Chapter 188 - 188 Who's Sick?
Chapter 188: Chapter 188 Who’s Sick?
Amidst the fluttering flowers and willows, the three quickly arrived at Linjiang Pavilion.
Perhaps it was the silver that did the trick, for they were assigned a prime window seat.
Sitting and dining, they could enjoy the beautiful scenery outside.
During the meal, Qu Wei took the lead in ordering saltwater duck and added a few local Dongjiang specialties to the mix, then let Qi Yue choose.
“Yueyue, see what else you’d like to eat, feel free to order.”
Seeing that the table was already full, Qi Yue ordered a dish of shrimp pastry dumplings and passed the menu to Mrs. Zhang.
“Shrimp pastry dumplings?” Qu Wei asked with a puzzled face, “Yueyue, what kind of dish is that? I’ve never even heard of it.”
Qi Yue was taken aback.
“I don’t know either, but it should be delicious just by the name!”
Of course, she had heard of it before,
and she knew it should be eaten with a special sauce.
Zhao Xiyan had mentioned this dish to her in conversation before,
saying that during his early years of wandering study in Dongjiang, he had eaten it and couldn’t forget it for many years.
Just now, she had unconsciously ordered this dish.
The omnipresent Zhao Xiyan…
She sighed inwardly.
Soon enough, various dishes were served.
The shrimp pastry dumplings were indeed just as Zhao Xiyan said, the sauce was just the same too.
Qi Yue had one, then didn’t reach for more.
Though the dumplings were delicious, with each one she ate, she was reminded of the way Zhao Xiyan had talked about this dish,
a man of otherworldly poise, his smile warm and bright.
His eyes shimmered faintly, weaving through the air like clouds, enveloping her bit by bit, filling up her entire heart.
“Yueyue, you have good taste, these dumplings are really good.”
Qu Wei talked nonstop while enjoying his meal.
Qi Yue glared at him, “Don’t talk while eating.”
Qu Wei chuckled and silently offered her another dumpling.
Qi Yue frowned and returned the favor, instead taking a piece of duck for herself.
The saltwater duck from Linjiang Pavilion really was excellent, tender and sweet to the taste, every bite making one salivate profusely, nearly swallowing one’s tongue to feel satisfied.
“The dumplings are good, Yueyue, aren’t you eating?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“…” Qi Yue was at a loss for words.
As they ate, several more diners arrived on the third floor, and almost all ordered the saltwater duck.
“Table 2, saltwater duck coming up….”
“Table 6, two plates of saltwater duck….”
As several magnetic calls rang out, the third floor immediately buzzed with excitement.
“The duck today is good, even better than last time.”
“Indeed, this trip wasn’t in vain.”
Two voices caught Qi Yue’s attention, and she couldn’t help but glance at the man at the upper right hand corner, her gaze suddenly tightening.
Around forty-five years old, there was a dark patch at the intersection where the outer corner of the eye met the middle of the right ear, along with scattered dark moles on the right ear itself.
Such severe kidney stone symptoms, without needing to look at the other side of his face, she was already a hundred percent sure.
After the man finished a piece of duck and downed a cup of wine, still seeming unsatisfied, he took another piece and put it in his mouth.
Seeing this, she shook her head and sighed.
Qu Wei, noticing her unusual expression, followed her gaze and looked again.
“What is it, Yueyue?”
“Nothing, just eat your food!”
“If it’s nothing, why do you keep staring at that old man? Aren’t I a bit better-looking than him?”
Qi Yue snorted, “Then you should feel lucky, being stared at by a doctor isn’t a good omen!”
Qu Wei’s eyes rolled.
“You mean that person is sick?”
“Hmm.”
Qu Wei stretched his neck, his face full of surprise.
“What sickness? You can tell without taking his pulse?”
“When I looked at your head, did I even take your pulse?” Qi Yue gave him a side glance.
As soon as she mentioned his head, Qu Wei immediately thought of that bottle filled with white and black bugs, which suddenly made him lose his appetite.
“Sister, can we not talk about this?”
“Sure.” Qi Yue smiled.
