Chapter 45
The day after the coming-of-age ceremony, Chu Muxi received a call from Chu Tianhao. His expression was furious as he angrily confronted Chu Muxi.
“What’s the matter with you? You didn’t inform me about such a significant event as the coming-of-age ceremony dinner. Do you no longer consider me your father?”
Glancing at Chu Tianhao’s location, it appeared that he had returned to the Central Star, though not at home but in the company office.
“Father, I tried calling you, but the connection was temporarily unavailable,” Chu Muxi explained, having verified that Chu Tianhao couldn’t receive his communication request.
Chu Tianhao was taken aback; he had indeed forgotten about the ceremony in those few days. He did go to another mistress, where the signal was intermittent but the environment was relaxing. It was an attempt to avoid the Central Star media.
Regrettably, he missed Chu Muxi’s coming-of-age ceremony. Although he didn’t prioritize this son, he had intended to use the event to discuss the resource star with Shen Wu and strengthen ties with the Shen family partners during the dinner.
Especially upon learning that even Yue Mingjue attended Chu Muxi’s ceremony dinner, he felt immediate remorse.
“Even if I didn’t go, what about your stepmother and sister? They’re still your family. Why didn’t you let them attend?” Chu Tianhao asked, still dissatisfied.
Chu Muxi sneered inwardly but feigned embarrassment, saying, “Father, it’s not that I didn’t want Aunt Hui and my eldest sister to attend. As you know, Grandpa has prejudices against them. The attendees were all from Grandpa’s side. I planned to invite them, but my eldest brother’s recent troubles caused a commotion in the Central Star. If Aunt Hui and my eldest sister attended, it would bring unnecessary attention.”
Chu Muxi intentionally left his sentence unfinished, conveying his point clearly. While he didn’t mind, he considered the potential consequences for Chu Tianhao, who seemed to be hiding away for a reason.
Chu Tianhao attributed the current issues to his eldest son and grew more dissatisfied with He Hui and her son. He felt hindered rather than supported by them.
Chu Muxi coquettishly said, “Father, don’t be upset. The ceremony is from Grandpa, whom I don’t even know. I mentioned the resource star to him, and he agreed to transfer it to me. He didn’t agree to selling it at a low price to you, though. Grandpa has some misunderstandings about you, and if I insisted more, he might have given it to someone else. I had to agree and transfer ownership to me.”
“Really?” Chu Tianhao’s dissatisfaction dissipated at the mention of the resource star, and his attention shifted. “Did Grandpa really say that?”
“Yes, but he didn’t agree to sell it cheap. Grandpa is stubborn and has misconceptions about you. If I pushed further, he might have accused me of being too close with you. I had no choice but to agree and transfer ownership to myself,” Chu Muxi explained, expressing his limitations.
Chu Tianhao considered it and found Chu Muxi’s remarks reasonable. Amidst his troubles with Chu Mubei, this one good son allowed him to regain some fatherly dignity.
The reports indeed indicated a serious dispute between Shen Wu and Chu Muxi, lasting a long time in the study. Eventually, Chu Muxi agreed to let Shen Wu host the dinner, leading to his victory in obtaining the resource star.
Unbeknownst to him, all the tips he received had already been replaced by others.
The quarrel between Shen Wu and Chu Muxi was intentionally staged for Chu Tianhao to witness.
“Okay, but Muxi, don’t take this lightly. Managing a resource star is not simple. The rental fee alone is substantial. Your grandpa won’t cover it for you, will he?” Chu Tianhao warned.
Chu Muxi, pretending to be angry, replied, “Exactly, Father! I don’t even know why Grandpa insists on transferring ownership to me. Do I have the money to manage it myself? I think he did it on purpose, and eventually, I’ll have to ask him for money.”
Chu Tianhao playfully scolded him, “Don’t speak like that to your elders, you silly boy. Dad will provide the money when the time comes, so don’t worry.”
He seemed in a jovial mood, suggesting he had been enjoying his days.
Chu Muxi expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you, Father! After the ownership transfer, I’ll give the resource star to you. I really can’t handle an entire planet.”
Chu Tianhao chuckled, “No need to rush, or your grandpa might think I’m swindling your planet.”
Chu Muxi rolled his eyes, “He just overthinks things.”
Pleased with Chu Muxi’s response, Chu Tianhao considered giving him a lesson, saying, “Remember, I warned you not to think poorly of your grandpa. Be good.”
“I know, Father. Are you coming home today? I’ve been stuck at Grandpa’s house for the past two days, and it’s almost driving me crazy. There are so many restrictions.” Chu Muxi feigned dissatisfaction.
“Stay with your grandpa for a couple of days and avoid upsetting him,” Chu Tianhao advised. “I have some matters to attend to in the next two days, but I’ll visit you later.”
“Oh—” Chu Muxi appeared reluctant and said, “Father, please come back soon. I miss you.”
Chu Tianhao had other children, but they never expressed missing him with such a soft tone. Most sought money or gifts. It was only Chu Muxi who spoke in this coquettish manner, making him recall the cute moments when his son was little, soft and adorable, clinging to him and calling him daddy.
Now, it was just “father,” but Chu Tianhao felt a rare tenderness, saying, “Muxi, are you feeling separated from your father right now?”
“No? Father, why would you say that?” Chu Muxi asked in surprise.
“It’s nothing.” The fleeting softness was overshadowed by the impending wealth. Chu Tianhao grinned casually, “Remember, I still care about you. After all, you’re my son. We share the same surname, you know?”
Chu Muxi nodded earnestly, “I remember, Father.”
Satisfied, Chu Tianhao ended the call.
