Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Power to destroy the world
Boom!
Whitebeard leaped from the deck of the Moby Dick, the massive white whale-like ship. His very presence on the battlefield was overwhelming, sending shockwaves of fear through his enemies with every step, as if a demon had clawed its way out of hell.
The pirates' morale surged as they saw their captain in action.
"Damn the Navy!" one pirate yelled. "They tricked Squard and turned him against Dad! The Navy can't be forgiven!"
"Kill them all!!" others cried, their voices brimming with rage.
The pirates were furious. In their minds, war was supposed to be fought with honor, a test of strength. But the Navy had used deception to break them. It wasn't just an assault on their bodies, but an attack on their minds. Squard, a loyal pirate, had actually been turned against Whitebeard. They had been humiliated, manipulated by the Navy's tactics. The shame stung deeply, and their fury boiled over.
On the execution platform, Sengoku watched the approaching pirates, Whitebeard at the forefront.
"Why hasn't the encirclement wall been activated yet?!" Sengoku shouted furiously.
He had given the order earlier, when Whitebeard still appeared calm, knowing that it would be crucial to contain the Yonko. But now, with Whitebeard on the move, the encirclement wall was still not deployed. The Vice Admiral responsible finally responded, panic in his voice.
"Marshal Sengoku!" the officer stammered. "The encirclement wall is frozen by Admiral Aokiji's ice! It's stuck solid!"
Sengoku's frustration boiled over. "Then melt the ice!" he barked. "Hurry!"
Aokiji's move to freeze the battlefield had initially been intended to halt Whitebeard's advance and prevent the pirates from escaping by sea. But now, it had also frozen the encirclement wall, a critical defense mechanism, rendering it useless. What was once an advantage had now turned into a disaster for the Navy, cutting both ways.
Beneath the execution platform, Aokiji scratched his head, his usual laid-back expression barely changing. "Oh my… What an unexpected development," he mused, as if the situation had little to do with him.
Kizaru, observing the chaos, casually remarked, "Is Akainu still chasing Doflamingo? Maybe he can melt the ice with his magma..."
Meanwhile, Akainu, known for his relentless nature, had been chasing Doflamingo across the battlefield. His magma abilities were terrifying, and the underworld broker knew it. Doflamingo, sweating and panicked, cut his own arm off to escape Akainu's molten grasp, flying through the air using his threads in a desperate attempt to reach Kaido's ship.
Back on the ground, Whitebeard advanced toward the square. The Navy's attempts to stop him would soon be futile if they couldn't activate the encirclement wall in time.
"Whitebeard, I won't let you take another step forward!" a booming voice called out. A giant Vice Admiral, towering over Whitebeard, moved into his path, wielding a sword the size of a ship's mast. He swung the massive blade down toward the Yonko, crushing pirates underfoot as he moved. But Whitebeard didn't even flinch.
The surrounding pirates, knowing what was coming, shouted warnings. "Stay away from Dad! Don't get caught in it!"
Whitebeard raised his massive hand, his power radiating from his body. He summoned the might of the Gura Gura no Mi, the quake-quake fruit, and with a devastating motion, he punched the air. Boom! The space around him cracked and shattered like glass. The giant Vice Admiral's eyes bulged as blood sprayed from his mouth, his body crumpling instantly under the overwhelming force. He was dead before he hit the ground.
Whitebeard didn't stop there. His rage was far from spent. He gripped the air with both hands, as if holding the very fabric of reality, and twisted. The entire island tilted. The ground beneath Marineford cracked and shifted.
The world seemed to tilt on its axis as Whitebeard's furious quake rocked the Navy Headquarters. Buildings crumbled, the ground fractured, and even the strongest structures buckled.
"What's happening?!" voices screamed in terror. "The island is tipping over!"
"It's Whitebeard!" someone shouted in fear. "He's going to flip the entire island!"
"Is this the power that can destroy the world?" others gasped, watching the havoc unfold.
In the midst of this chaos, Doflamingo, having barely escaped Akainu's wrath, landed on the deck of Kaido's ship, beaten, bloodied, and missing an arm. He fell to his knees before the Yonko, tears and snot running down his face.
