Chapter 72: Absolute part 3
Darkseid stood tall, his crimson gaze still locked onto the heavens where William had been launched moments ago. The aftershock of his strike still lingered in the air, the battlefield trembling in its wake. But he did not dwell on it. His focus shifted downward, toward the broken Kryptonian at his feet.
Superman barely managed to push himself up, his body weak, trembling. His footing faltered as he tried to retreat, but the uneven terrain betrayed him—
He tripped.
And before he could react, a massive shadow engulfed him.
Darkseid loomed above, his monstrous form blotting out the dim light of Apokolips' burning sky. The New God's expression was unreadable, but his eyes burned with something beyond mere contempt, this was personal.
"You know…" Darkseid began, his voice a deep rumble that sent shivers down Superman's spine. "You have been a thorn in my side for a long time now."
Before Superman could react, Darkseid's colossal hand shot forward, fingers wrapping around the Kryptonian's throat.
"GHK!" Superman choked, his hands grasping at the iron grip around his neck as Darkseid lifted him effortlessly off the ground, bringing him to face level. The sheer strength behind the grip was unbearable, his already battered body unable to resist.
"I thought I should return the favor."
A cruel smirk tugged at the corners of Darkseid's lips. He raised his free hand, and with a simple wave of his fingers—
A sickening sensation pulsed through Superman's body.
His missing arm, regrew.
Muscle, tissue, and bone reconstructed themselves in an instant, the Omega Effect bending reality itself to restore what had been lost. For a fleeting moment, Superman almost felt relief, almost.
Then he saw the smile widen.
"I can't have you bleeding out before I beat you to death."
Darkseid's fist clenched.
And then it fell.
"BOOM!"
The first punch slammed into Superman's face with world-breaking force, sending a shockwave rippling through the battlefield.
"BOOM!"
The second blow came before Superman even had time to recoil, his head snapping backward from the sheer impact. His vision blurred, stars flashing before his eyes.
"BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!"
Each strike was a calculated act of cruelty. A hammering, ceaseless punishment.
Superman's body jerked violently under the assault, yet something unnatural was occurring, his wounds, his broken bones, his torn flesh, were healing almost instantly. The Omega Effect ensured it.
This wasn't just a beating.
It was torture.
Darkseid was keeping him alive, forcing him to endure every ounce of pain, ensuring that no matter how much his body broke, it would be rebuilt, only to be shattered again.
Superman's cries of agony barely escaped his lips. Blood dripped from his mouth, his consciousness flickering like a dying ember, until suddenly—
A light descended from the heavens.
A golden streak of energy, moving faster than logic should allow.
And then—
"BOOM!"
A concentrated sphere of ki, burning with unfathomable energy, smashed into Darkseid's face like the wrath of a collapsing sun. The force of the impact was cataclysmic, sending a violent shockwave rippling across the battlefield.
Darkseid was ripped from his stance, his grip on Superman instantly breaking as his massive form was hurled backward, skidding across the molten wasteland.
Superman, though caught in the aftershock, was sent flying in the opposite direction, his body tumbling until he crashed against the crumbling ruins of a fortress wall. His battered form lay still, barely conscious, but finally, free from Darkseid's grasp.
The battlefield fell into a moment of eerie silence.
Then—
Darkseid's burning red eyes snapped open.
He looked up.
And he saw them.
A fleet of Iron-Man-like constructs hovered in formation above him, their metallic bodies gleaming against the burning sky. But these were no ordinary suits.
Each construct thrummed with pure energy, not arc reactor power, but something far more volatile. Ki surged through their cores, the energy pulsing like miniature stars contained within their frames. Their hands were raised in unison, golden circuits glowing as they gathered overwhelming power into their palms.
Darkseid barely had time to react.
"WHOOSH!"
A symphony of destruction was unleashed.
Blinding beams of pure ki erupted downward in a cascade of searing light.
Each stream of energy cut through the atmosphere with unrelenting force, illuminating the battlefield in bursts of gold and white as the sheer magnitude of the combined Unibeam rained down upon Darkseid and the ruins below.
The warlord's gaze darkened.
