Reborn as a Succubus: Time To Live My Best Life!

Chapter 292: Loyalty, Part Fifty

{Vira}

Today, it seemed Koros was actually taking a day off. When she heard that, Vira had to make sure the sun was still up in the sky and that the world hadn't flipped on its head while she'd been asleep.

So, she was enjoying this time with him the best that she could.

"Agh, fuck," Koros quietly hissed as Vira's head bobbed up and down.

His hands were tangled in her hair, guiding her movements with that familiar roughness. She knew his tastes as much as she knew her own. Knew exactly how he liked it, just the right amount of tongue, just the right pace.

[Though lately,] she thought, feeling him twitch against her tongue, [everything's been about speed with him. Rush rush rush, fuck, cum, go someplace else and... Stop it,] she closed her eyes, willing herself to push the thoughts aside.

When he finished, spilling down her throat with a grunt, Vira took her time pulling back. No point rushing this part, at least.

"Fuck," he said again, more softly this time. "You're getting better at that."

"Practice makes perfect, they say," she wiped her mouth, settling beside him on the bed. For once, he actually looked relaxed. Like the brother she remembered from before all this revolutionary bullshit.

[... Maybe now's a good time to try again.]

"So," she started carefully, keeping her voice casual. "About that kitsune manor..."

The change was immediate.

His whole body tensed, that familiar scowl returning to his face.

"For fuck's sake, Vira," he growled. "How many times do we have to have this conversation?"

"At least once more," she shot back. "Since you're still planning to get yourself killed."

He sat up, already reaching for his clothes. The peaceful moment evaporated, it seemed.

"We've been over this," he said, pulling his pants on with more force than necessary. "Those kitsune bitches-"

"Are friends with Melisa fucking Blackflame," Vira cut in. "The nim mage? Do you really think she would associate herself with weaklings?"

"I know they aren't weak. That's part of the point. This is exactly why we need to send a message!"

[Gods, you stupid fuck,] she thought, her head hitting the pillow, watching him pace. [The only message you'll send is 'here lies what's left of my dumb ass.']

"So, let's see, those kitsune have Melisa Blackflame as their friend, superior biology for casting spells as kitsune, and that one bitch, what was it, Isabella? Oh yeah, she's selling those 'wands' or whatever the fuck. Come on, Koros, you have to see that this plan is optimistic at best, right?"

She tried appealing to his common sense, though she doubted he had a lot of that left.

"We have Melanie now," he said, like their newest recruit was some kind of trump card. "You heard of what she did at the warehouse."

[Yeah, and I also saw how she looked afterward. Like she'd rather eat glass than do it again.]

"One good mage, who by the way probably started casting magic less than a year ago, doesn't make you invincible," Vira said, not bothering to get dressed. No point when this conversation was just going to end the same way it always did. "And those kitsune-"

"Are just more humans' pets," he spat. "Like you're trying to be."

[... Ouch.]

That stung, but Vira kept her voice level.

"Better a pet than a corpse."

"Is that what you really think?" He turned to face her fully. "That everything we're doing is pointless?"

"I think," she said carefully, "that there are better ways to fight than suicide missions."

"It's not-" he started, then stopped, running a hand through his hair. "You know what? We're done having this conversation."

[Called it.]

"Fine," she flopped back on the bed. "Go get yourself killed. See if I care."

He was already heading for the door, probably off to plan more ways to get himself murdered by angry kitsune.

[Well,] she thought, watching him go, [I tried, Melanie. I really did. But... I guess I should try again.]

{Koros}

Even in this part of Syux, where purple skin was more common than not, humans still walked around like they owned the place. A merchant shot Koros a dirty look as he passed, probably worried the big scary nim was going to steal his precious wares.

[Fuck you too, buddy,] Koros thought, watching the man hurry past. [Though I guess I should thank shitheads like you. You make recruitment so much easier.]

The streets were getting busier as the morning wore on. More humans meant more glares, more whispered comments, more hands clutching purses tighter.

[That's right,] he smirked at a particularly offended-looking noblewoman. [Clutch those pearls. Soon enough you'll have bigger things to worry about.]

His destination wasn't far - a modest house wedged between two larger buildings like it was trying to hide. Probably because it was. Back when humans could still legally own nim, this whole street had been full of hidden spaces where free nim could lay low.

Now those same spaces housed people like Gessia.

She answered his knock quickly, those red eyes lighting up when she saw him. She was gorgeous - all curves and warmth.

"Koros!" She practically threw herself into his arms. "I didn't expect... I mean, I thought you'd be busy..."

[Always have time for my favorite motivation,] he thought, breathing in her scent as he held her.

"How are you holding up?" He asked, though he could guess. He'd been where she was, after all. Known that same emptiness after losing family to human brutality.

"I..." She pulled back slightly, her smile faltering. "I... I don't know. I keep expecting her to walk through the door, you know? Keep thinking I'll turn around and she'll just... be there."

Just like he still sometimes thought he'd see his parents again. Still caught himself thinking "Mom would love this" or "Dad would know what to do" before remembering.

"But," she continued, her voice strengthening, "what you did to those guards... knowing they paid for what they did to my sister..."

Her lips found his before he could respond, desperate and hungry. She tasted like salt and revenge, her tongue seeking his like she was trying to devour the pain.

[This,] he thought, letting her pull him inside. [This is what it's all about.]

Not the politics Vira was always whining about. Not the "better ways" she kept suggesting. This - making the humans pay for every tear, every drop of blood, every life they'd taken.

Gessia's hands were already working at his clothes, her body pressing against his with needy intensity.

"Thank you," she whispered between kisses. "Thank you for making them hurt like they hurt us."

He remembered the guards' screams as his people had torn them apart. Remembered thinking of his parents as he watched them burn.

[Soon,] he promised silently, picking Gessia up and carrying her toward her bedroom. [Soon they'll all pay.]

Those kitsune were just part of the beginning. Part of getting the ball rolling.

Those kitsune might be powerful, might be friends with Melisa fucking Blackflame herself, but they were still just humans' pets. Still part of the system that had taken everything from him, from Gessia, from every nim who'd ever lost someone to human cruelty.

[Let them come,] he thought, laying Gessia down on her bed. [Let them try to stop us.]

He had Melanie now. Had an actual nim mage on his side. Had everything he needed to make them all burn.

Gessia pulled him down into another kiss, her body arching against his, and Koros let himself forget about plans and politics for a while.

After all, some forms of revenge were more fun than others.
