Reborn as Humanity’s Emperor Across the Multiverse

Chapter 454: Chapter 454: Airdrop of the "Knights"

"Prepare yourselves, pilots. Inform the hangar, logistics, and ground crew to get ready for reception."

Chris was the first to break the silence on the communication channel.

"Yes, Colonel."

The pilot in the cockpit promptly responded via comms.

"Colonel Thomson."

Chris then turned his gaze to Jens across from him, his tone laced with curiosity.

"You have a deeper understanding of the current situation in Universe 08 (Halo). What can you tell me about the 4th Company of the Raven Guard?"

Hearing this, Jens thought for a moment before replying:

"Our fleet often collaborates with the Space Wolves and the Dawn Raiders Legion, but we've had less interaction with the Raven Guard.

From what I know, the Raven Guard are generally silent and reserved, especially the 1st and 2nd Companies, as well as their Primarch, Corax.

However, they are approachable and easy to communicate with—certainly not as eccentric as the Space Wolves. But as for the 4th Company, I know very little."

Jens paused, then continued:

"The only reliable intel I have is that their combat style is incredibly aggressive. They excel at frontal assaults, which is quite atypical for the Raven Guard.

I've heard that a Ghostface Clan, inheritors of the Covenant's Dreadnought Fleet, was wiped out by them in just two Earth days. They even incinerated the entire planet where that clan resided."

"Hmm." Chris nodded thoughtfully.

"In any case, having such a formidable assault-oriented company for support will significantly reduce the risks of this mission.

If Captain Tyberos fails to retrieve valuable intel or items from the underground city, their fleet can still enact an Exterminatus on Quicontor to completely eliminate the threat."

"Indeed."

Jens sighed softly. Though his voice remained calm, the anguish in his heart was unmistakable.

The loss of his subordinates weighed heavily on him, along with the helplessness that came with it.

As a commander, Jens was long accustomed to the brutality of war and the sacrifices it demanded. Yet witnessing the gruesome deaths of his soldiers, knowing that their remains could neither be collected nor buried properly, left a profound burden in his heart.

Still, they had been relatively lucky. At least they had managed to withdraw from the landing zone in time and secure reinforcements from an elite company.

Through the shared vision of his helmet's HUD and various notifications, Jens knew that their transport convoy was about to return to the Diana III.

Additionally, he could "visually" observe the 4th Company of the Raven Guard—also known as the Carcharodons Fleet—arriving at their designated low Earth orbit.

And then—

Ri~shoo! Shoo!

The Carcharodons Fleet commenced a volley of shipborne fire at the entrance to the underground city.

Electromagnetic main cannons, high-powered plasma secondary batteries, and tactical metallic-hydrogen missiles tore through the atmosphere, igniting countless flashes on the planet's surface.

Once the bombardment concluded, the Carcharodons followed standard tactical procedures: launching an airdrop operation on the scorched ground to replace the mixed detachment currently in the field and continue the mission within the underground city.

This time, however, the initial wave of troops would no longer consist of ODSTs and special units but rather Astartes.

By this point, Jens could no longer directly witness the orbital drop of the Carcharodons. Their transport convoy had already passed through the plasma valve and returned to the hangar of the Diana III.

——

Meanwhile, aboard the flagship of the Carcharodons Fleet, the Carthage-class carrier Crimson Scar...

Thud, thud.

A group of company guards clad in Titan VII power armor marched with their captain to their designated deployment area.

Under the ship's lights, their armor gleamed with an icy sheen.

Every guard's helmet, pauldrons, and chest armor were adorned with meticulously crafted shark-tooth motifs, reflecting the company's brutal, bloodthirsty reputation.

To the Carcharodons, these decorations were not just a badge of honor but a symbol of the terrifying death they promised their enemies.

At the forefront of this group was Captain Tyberos of the 4th Company.

A standard Astartes clad in Terminator armor usually stood about 2.8 meters tall, with company champions, captains, and honor guards occasionally reaching 3 meters.

However, Tyberos was a true giant even among his peers.

Aside from the intimidatingly ornate appearance of his Terminator armor, Tyberos himself stood at an imposing 3.6 meters—almost matching the physique and height of the Custodes, whose average height was 3.7 meters.

Additionally, his arm armor lacked ranged weapons, instead featuring two oversized "chainsaw power claws."

These massive claws, folded against the outer sides of his arm plates and glinting with a chilling light, seemed capable of shredding any enemy into fragments once activated.

That said, Tyberos was not without ranged firepower.

His Terminator armor's power pack featured mechanical arms equipped with a micro-missile launcher and a tri-barrel 1.0 caliber rotary bolter.

This setup ensured he could adapt to any battlefield, excelling in both close and ranged combat.

The hundred company guards then entered standard Astartes drop pods.

However, due to Tyberos's extraordinary size, he couldn't fit into a standard pod and had to board a custom single-occupant pod instead.

As technicians completed their final inspections—ensuring the integrity of all equipment, especially the seals of the guards' protective suits—the lights in the drop bay dimmed.

Beep!

A sharp, ear-piercing alarm sounded, signaling the start of decompression in the drop bay.

Once the decompression process was complete, the pneumatic valves at the bottom of the launch rails began to open in sequence.

Inside one of the drop pods, six Astartes from the assault platoon locked themselves into position using magnetic boots and shoulder clamps.