"ROAAAR!"
Darkseid's roar shattered the air, his voice a sound of primal fury that echoed across the battlefield. His body moved like a storm as he spun his massive God Slayer spear in a blur of motion, the weapon creating a nearly impenetrable barrier against the barrage of energy beams that rained down upon him. Each swing deflected the incoming blasts with terrifying precision, but even a New God like him could not escape unscathed.
"CRACK!"
A few beams managed to break through his defenses, striking his limbs with searing force, sending ripples of pain through his form. But he endured, his body naturally healing from the wounds, his rage undeterred.
Superman, however, was not so fortunate.
The Man of Steel tried to dodge, his every movement a desperate attempt to escape the storm of energy, but the beams came too fast. One after another, they slammed into him, battering his already broken form.
"AHHH!"
Superman's screams were cut off as blood poured from his mouth, his body battered and bruised, his once unbreakable will beginning to falter.
Then, as suddenly as the barrage had started, it ceased.
A brief moment of relief washed over the battlefield, the air heavy with the sounds of crackling energy and groaning earth. Both Darkseid and Superman took a deep breath, their chests rising and falling with exhaustion.
But for Superman, that brief respite was shattered by a terrible feeling.
A gut-wrenching, bone-deep sensation of something worse coming.
Before he could react, it was too late.
A powerful grip seized the back of his neck, lifting him off the ground with brutal force. Superman's body tensed, panic flaring in his chest as a foot pressed against his back, crushing him down.
"AAHHHH!"
The scream tore through the air as he was lifted further, the pressure on his neck intensifying. He turned his head, straining against the unbearable weight, and his eyes met a demonic smile, the twisted expression of William.
"SHK!"
The sound was sickening, the tearing of flesh as William's grip tightened around Superman's neck. Muscles and tendons snapped like wet twine, and an endless spray of steaming blood erupted from the open wound.
"AHHHHH!"
Superman's eyes burned with desperation, his hands grasping at William's, firing heat vision with whatever strength he could muster. But it was no use. William ignored the desperate attempts, his gaze cold and focused as he continued his slow, merciless pull.
The agony was unbearable.
"CRACK!"
With a sickening sound that echoed across the battlefield, Superman's neck snapped. The world seemed to stop for a moment, the silence after the sound of breaking bone almost deafening.
But William was not finished.
"SHK!"
With a casual motion, almost as if it were no effort at all, William yanked Superman's head from his shoulders. The lifeless body of the once-immovable hero collapsed to the ground as William held the severed head high, the mouth hanging open in a grotesque droop.
Superman was dead.
A heavy stillness followed.
But then, a familiar chime sounded in William's mind.
[Hidden Quest Complete – Kill Superman]
[Reward: Sunstone]
[Reward: Bottled City of Kandor]
William tucked Superman's lifeless body into his pocket space with a flick of his hand, his expression unreadable. His eyes shifted to Darkseid, whose stunned gaze was fixed upon the body of his fallen adversary.
For a long moment, the battlefield was silent, the tension thick as the reality of the situation settled in.
And then—
A booming, uproarious laughter erupted from Darkseid.
His laugh echoed like thunder, shaking the very foundation of the planet. The ground trembled beneath their feet, and rivers of lava surged upward in violent reaction to the sheer force of his amusement.
"If we weren't already enemies, I might actually like you!" Darkseid bellowed, his laughter momentarily overwhelming the chaos around them.
A single tear, molten and red-hot like lava, slid down his face. He wiped it away, his features returning to their cold, calculating severity.
The moment was over.
And the battle raged on.
Darkseid moved with terrifying speed, his massive frame blurring as he lunged at William. His spear spun through the air with deadly precision, slicing through the atmosphere with a deafening whistle.
William barely managed to dodge, the air snapping with the power of Darkseid's attack as he rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding the godly blade. But Darkseid was relentless.
With an earth-shattering roar, the New God launched a flurry of thrusts, each one faster and more vicious than the last. The spear became an extension of his fury, an unstoppable barrage of strikes aimed to dismember, maim, or outright obliterate William.
"BOOM! BOOM!"
