to pride himself in the fact that he was a stone cold killer that was ready to do whatever needed to be done in order to survive.
But only moments ago, as he looked at the farmer, he had actually felt pity. It was like he was looking at a mirror and pitied the miserable life he had lived.
Chiron frowned at this. He had all of a sudden discovered the weakness of using the Hemophage skill.
For one to get the memories and skills of the individual, one had to live their entire life through their blood. One had to feel what they felt, know what they know and learn what they learnt through their experiences.
What was terrifying about this was that when he was feeling it all, he was feeling it as the man, and after it all, for a brief second there, he had actually seen himself as the man.
As chiron sat, the question rose in his head. 'Who was a man, or rather, who was MAN?'
Was the man the flesh and bones? Was the man the recognition of his environment; mother, father, siblings, or even his pet. After all, every person was of a different version in the minds of the people around him.
It was all based on the experiences with that person, filtered through our own glorified standard for morals and our own selfish needs, especially at the point of contact.
Meaning that people were not what or who we thought them to be no matter how well we know them. Even a mother is an illusioned fool when it came to their child. The only person that truly knew a person was the the person themself.
And again the question. Who was the man? was the man the flesh and bone or something else.
Chiron now knew the answer first hand. As this experiment had answered questions in his head as well as opened up new ones.
The person was not the perceived flesh and blood, but the some total of the experiences that had filtered through that person into actuality and the roller coaster of emotions and decisions that formed as a result of all those experiences.
This was what was known as the soul. Meaning that the soul was not necessary out of existence when the person was not there, but rather a gather of experiences and interactions with the world around them through the necessity that was flesh and bones.
This descovery was incredible. But that raised yet more questions. After all, it meant that the dead farmer before him was indeed the farmer, and yet it was not. At least, the dead farmer was not just the one before him, but was chiron himself. After all, chiron had similarly just gone through all the years of the man's life in the blink of an idea, and when he looked at him, it was no longer with coldness, but rather a form of warmth and understanding in his eyes.
There was a kind of kindred. As the saying went, 'to put oneself in another's shoes.' And as chiron looked at him, he actually saw himself, and yet, he did not.
No doubt a lot of desicions that this man had made in his life were either selfish or outrightly stupid. But chiron could in a manner understand and relate with them.
And in some cases, he even wanted to help the man.
"SHIT!!!" Chiron cursed as he looked away from the man's corpse and at the same time send a fire ball to burn the man's body up.
This was a bit hard for him to do. But at his core, he was still Chiron, and thankfully, his life expereinces were richer than the man's own and won when it came to his will.
then again, the man had only been in his thirties.
Chiron frowned heavily... This ability, as incredible as it was, was very flawed.
