Chapter 55: The Prodigious Nim, Part Twenty-Four
Melisa crept through the darkened halls of the academy, her footsteps echoing softly in the empty corridors.
The Alchemist's Tower loomed ahead, its windows dark and lifeless at this late hour.
At this hour, all the other Prestige Class students had long since departed, leaving the tower silent and seemingly abandoned.
But Melisa knew better.
She smiled to herself. With everyone else either asleep or out in the city, partying or whatever, she and Isabella practically had the tower to themselves.
[Ah, holy shit. I've never really done anything like this. It feels like I'm walking into a bank to steal something. But, yeah, the situation couldn't be farther from that.]
She slipped inside, her footsteps echoing softly in the empty hallways.
As she rounded the corner to their usual meeting spot, a blur of motion caught her off guard.
Suddenly, she found herself pinned against the cool stone wall, her breath stolen from her lungs.
"Well, well," Isabella purred, her lips curving into a playful smirk. "Look who finally decided to show up. Have fun with your other friends today, hmm?"
Melisa laughed breathlessly, her heart racing at the sudden contact.
"Just the one, actually," she managed, fighting to keep her composure as Isabella began to pepper little kisses along her jaw. "And yes, I did have fun. Though I have to say, this is a much nicer welcome."
Isabella hummed, her lips curving into a smile against Melisa's skin.
"Good," she murmured. "I'd hate to think you were getting bored of me."
Melisa grinned, letting her hands come up to rest on Isabella's waist.
"Never," she said firmly. "You know I need you, Izzy. For training, of course."
Isabella pulled back slightly, arching a brow.
"Oh, is that all I am to you?" she asked, a hint of mock offense in her tone. "Just a means to an end?"
Melisa shook her head, her expression softening.
"Of course not," she said, reaching up to tuck a stray lock of hair behind Isabella's ear. "You're... you're also really, really cute."
[Seriously, holy fuck, she's so cute. AH! FOXES! FOX GIRLS! AAAAAH!]
Isabella's eyes widened slightly, a flash of genuine emotion crossing her face before it was quickly masked by her usual playful smirk.
"Well then," she purred, leaning in close once more. "I suppose I'd better make sure you're properly... charged up before we get started."
Melisa's breath hitched as Isabella pressed against her, the heat of her body seeping through their clothes. She could feel something stirring beneath Isabella's skirt, a telltale sign of her growing excitement.
It was also cute, Melisa thought distantly, the way Isabella got so worked up over her. Flattering, even.
But just as she was about to let herself get lost in the moment, something caught her eye over Isabella's shoulder.
There, on the table behind her, was a pile of wood. Rough, unfinished planks, stacked haphazardly among the usual clutter of alchemical ingredients and tools.
Melisa blinked, her brow furrowing slightly.
"Hey, Izzy?" she asked, gently pushing the other girl back a bit. "What's with the wood? I thought you usually worked with stone for your runes."
Isabella paused, seeming to take a moment to process the question.

Then, as if a switch had been flipped, she snapped out of her lustful haze and stepped back, turning to glance at the table.
"Oh, that," she said, waving a dismissive hand. "It's just... something I've been experimenting with. Trying to branch out a bit, you know?"
She turned back to Melisa, a hint of excitement creeping into her voice.
"I've been doing some research," she explained, "and I think I might have found a way to make my runes even more powerful. It's all about the material, see? Rocks are all the same, but I've read that different woods have different magical properties, and if I can find the right combination..."
She trailed off, her eyes gleaming with the fervor of a true scientist.
Melisa couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm.
[... She's actually so passionate about this. It's cute.]
"That's interesting," she said sincerely. "I can't wait to see what you come up with. You know, back in my village, I did some experiments of my own. Nothing as advanced as what you're doing, of course, but..."
She trailed off, suddenly feeling a bit self-conscious. But Isabella was looking at her with genuine interest, so she continued.
"When I made my first rune, I'd mainly just used rocks because they were so... available," Melisa shrugged. "But, seeing this, I honestly do wonder about what the effect of using wood might be."
[In a way... Wouldn't that be like using a corpse to power magic? Since this wood was once alive and all? I wonder...]
Isabella beamed, a genuine smile lighting up her face.
"I will find out," she promised. "Soon. But first..."
She stepped closer once more, her expression shifting back into something more sultry.
As she went to press their bodies together again, this time, Melisa felt it in full force, Isabella's dick tapping against Melisa's abs.
[Oh,] Melisa blinked. [She's THAT horny?]
"I believe we have some training to do."
[I don't think you have the right kind of training in mind.]
But, as Isabella leaned in to kiss her, Melisa closed her eyes all the same.

Later, Melisa quietly slipped through the front door of Javir's home, deciding she didn't want her roommate to see her like this, her mind (and pussy) still buzzing.
[... I need to masturbate at least a little before bed. Fuck.]
As she made her way towards the stairs, a flicker of movement in the garden caught her eye, though.
She could see her father, Melistair, sitting on a bench, staring up at the sky.
[Oh, he's still up,] she thought, pausing mid-step. [I should probably say goodnight.]
Changing course, Melisa stepped out into the cool night air.
"Hey, Dad," she called softly, approaching the bench. "What are you doing out here so late?"
Melistair looked up, a warm smile spreading across his face as he saw her.
"Just enjoying the night air, sweetheart. How was your evening?"
"Studied a bit with Isabella," Melisa settled onto the bench beside him, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "It was good. We worked on some magical theory stuff."
Her father nodded, his eyes twinkling with a knowing look.
[... Was I that obvious? Is there something on my face?]
He glanced at her face, then chuckled softly.
"I see," he said, his tone gentle. "Well, I'm glad you're spending time with her. Just... be responsible, alright? Raising a kid and studying at the academy at once would probably be inconvenient for you."
"DAD!"
He just laughed, and, after a moment, Melisa laughed too.
[Ugh. I need to work on my poker face.]