Qu Wei lost his interest in eating, but his curiosity about the man’s illness intensified.
“Sister, what illness does that man have, is it the same as mine?”
“Not the same.” Qi Yue lightly shook her head, “He is more serious than you but also not that serious.”
“What kind of answer is that?”
Qi Yue pondered for a moment.
“If not treated promptly, at most five or six years, at least two or three.”
“Ah, that serious!” Qu Wei exclaimed in shock.
Just as Qi Yue was about to tell him not to blurt out nonsense, a hand suddenly appeared on the table.
“Slap!”
“What are you talking about? Who’s ill!” A voice as resonant as a great bell erupted next to the three of them.
Startled, the three of them turned their heads in unison.
The man was tall, around forty years old, with a dark reddish complexion, clearly a rough and tumble sort of fellow who likely had a quick temper that led to fisticuffs.
Qi Yue’s lips twitched.
She hated dealing with this kind of person the most.
The sort where you can’t reason with them no matter what.
“Big brother, we were just talking about him.” Qi Yue pointed at Qu Wei, “He has an illness. He had a lump on his head before, and after it was cured, he started speaking nonsense. Please don’t take it to heart.”
The tall man clearly didn’t believe her and glared fiercely at Qu Wei, gruffly saying, “If you’re ill, then don’t spout nonsense, understand?”
Qu Wei, unused to such treatment, was about to get physical with a flick of his fan, but Qi Yue quickly held him back.
“He understands, look, he’s stopped talking.”
At this point, the man with spots on his face also came over to mediate.
Qi Yue seized the chance to look at his left cheek, which was indeed just as she had diagnosed.
This man’s kidney stones were already very serious, and it wouldn’t be long before he’d suffer a urinary tract infection.
But she couldn’t say this to his face.
The fear of doctors was a common affliction among all people.
Especially since he had no idea he was ill, if she were to bluntly say “you’re sick,” it might well result in a beating.
Although she was confident she wouldn’t be at a disadvantage, her purpose in coming to Dongjiang was not to cause trouble, so it was better to avoid creating issues!
Moreover, the man with the spotty face didn’t seem ordinary.
He was wearing a brocade robe that suggested a significant presence, decorated with a band of brocade at the waist, inlaid with gold and jade, and it was fastened with a special Qilin buckle.
Such a belt was only worn by officials.
What did his illness have to do with her? She had no desire to be involved with these officials in the slightest.
Eventually, the tall man, his dignity intact, gave them a haughty glance and went back to his duck-eating.
It was clear that he was friends with the spotty-faced man and likely heard Qu Wei’s and her discussion, which was what prompted his heated reaction.
Seeing that they had almost finished their meal, Qi Yue hurriedly pulled Qu Wei away to leave.
Qu Wei still felt indignant and murmured to the two men as they were leaving, “Still eating duck when you’re ill, don’t come looking for us if you’re sick.”
Upon hearing this, the tall man leapt up, ready to fight, but the spotty-faced man held him back and whispered something, and the two resumed their merry duck eating and drinking.
Qu Wei was angry because Qi Yue held him back, and he remained irritated all the way back to where they were staying.
“Yueyue, why did you stop me? And you said I was sick!”
“Aren’t you sick?” Qi Yue pointed at him up and down with her finger, “You can’t even eat a meal without causing a scene; if that’s not illness, what is? Didn’t you realize? That sick person doesn’t look like he’s ordinary.”
After Qi Yue’s reminder, Qu Wei also remembered.
“You suspect he is an official?”
“It’s not suspicion; it’s certain, and his rank is not low either.”
Qu Wei suddenly got excited.
“That’s great then, if you cure him, we can strut around Dongjiang with pride.”
“And you say you aren’t sick, as if you can just cure any disease?”
Qu Wei instantly understood and smiled meaningfully.
“I hope they eat duck every day, fall ill sooner, and then I’ll definitely… hehehe…”
Qi Yue gave Qu Wei a disapproving glance.
She was beginning to wonder if agreeing to bring Qu Wei to Dongjiang was a mistake in itself!