The planet trembled beneath each blow, the ground cracking and splintering as if it too was being torn apart by the sheer force of their clash. Mountains crumbled and whole landmasses began to sink, swallowed by the molten lava that had begun to surge from beneath. The sky itself seemed to shake, a reflection of the cataclysmic power being unleashed below.
William twisted, ducking and weaving through the storm of deadly thrusts, but even his incredible speed couldn't stop every blow. He was forced to retreat, each step taken with a sense of urgency.
Then, in one brutal motion, Darkseid reached out, seizing William's Thunder-Spire with an iron grip.
"YOU DON'T SEEM TO UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU STAND, MORTAL!"
Darkseid's voice boomed from every direction, his presence suffocating, the sheer weight of his power pressing down on William. The ground beneath William's feet began to splinter and crack as Darkseid's Omega Effect flared, the space around him warping under the immense pressure.
The earth groaned, fissures forming beneath William as the very land seemed to bend and break under the pressure.
"IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW STRONG YOU ARE! HERE, IN MY CENTER OF POWER, YOU ARE JUST ANOTHER INSECT TO BE CRUSHED UNDERFOOT!"
William's body trembled under the sheer force, but he stood firm. The lava beneath him began to rise, filling the cracks in the earth as Darkseid pressed him further down.
William's resolve never wavered.
A dark smile crept across his face as he raised his hands.
"Thunder-Spire, shrink!"
The staff pulsed with energy before it compressed into a compact form, perfectly sized for William's palm. Darkseid's crushing grip faltered due to the lack of a staff, The force Darkseid applied only sent him tumbling into the pit, William was floating above it now, cupping his hands with a calm yet deadly focus.
"CRACKLE!"
Dense blue ki crackled to life between William's hands, arcs of lightning swirling around the orb. Each crackling bolt swirled with purpose, and if one looked closely, they could see the lightning taking the form of small Shenrons, their serpentine shapes coiling and swimming around the orb as if they were alive.
Each lightning Shenron glared with sentience, their tiny eyes filled with hatred, bearing the fury of a thousand storms as they prepared to unleash their vengeance.
"KA... ME..."
The orb of ki began to spin, ambient energy flowing into it as William's aura surged. The space around him seemed to warp as the very air grew thick with the power he was summoning. The ground rumbled beneath him, and for a brief moment, it felt as though the planet itself held its breath.
"HA... ME..."
The Shenrons became more agitated, their bodies twisting in a violent dance around the concentrated ki. Each one of them seemed to charge up, preparing for the final strike. William's eyes narrowed, and the orb of ki in his hands pulsed with the fury of a storm about to break.
"HA!"
With a final roar, William unleashed the blast.
The wave of energy shot forward, its shape distorting as it transformed into the mighty Shenron of legend. The ki-beast roared as it surged forward, its immense form tearing through the air like a force of nature itself.
"RUMBLE!"
The entire planet shook with the impact, the very core of Apokolips rattling from the sheer force of the blast. The energy surged through the battlefield, its power pushing Darkseid deeper and deeper into the fiery depths of his own planet.
The ground cracked and crumbled beneath him, unable to withstand the onslaught. Darkseid's form was pushed relentlessly downward, swallowed by the seismic waves.
Finally, with one final eruption, Darkseid was hurled into the very heart of the planet, the core of Apokolips, where the Infinity Pit lay. This was the source of his power, the very foundation of his connection to his godhead.
The air crackled with the residual energy of the attack, and for a brief moment, the silence that followed was deafening.
"BOOM!"
a deafening explosion was both heard and felt throughout the planet.
"RUMBLE!"
William floated in the air to avoid the shaking but soon a massive dark hand extended from the depths of the planet and grabbed at him the very movement of which caused hurricane winds that continued to kill the planet's inhabitants as the rest of a massive body pulled itself from the depths of Apokolips and when William looked up he saw a giant form of Darkseid looming over him.
"HERE, I AM ABSOLUTE!" Darkseid's massive form spoke causing a soundwave shoot forth and turn surrounding inhabitants that survived up until now into a dense pink mist.
