Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse

Chapter 190: Rescue

“This is too cool!”

Watching the originally dominant group of zombies being slaughtered by these people until only a scattered few dozen remained, Jian Zongzheng and others almost dropped their weapons to applaud them.

They had thought they were quite formidable themselves, but these people seemed a hundred times more so!

Lin Xiuyuan had already dealt with the Fire Element Zombie and joined the fight.

He discovered that Level Two Ice-based was indeed much more powerful than Level One, his special ability power had more than doubled!

“Mom no longer has to worry about me running out of special abilities,” Lin Xiuyuan thought happily.

In his pride, he had already frozen several zombies that were lunging at him and then simultaneously controlled three Ice Spikes, stabbing them!

The Ice Spikes plunged into the zombies’ temples, emitting dull thuds, and three zombies fell backward.

Lu Guanhai stood beside Mao Qiqi, using Fireballs to clear the zombies that were circling from behind, to prevent her from being caught.

The zombies on the street decreased from hundreds to dozens, to a handful, until they were all cleaned up.

“Did we actually survive?!”

Yin Qiu incredulously looked at the bodies of zombies all over the ground and said.

“It’s because we were lucky to be saved,” Anna said, her eyes growing more fervent as she looked at Su Jin and others, realizing that heroines from martial arts novels indeed existed!

“Thank you!”

Jian Zongzheng and others bowed deeply to Su Jin, Lu Hao, and their group.

They were surviving students from a nearby university, previously trapped within the school since it was filled with zombies, making it impossible for rescue teams to penetrate.

The group honed their skills in using their special abilities and killing zombies while collecting all the edible stuff in the school, until almost a month later when food was almost depleted and their powers had sufficiently increased, they dared to fight their way out.

They originally planned to head for the Survivor Shelter they heard on the broadcast, but the journey was fraught with difficulties, and today they even encountered a Mutated Power Element Zombie, losing a companion and their vehicle was destroyed by that zombie.

After exhausting all their efforts to deal with that Mutated Zombie, the surrounding zombies were attracted, thinking they had no chance of survival, unexpectedly divine intervention rescued them.

After all, the events of the past month had made them see the true nature of people; they had also separated from a group originally comprising dozens of classmates, walking till today relied on mutual trust.

And today, these strangers actually risked their lives to save them!

Indeed, there are still selfless good people in this world!

“If you want to thank us, help us collect these zombies’ Crystal Cores,”

A pleasant female voice came over, as the pretty Wood Element girl smiled at them.

Su Jin felt that since she had saved their lives, asking them to help collect Crystal Cores was completely reasonable!

The ones already moved to tears were suddenly stunned.

What happened to not asking for anything in return?

At that moment, Anna burst out laughing.

This beautiful girl named Su Jin was really interesting; she hadn’t seen someone so straightforward in a long time.

Jian Zongzheng and the others laughed as well, then they quickly went over to the bodies of the zombies lying around, diligently searching for Crystal Cores, not missing any zombie body.

Even Zhang Xiaoai, who had injured his leg, was squatting on the ground, poking the heads of nearby zombies searching around.

Nie Qing looked at these young people and continuously nodded his head, thinking that these youngsters still had some conscience!

Although they were very tired, no one complained when it was time to pick up the crystal cores. Soon, they handed them all over to Jian Zongzheng who found a bag, put the crystal cores in it, and passed it to Su Jin.

“Is your companion injured?” Su Jin asked as she took the crystal cores.

“Yes, she was accidentally cut by glass,”

Apparently fearing that Su Jin might suspect that Xiaoai was infected, Jian Zongzheng quickly explained with a smile.

The smile on Jian Zongzheng’s face reminded Su Jin of Xia Mufei; when she was injured, Xia Mufei had also explained it to his teammates like this, but none of them were willing to let them get on the vehicle…

Lu Hao’s expression darkened slightly, realizing Su Jin might be thinking of something again, so he approached to change the subject, “Where do you plan to go next?”

“To the refuge. Are you guys also from there?” Yin Qiu replied.

Lin Xiuyuan looked at these young people of his own age and said, “Alas, you guys are really behind on the news. Everyone is starting to build bases now. You might as well go directly to the safe base from here.”

A base?

There was still a base?

Seeing their expressions, Lin Xiuyuan guessed they definitely didn’t know about the base, so he told them about its approximate location. Since it was closer to go to the base from here than to the refuge, they decided to go directly to the base Lin Xiuyuan mentioned to check it out.

Seeing that they were about to leave, Su Jin curiously asked, “You’re walking?”

“Our car was smashed by zombies,” Jian Zongzheng said helplessly.

“Then why don’t you drive these cars here?” Lin Xiuyuan continued to ask.

Although the cars on the roadside all had varying degrees of damage, most of them should be operable with the metal element ability, but these people were intending to walk to the base. It couldn’t be what he was thinking, could it?

“We don’t have the keys,”

Zhang Xiaoai was also puzzled. Without a key, the cars couldn’t be started. Did these two not understand that?

“So you don’t know how to make a key with the metal element ability to unlock it?” Su Jin’s words left Jian Zongzheng stunned for quite some time.

Metal element ability? Unlocking?

And with the way Su Jin mentioned it so matter-of-factly, he was even more confused. Could it be a basic skill of the metal element that he simply didn’t know about?

Jian Zongzheng tried using the metal element ability on a random SUV by the roadside and, to his surprise, the vehicle actually started!

At that moment, Jian Zongzheng felt as if he had opened the door to a whole new world…

“My God, Jian, you have such a useful ability and you didn’t use it, letting me run that far!” the sweatshirt-wearing Chen Yun said.

Anna and the others had just been joyful for a while; now they recalled how hard they had been chased by zombies and how they had struggled just to find the keys to start a car.

In an instant, they didn’t know whether to cry or laugh.

Su Jin turned and took a small package of gauze and bandages out of the armored car and handed it to Anna, saying, “Before you go, bandage her up first.”

“Thank you. Will we be able to meet again?” Anna asked.

“If you can stay alive until the base, then yes,”

After saying this, Su Jin turned and got into the car.

Watching the formidable armored car disappear from their sight, they finally got into the car, preparing to follow the route they had just discussed.

It would be nice to meet again…
