RE: The Walking Dead [Zombie LitRPG]

Chapter 66: Chapter Sixty-Six - A Lake Full of Undead

By the main gate of the prison.

"You two just came back, why are you going out again?" Amy questioned while squinting her eyes, then she turned her eyes towards Rosita and continued. "Maybe you're just making an excuse and you're actually planning to smash this woman while out there."

Rosita became slightly embarrassed since she also just realized that it's going to be only two of them this time.

Michael was amused but he wasn't letting her words pass without any consequences and gave her head a smack. "Will you quit it? Just what's going on in that head of yours that you're only thinking of dirty things?"

"But-"

"Enough, we'll be back before sundown."

Michael didn't want to hear anymore from her and immediately shut her down.

"Alright, take care out there." Seeing that there's no chance to change his mind, Amy reluctantly gave up.

"Will do." Michael responded with a solemn look.

So, with a backpack, a mace, a machete and a pistol with two extra magazines, Michael once again stepped foot outside the prison. Rosita, who's also carrying her own backpack while also armed with a pistol and extra magazine and machete, closely followed beside him.

The two didn't say much and just started killing the walkers lingering around the walls, and during this excursion, it made Michael realize that the prison wasn't all that big and he guessed that the size was probably around 10,000 or so square meters.

'So, the walls from the back would start to curve huh. Really different from the TV show where it was just a set.' Michael thought about the front and two sides of the prison walls being linear while the back had a curved wall, forming a semi dome like shape.

"Hey, shall we get going?" Rosita softly called out while wiping the disgusting goo off her machete on the clothes of a "double dead" walker on the ground.

Michael turned to her then back to the direction of the prison. "Yeah. The prison is fairly small, isn't it?"

Standing up, Rosita gazed towards the direction of the prison and responded. "Small? I think this place can at least hold at least a thousand people inside. So no, I don't think it's small at all."

"Well, I have a lot of plans in mind for this place. So, it still seems too small for me." Michael mused to himself.

Listening to his words, Rosita just shrugged her shoulders. "Just add an extension when we have the resources and manpower for it."

"I know. Come on, let's continue on the road." Michael smiled before turning around and started walking towards the forest.

"Do we really need to go the forest though? It's not like those monsters would even find this place while this forest is here. After all, forests are natural sound barriers. We're not really here to do a perimeter check around the forest, right?" Rosita sounded like she was complaining, but she was actually quite curious about the real purpose of their trip today.

Michael glanced back at her and he had this mysterious smile on his face. He didn't say anything in response as he just continued walking while Rosita, realizing she won't be getting any answers today, remained silent.

An hour later.

"Roar!"

Splat!

A walker groaned loudly as it tried to pounce on Michael, but the latter just deftly dodged its attack before swinging the heavy mace on his hand, crushing the walker's head in a sickening, final blow.

"This makes it forty, right?" Michael looked towards Rosita, who's currently busy plucking berries from a thicket of bushes.

"Why are you asking me when you're the one that's been killing them?" Rosita responded with her back turned, and without any pause, continued stuffing berries inside the plastic jar in her hand.

Michael didn't say anything in response and just looked through the following notifications on the [System] while counting them.

'Well, it's exactly forty, and we've covered at least half of the surrounding forest. I guess it's safe to say that the prison is still quite safe.' Michael thought to himself, and with a casual and a sneaky swipe of his hand, he dismissed the holographic screen in front of him, making the glowing display vanish instantly.

"Still dirt poor, but at least we'd never starve during an emergency." Michael mused to himself.

Stuffing the last jar of berries inside her bag, Rosita looked at Michael. "Shall we head back?"

Turning her gazed towards the direction of the sunlight that's growing dim by the minute, she continued. "I think we only have an hour or so of daylight left. It will be dangerous if we do not manage to return before night falls."

"How about we first go check that rushing water I hear before we head back, yeah?" Michael answered.

"Alright. Might as well see it if it's drinkable." Rosita does not have a problem with it and agrees.

Michael and Rosita continued their silent trek while the latter started writing down any edible flora she sees along the way on her little notebook she brought.

Then suddenly, she frowned, Michael did too. They smelled the scent of something rotting ahead of them.

The two continued along the way, more cautious this time. Rosita stuffed her notebook inside her bra and pulled out her machete from its sheath and stuck closer to Michael.

Eventually, the two soon reached the location where the rotting scent was coming from.

It was a small lake.

It would have been a good find since it's going to be a good source of food and fresh water, but not the lake before their eyes.

"F*ck." Michael cursed under his breath. He felt disgusted and horrified at the sight before them. The lake had numerous floating dead bodies, there's even bodies stuck on the mud along the riverbanks.

Rosita covered her nose with her hand and leered towards the lake. "We seriously need to immediately build that well you were talking about earlier."

Michael shook his head, he does not think that idea is feasible now. "No, this place is too close to the prison. The groundwater is possibly contaminated now."

"What? But the remaining water in the tanks would be gone in at most a week or two." Rosita responded in a grim and worried tone.

Michael looked at her and responded with slightly amazement in his tone. "Wow, you just arrived not long ago, but you already have such crucial information in your hands.?

Rosita shrugged her shoulders. "Sorry, it's a habit since I was the one constantly keeping an eye on our resources when my brother was still alive."

"It's fine, and I already have another idea. So that Well we're planning to build is still on the table" Michael paused.

"And?" Rosita impatiently asked.

"Distillation." Michael turned his eyes away from the lake and to her. "Let's build a simple distiller."

"Uhh, That's actually a great idea. Also, I noticed the roofs do not have gutters. Why don't we install it on every roof to capture rainwater more effectively? Then we'll build a pipeline to capture any rainwater coming from the gutters into a large tank." Rosita offered a very good idea. It made Michael feel amazed with her idea.

"That..that's actually a very great idea. Come on, let's head back. So, we can discuss this further with them."

Following those words, the duo hastened their pace since they only have a short daylight left to reach home.

While the two are making their way back, a familiar car just pulled up to the prison.

"Andrea! You don't believe who just came back!"

When she spotted the familiar car while hanging out by the campfire beside the garden, Amy hurriedly made her way over to the front gate with Jill and a few same-aged people in tow.

"Is he finally back?" Andrea didn't even need Amy to tell her who it is and immediately figured it out just from her sister's words and how excited she is.

"Yeah, and she brought back this sexy chick with him." Amy responded with an eyeroll.

Feeling excited, she threw the car keys to T-Dawg and eagerly asked. "Is he inside then?"

"He's out, again. Rosita went with him. He told me that they were just going to check the forest for any dangerous elements. Though I just don't know how much truth was there in those words. Maybe, they were already f*cking each other like animals inside." Amy shrugged her shoulders while casually painting Michael and Rosita in a bad light.

Smack!

"Shut up!" Knowing her sister tends to exaggerate things, Andrea gave her head a good smack while feeling amused.