Clad in Titan IV power armor, they silently awaited the launch, neither speaking nor fidgeting.

The faint sounds of mechanical clamps releasing could be heard, followed by a deep silence.

In reality, their drop pod—along with those of the 2nd and 3rd assault platoons and the hundred company guards—had already been propelled down the magnetic rails, ejecting them out of the drop bay one after another.

Their helmet HUDs displayed the external environment with clarity.

Soon after, nearly 10,000 ODSTs followed suit, descending into Quicontor's atmosphere.

However, the ODSTs' designated landing zone was outside the entrance to the underground city.

Though the ODSTs from the Legion were better equipped than their Navy counterparts, they were still "mere mortals."

Learning from Jens's earlier losses and armed with intel provided by Chris, Tyberos chose to have the Carcharodons—himself included—directly confront the highly infectious heretics.

As full-fledged Astartes, bearing the "distinctive designation" that came with maturity, they possessed far greater resistance than the ODSTs.

Furthermore, the Legion's elite companies had already phased out Titan armor lacking energy shields.

The Carcharodons, known for their wealth and expertise in looting technology and equipment from xenos and traitors alike, outfitted each member's Titan armor with energy shield generators.

This allowed them to face the heretical hordes with confidence, advancing into the underground city while ensuring their own safety.

The ODSTs, meanwhile, would provide covering fire, assist the auxiliary forces arriving via transport ships, and support Jens, Chris, and others—whom Tyberos had effectively "drafted" into extended duty.

In addition to the Astartes and ODSTs, two large disposable drop pods were also launched.

These pods, roughly 25 meters long and 6 meters wide, contained specialized equipment and resources.

Within minutes, Tyberos's custom pod, the drop pods carrying over 500 Carcharodons, and the rectangular pods streaked through Quicontor's atmosphere like shooting stars, landing successfully.

Tyberos's pod was the first to hit the ground.

However, the landing zone no longer resembled its previous frozen wasteland.

The orbital bombardment—especially the plasma barrages—had transformed the area. A thick mist now pervaded the air, the ground was wet and swamp-like, and the atmosphere was stifling.

The once-solid terrain had turned to muddy quagmire, each step sinking into the earth, while visibility dropped to almost nothing, making it nearly impossible to see more than five meters ahead.

Bang!

Before the pod's automatic ejection sequence could activate, Tyberos kicked the hatch open with a resounding crash.

His massive figure emerged, his heavy footsteps splashing mud in every direction.

Boom! Boom!

As more drop pods landed, the zone grew increasingly chaotic. Each impact shook the ground, sending dirt and debris flying.

The soil and rocks mixed with the misty air to create a dense gray fog, further obscuring visibility.

Yet, even without their helmet HUDs, the Carcharodons remained acutely aware of their surroundings.

Without needing orders from Tyberos, they spread out in tactical squads, maintaining spacing and advancing toward the red "▼" markers on their HUDs.

Meanwhile, those equipped with shoulder-mounted micro-launchers released hundreds of disposable drones.

Resembling metallic dragonflies, these drones scattered across the landing zone's skies, enhancing battlefield awareness.

The marked location was the entrance where the Hellhounds, Hunters, and clones had met their demise.

However, after enduring the fleet's bombardment, the surface cracks and underground tunnels were utterly unrecognizable.

The previously mapped underground network was now unreliable.

Thus, Tyberos planned to lead the Carcharodons into the underground city—about 150 meters below—via tunnels blasted open by electromagnetic cannons.

According to the fleet's latest intel and AI analysis, the underground city beneath them was massive, capable of housing 50 million people.

The scans displayed on their HUD mini-maps confirmed this, revealing countless red enemy markers rapidly converging.

Suddenly—

Vrrrm!

The rumble of engines—similar to those of transport ships or small craft—echoed above the Carcharodons.

Two 20-meter-tall humanoid mechs, equipped with folding-wing propulsion packs, skimmed low over the landing zone.

These mechs, known as Knight Mechs, were the "prized creations" of the Sons of Medusa.

The Raven Guard had purchased ten Knight Mechs from them, paying a premium to expedite delivery.

Two of these mechs had been assigned to the Carcharodons.

Upon receiving them, the Carcharodons had added their own "custom" decorations—shark-tooth motifs adorning the shoulder plates, chest armor, and helmets.

The mechs were piloted remotely by veteran Carcharodons using neural transmission systems.

As for their armament—

Each Knight Mech carried an 80mm Gauss "rifle" cannon in hand, with a 140mm plasma cannon mounted on its left shoulder.

Additionally, a 10-meter-long power sword was sheathed on the left side of each propulsion pack.

Within moments, the two Knight Mechs reached the designated area above the tunnel.

From the pilots' perspective, they could see that the electromagnetic cannon fire had completely collapsed the area, with a gaping chasm leading to the underground city below.

However, countless twisted and deformed heretics were pouring upward through the blasted tunnel.

At this moment, Tyberos's command echoed through the pilots' comms:

"Unleash full firepower. Clear the path for us."

"Yes, Captain."

Following the order, the two Knight Mechs hovered in place and aimed their 80mm Gauss cannons at the tunnel opening.

Then, their mechanical triggers engaged—

Ting-Ting-Ting-Ting!!!

A crisp, "melodious" barrage of firepower resonated throughout the battlefield.
