Chapter 1255: Emeraldine's "Family"
-----
While Jonathan's "family" was very lively and energetic, and also very talkative, it was the complete opposite for Emeraldine's family. Although they were perhaps even richer than Jonathan's "family" they were not even half as charismatic, if anything, they were incredibly serious.
Within this world, Emeraldine only had two parents and one younger brother, both of them were a bit similar to her, they were tall, slender elves, with rather beautiful, yet very serious faces. Their eyes seemed to always be incredibly focused, and their expressionlessness was very awkward.
"…"
Emeraldine was slightly nervous as she glanced at them eat in silence, there was not even a single conversation going on. Her father a tall man with a slender face and long white hair looked down at his food and ate silently.
His sharp azure eyes would sometimes wander around his family then go back to his food… although he began to notice Emeraldine's reactions and quickly glared at her. Stay updated with My Virtual Library Empire
"Emeraldine… Why haven't you eaten your food? Is there something upsetting you?"
"E-Eh? Ah… No, it's… I'm fine."
"Hmm."
Her father continued eating without saying anything else, and Emeraldine also decided to just eat. The food was mostly a lot of salad with tons of different veggies nicely seasoned with olive oil and other sauces. There was also some grilled and smoked fish and rice.
"It's good though… I love eating a lot of salad," Emeraldine still enjoyed the food.
Her "mother" glanced at her eating with a slightly strange expression in her face, rising an eyebrow as if Emeraldine was some sort of freak.
"Emeraldine."
"Huh? Y-Yes?!"
"Where are your manners? You're eating like a pig; do you want to choke on your own food? Eat slowly. Were you that hungry?"
"S-So mean!" Emeraldine cried. "Did you had to be so mean? I didn't do anything wrong…"
"W-Wha…?" her mother was shocked over her daughter's words. "Emeraldine, what did you just say right now?"
"That you were mean?" Emeraldine asked.
"H-How can you even say such a thing! When did I teach you to ever speak back like that?!" her mother asked increasingly more furious.
"But it was mean," said Emeraldine, looking concerned. "Okay, I'm sorry."
"Hmph…" her mother sighed, looking elsewhere.
"What's wrong with this weird family?" Emeraldine wondered.
Remembering her uncle and the family they had, this never happened, in fact they always laughed and were very open. Being taught things such as manners wasn't even in their vocabulary or culture.
However, the elves of this world were completely different, focusing too much on things like these, which never really mattered.
Then Emeraldine glanced at her brother, a young boy that almost looked like her, he was very cute and beautiful, almost angelic in appearance.
His long hair only reached his neck, but his bright eyes made him look like a cherubin or something.
"So this is my "brother", huh? So cute…" Emeraldine smiled lightly. "I wish I had a brother back then, like Maria has Arthur and he's also cute…"
Although Emeraldine didn't like men, she would always find young boys adorable, and her maternal instincts would sometimes emerge. She patted her belly lightly.
"I hope our baby can be a boy too…" she sighed.
As she ate and simply endured her family, she looked into her house with more detail, the entire house resembled a beautiful white temple.
From what she had investigated so far, her family belonged to some sort of group of "Priests of Dreams" a new religion that was all about Dreams, which were like a new God.
This God of Dreams which had no name and simply was referred as "Dreams" or "The Lord of Dreams" was seen as a guardian and protector against the Evil Nightmares.
In a way, it made some kind of sense as the Nightmares were constantly trying to destroy humanity while Dream Hearts and Dream Weapons actively protected humanity.
Therefore, a separation between Dreams (Good) and Nightmares (Bad) was formed, and this separation was further cemented through society and even formed a religion around it.
Because all of these supernatural incidents were real nobody could argue the religion wasn't real or something as it was directly based no natural phenomena everyone could see.
However, Emeraldine still found this "deification" of Dream Warriors rather weird, she had even investigated something regarding the elves, a subspecies of humans born from the exposure to Soot with great affinity with Magic and that often have Spiritual Dream Weapons, and how they were seen as saints.
"So technically this is a cult, huh?" she wondered. "And my family are all branded as saints of this cult, even me perhaps? Although when we're alone, we barely speak… such a strange family. If not a bit suspicious. I'll have to keep my ears open for anything weird I could hear-"
"Well, anyways, I'm done," her "father" said, as he finished eating. "Thank you for the meal. I should get going to my office. There's more paperwork I must get done. Soon we'll be having an official meeting and Emeraldine will be branded as a Saint of Dreams."
"Huh? Me?!" Emeraldine gasped.
"What with that reaction?" her "father" sighed. "Of course it's you, we've talked this before and you agreed without any problems. I thought you weren't going to object against it?"
"But what's the point of becoming… a saint?" wondered Emeraldine.
Technically she was already a saint though, the tree of Yggdrasil had chosen her as some sort of Saint back in her original world. So becoming yet another saint here might even be… rather sacrilegious.
"What's the point?" her father wondered. "Hm, you might have been too focused on your studies if you can't remember. It means you'll advance in our cult and get more people to believe even harder. Use your charms and beauty, my daughter. You'll be able to make many join, especially young, wealthy men."
"Ah…" Emeraldine muttered, feeling even worse than before. "This is ridiculous… I'm going back to my room."
"Just remember that your ritual is in two more days!" her father said, as Emeraldine ignored his words and simply walked back to her room.
She jumped over her bed and placed her face over the pillow, screaming into it so nobody could hear her.
"What in the world is wrong with this weird family?!"
