Chapter 73 - 74 She Will Definitely Like You
Chapter 73: Chapter 74 She Will Definitely Like You
Shao He discerned from her words how much she cared about Madam Liang, and that it was for Madam Liang she always compromised, seeming to have been arrogant and overbearing only because of the grievances she suffered in the mansion and not knowing how to vent them.
Liang Weishuang broke into a smile through her tears, wiping them away as she said, “Thank you.”
She never dreamed that one day she would become friends with her, and be able to get along so harmoniously.
The carriage stopped in front of Liang Mansion, and Liang Weishuang, supporting Shao He, alighted from the carriage, and they walked into the mansion together.
The servants in the mansion greeted Liang Weishuang with respect, since everyone knew the young mistress had a difficult temperament, but after all, she was the legitimate daughter.
Liang Weishuang led Shao He into the courtyard, which was very luxurious with various precious plants and complete with artificial mountains and flowing springs, pavilions and towers, all arranged in an elegant and exquisite manner.
Liang Weishuang pushed open the door of the house: “Come in!”
The room’s decoration was even more lavish, with furniture and a canopy bed all made from carved mahogany, and folding screens and various porcelain items that were worth a fortune.
Liang Weishuang dismissed her maid and personally poured tea for Shao He, saying, “Try the new tea I bought.”
Shao He picked up the teacup and took a sip: “The aroma is strong, the flavor rich and delicious. It’s indeed excellent tea.”
“Do you like it?”
“Hmm! It’s quite good. Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it!”
The two conversed for a while, then talked about Madam Liang, who was pretty and gentle, of delicate beauty and kind character. When Liang Weishuang mentioned her mother, a happy expression appeared on her face.
Liang Weishuang was a filial child; the person she respected most deep in her heart was her mother, because within Liang Mansion, the only one who truly loved her was her mother.
Shao He pursed her lips and did not reply; suddenly, amidst the warm atmosphere, she smelled a distinct fragrance, different from the sandalwood burning in the stove.
She stood up and followed the scent to the window, where she saw several pots of flowers. She bent down to smell them, confirming the scent was emanating from there.
“What’s wrong? Is there a problem with the flowers?”
Shao He did not answer but instead grabbed a handful of soil and rubbed it in her hands, then smelled it closely. She quickly understood.
“It’s not that there’s something wrong with these few pots of flowers, but something has been placed in the soil of these pots, and inhaling this fragrance long-term would lead to infertility in women.”
Liang Weishuang stepped back in fright, looking in disbelief at the pots, her hands slowly clenching into fists.
“Are there other problems in my room or courtyard?” Liang Weishuang asked again.
Shao He replied, “It’s unlikely someone would tamper with anything outside; only by tampering inside an air-tight room would you inhale it into your body.”
Liang Weishuang took a deep breath to calm herself down, turned back to the inner room and brought out a bag of silver, handing it to Shao He.
“Thank you, Doctor Shao, for making this trip. This is a little token of my appreciation; I hope you won’t disdain it.”
Seeing the heavy silver, Shao He quickly refused: “You are giving too much, I don’t need this silver.”
“It’s okay, my mother is wealthy, please take it; otherwise, I won’t be at peace,” Liang Weishuang insisted on her accepting the silver.
After repeated insistence from her, Shao He finally took all the silver.
Liang Weishuang said in a low voice, “I don’t want my mother to know about this, I specifically made an excuse for her to visit my grandmother’s house. I’ll introduce you to my mother another day; she will definitely like you.”
“Okay,” Shao He nodded, realizing why Liang Weishuang said she was not favored in the mansion, yet her courtyard and room were incredibly luxurious—the reason being a wealthy mother.
“Sister, I heard you were back.”
As they were talking, a delicate voice came over.
Shao He looked up at the approaching figure. She was dressed in a peach-colored gown, her hair styled in twin buns, her skin creamy, eyebrows like willow leaves, and lips painted red; every smile and frown conveyed endless charm.
This person was Liang Weishuang’s half-sister, Liang Rou.
Liang Weishuang’s face showed a hint of disgust as she asked coldly, “What are you doing here?”
“I heard that sister brought someone home, so I came to see,” Liang Rou glanced at Shao He, her eyes full of disdain.
Shao He did not care, turning to Liang Weishuang, “I must leave now as I have other matters to attend to.”
“Alright, the carriage is still outside, the coachman will take you home,” Liang Weishuang said with a gentle expression, nodding at her.
Just as Shao He stepped outside, she heard the sound of a slap followed by a woman’s crying from inside—naturally, the voice was not Liang Weishuang’s but her half-sister’s. However, this was none of her concern, and she walked away briskly.
When she returned to Anji Hall, Shao He put the bag of silver in front of Yun Qian.
“This is the consultation fee for today.”
Yun Qian poured out the silver from the bag to check it; there were about twenty taels.
“So much silver? For what illness?”
This made Shao He laugh, “I didn’t treat any illness; I just found several pots of flowers that could cause women to be infertile.”
“Just that? And it’s worth twenty taels?” Yun Qian’s eyes widened in surprise, knowing that even his daily consultations hardly earned so many taels.
“They’re rich, that’s all,” Shao He shrugged.
Yun Qian laughed helplessly, evidently not understanding the world of the wealthy.
After a long day, Shao He was about to pack up and rest when Yun Qian added, “Your frostbite ointment and Cold Effervescent Powder have been circulated in the palace, and even the Imperial Medical Bureau is researching the recipe, but so far without any success.”
Shao He raised an eyebrow, secretly thinking it odd since Yun Qian seemed to be very familiar with the affairs of the Imperial Medical Bureau, and his medical skills were not lacking either—could there be some connection between the two?
