After dinner with the mother and daughter, we called it quits and retired for the night.

When I read the first alternative, my eyes had gone wide, my mind salivating at the thought of having so many points, though it did deflate a little at the shop's lack of enticements.

Still, I had a strong positive outlook on what the future would bring till my eyes went down and I read the other alternatives, each description making my eyes further widen in disbelief.
