Chapter 268: [Saintess’ Daily Task!]
Everice is the last Saintess of the Goddess of Water. She was on the run from the Kingdom of Water, which was now ruled by the Queen of the Water Kingdom. The reason was that the Goddess of the Water has gone missing for quite a long time, and the Queen has started treating herself as the top authority, beginning to misuse her powers.
Everice, being a devout follower of the Goddess of Water, couldn't accept it and began her journey to have a chance of meeting the other Goddesses in hope of finding her own Goddess.
…
[Saintess of Water: Everice's POV!]
Something is going on in the city.
I looked at the central market bustling with people of all shapes and sizes, each of them carrying an aura that should not be present in humans. While a few of them were humans, there were many that only seemed like humans.
Some of them carried strange darkness within them, engulfing all the light that tried to come in contact with them. From what I have known through the legends, there are only a few beings who have such auras.
'The demons. And so many of them,' I analyzed them for a few more seconds before looking at the other humans around here.
Carrying an aura that was totally opposite of that of the demons, they had such a welcoming bright aura that filled joy in everything that it came in touch with. While, according to the text records, it should not be possible for those 'beings' to be walking among the mortals, looking at the scene in front of me, I believe there is a lot that mortals don't understand about them.
'Angels too, huh?' I mumbled as I looked at them before closing my eyes.
It wasn't just angels and demons, but people with strange dense auras, much more fearsome than either of them, walked in the city. They laughed like humans, mixing themselves among them, while the others had no idea of it.
Their numbers were especially dense near the Neptune's clinic, where they went for treatment of all sorts. And if I remember correctly, not a single main healer of the clinic was a normal human.
I still remember the chills that I felt when that blindfolded girl turned to me and smiled. Her aura was especially deep. It was as if I was looking in the abyss itself.
Something is going to happen in the city. Something big. I could feel it.
(Things are going to be hectic. But if you can help me out with this, I think I can help you with your 'special' quest. I would not ask a lady for a hectic task, so you need not to worry about doing anything dangerous. Though, nonetheless, this simple task is also important for the days to come.)
I recalled the words of Neptune before he showed me a hologram of the Goddess Aqua. And that was what made me forced to stay here in the city that was moving away from the common logic by the minute.
"Saintess. Are you sure we should be staying in this city for another week? This city is giving me a strange indescribable feeling for some reason. I could see my senses being dulled every minute. And because of the strange rules of this city, not being able to use magic for even the basic things is taxing us. We may not be able to fully protect you in case of emergencies," the captain of the guards spoke as he looked at me.
"You can just use mana when the time comes. It's not like you are forbidden to use it. Plus, it's better this way, isn't it? You learn to be dependent upon your body and be extra careful. Things like these will help us in the journey in case we end up in a manaless zone," I answered him.
And to be honest, I liked the atmosphere this city had. The fresh air of the pure mana, and the fact that we hone our own body. I wonder why we never thought of that before?
"And also Saintess. Can we trust that man?" The guard asked, most probably talking about Sir Neptune. And I pondered about his question before answering,
"It's not about trust. He is the only clear direction we have if we want to meet the Goddess. As long as it doesn't become too overbearing, I would like to go along with what he has asked me to do."
"I will follow your orders, Saintess. But please be careful. The human world isn't any better than what he had in our kingdom," my guard spoke as he looked at me with worry. And I nodded at him before moving on to finish my daily task that Neptune has asked me to do.
It was a simple task really.
He gave me a dozen paper arrays of unknown origin and asked me to place it in every corner of the city. Just out of curiosity, I checked them and found that they seem to be capable of holding some form of spirit magic.
But then again…
'It's pretty purposeless given there are no spirits in this place,' I pondered as being a Saintess one of the powers I had was to sense the presence of Spirits, beings that were formed out of Mana. And as I said before, there were none in the city.
Well. It doesn't matter really.
I don't know what he wants to do, but it has really nothing to do with me. And since I can increase a bit of my own mana while connecting with the spirit array, I went ahead and did that too. It was pretty harmless. Doubt that Neptune would mind it as well.

'Don't mind if I take some of the spare spirit mana,' I smiled as I connected with the array before moving on to the next location.
"One array done~ Eleven more to go~" I hummed as I moved forward with the same energy as before.
