Reborn As A Bastard Child: Woah! I'm Super Overpowered

Chapter 21: Searching for a cozy little corner to take a nap

The arched doorway of the left hall begrudgingly yawned open to reveal a grand corridor, carpeted in a royal red from end-to-end, with locked doors left and right.

Apparently, Raven had to collect keys to open these doors.

Well never mind the keys.

Just when the system had begun informing Raven of the location of the keys, it found Raven marching up to the first door. Raven landed a solid punch on the wooden frame with almost 50% of his strength.

Voila! The door did not budge.

The system promptly responded with an eye roll and 'I told you so'.

Raven did not falter.

He punched again, this time with 80% of his strength.

The wood beneath his fist creaked, but did not give away.

The system let out a small sigh.

Raven was unperturbed. When his third fist connected, he did not bother controlling his strength anymore.

This time, a large crack appeared on the wooden frame, signifying that it would not take it very long to completely break apart.

With a satisfied smirk on his lips, Raven continued his attack on the poor door and was soon rewarded for his patience.

With a final bang, the wooden door broke into splinters, each shard flying backwards inside the room at an alarming speed, kicking up a storm of dust in the process.

Raven, carried on by the momentum of his own punch, stumbled into the room , coughing softly as some of the dust entered his nostrils and kicked up a ruckus there.

As the dust settled in, Raven found himself standing in a vast library.

As soon as he made his presence known, torched lighted up, their purplish flames dancing up and down, casting eerie shadows in the room.

The room smelled heavily of yellowed papers and old books, a comfortable scent typical to libraries.

Shelves lined up the walls, each filled with stacks of books arranged meticulously according to a variety of subjects.

The system estimated that it would take it an entire day to transfer all the knowledge this library held to Raven's mind, without the latter encountering the slightest discomfort and without any ado, went to work.

Meanwhile Raven was free to roam about inside the room, and soon his gaze landed upon a carefully placed crystal on the desk at the centre of the room.

Curious, he shuffled towards it and touched the crystal, intending to pick it up and take a closer look.

But fate seemed to have other plans.

As soon as Raven touched the crystal, it shimmied in a dark golden hue, and surprisingly, made a tiny scratch on Raven's finger.

A drop of Raven's blood mingled with the crystal's surface, before slowly getting absorbed inside.

The tiny scratch on Raven's finger healed up.

But after that, something even more surprising happened.

A realistic three dimensional hologram flickered into existence in front of Raven's disbelieving eyes.

==========

The hologram was a spitting image of Raven himself, only much taller, broader and mature. It took Raven a second to understand that he was standing in front of Balthazar Ralph Ignaz's Will or consciousness.

Balthazar Ralph Ignaz stared at Raven in a silent piercing gaze.

Suddenly Raven encountered a gnawing discomfort, as if in front of the sharp gaze of the consciousness of a legendary figure, he was standing naked, with all his memories and experiences of this life and the previous coming undone for this ancestor to feed upon.

A tensed hush fell, broken only by Raven's erratic breathing.

It was the projection of Balthazar Ralph Ignaz's will who spoke first.

" I suppose I should congratulate you who are skulking behind the empty vessel of my kin, for successfully making it this far.

But it seems your case isn't really one of possession or merging, hmm... it's curious. It seems my descendant's soul had split into two long ago and became one again only after the vessel the stronger strand of the soul was inhabiting.

I wonder how this came to be?"

With an almost imperceptible shake of head, Balthazar Ralph Ignaz's Will severed its connection with the crystal, seemingly having found something better to do.

Raven, after a moment of staring incredulously at the crystal, hurled the poor piece of spirit stone into his system inventory and went about searching for a comfortable corner to take a small nap.