"Lord Kaido!" Doflamingo pleaded. "Save me!!"
Kaido, unimpressed by the fallen Shichibukai's groveling, sighed. "Hide behind me," he muttered. Though Doflamingo had sided with the Navy, Kaido decided to spare him, seeing value in his intelligence network and the dark dealings he controlled. Kaido, always thinking ahead, knew Doflamingo could still be useful, especially in the larger game involving Imu and the One Piece.
As the pirates surged toward Marineford's square, Whitebeard's wrathful power reshaped the battlefield. The Navy, reeling from the shockwaves, found themselves in an even more precarious position.
And amidst it all, the world watched, stunned by the sheer devastation that one man could unleash. Whitebeard wasn't just the strongest man alive—he was an unstoppable force of nature.
At the Navy Headquarters, tension hung thick in the air as Akainu returned, his expression grim. The bitter reality of their failure weighed on him. Aokiji, ever calm, merely shrugged, "We lost him, Akainu."
Akainu's face darkened further, anger radiating off him in waves. Kizaru, leaning lazily against a pillar, added his own brand of commentary, "How terrible, pirates... Everyone's really angry now. That alienation plan—it almost backfired on us."
Akainu seethed, fury bubbling beneath his surface. Nothing had gone as planned. Squard's betrayal was supposed to break the Whitebeard Pirates from within, but instead, it had only served to unite them stronger than before. Worse, he hadn't managed to demoralize them at all. He had failed to stab Whitebeard, failed to break their spirit, and now he stood with nothing but bitter failure to show for his efforts. His face turned as black as coal.
Meanwhile, the pirates were surging forward, rushing desperately toward the square, their spirits inflamed with rage and vengeance.
Boom!
Suddenly, the ground began to rumble and shake. With a deafening roar, massive steel walls shot up around the inner bay. The encirclement wall, long delayed, finally activated. The pirates found themselves completely trapped.
"The encirclement wall is up," Sengoku noted, his demeanor finally brightening. "It seems Whitebeard's own power caused the ice to break and freed the mechanism. He helped us without realizing it."
War was unpredictable like that. Even the most powerful actions could have unintended consequences. Every move on the battlefield carried risks, and sometimes, those risks turned into advantages for the enemy.
The pirates, now trapped in the inner bay, stood in disbelief as the massive steel wall loomed over them.
"What's with this huge wall?!" a pirate cried out in shock.
"We're completely blocked!" another pirate yelled, striking at the steel only to find it impervious to their attacks.
The pirates grew increasingly frantic. "No way through!" they shouted in frustration. The iron wall was unyielding, impossible to damage or break. It seemed like all hope was lost, and panic began to spread among them.
Suddenly, the wall's rise stopped. There was a malfunction—a short circuit. The encirclement wall wasn't complete. Blood from the fallen Little Oars Jr. had seeped into the mechanism, causing the malfunction.
Sengoku, observing the malfunction, pressed a hand to his forehead. War was always unpredictable, full of sudden changes that no one could foresee. But it didn't matter now. The wall had done its job well enough.
"It doesn't matter," Sengoku declared, issuing a new order. "Akainu, it's time. Turn the inner bay into hell and bury the Whitebeard Pirates."
At those words, Akainu's fury found an outlet. His entire body radiated a burning heat as his magma powers ignited. He had been holding back for fear of harming his own soldiers, but now, with the pirates trapped and no risk to his allies, he could unleash his full might. His fists turned to molten magma.
"Meteor Volcano!" Akainu roared, his voice dripping with rage.
In an instant, the sky was filled with magma. Countless fiery fist-shaped meteors rained down from the heavens, crashing into the inner bay with explosive force. Boom! The ice melted under the intense heat, leaving the pirates stranded without footholds. Some were lucky—if being instantly crushed to death could be considered lucky. For others, the fire and molten rock consumed them, turning the bay into a nightmarish hellscape. It was as if the end of the world had come, and the pirates were powerless to stop it.
From the deck of the Moby Dick, Kaido watched the scene unfold, his eyes narrowing as he observed Akainu's destructive power. The sky was aflame with molten death, and the sea of magma below swallowed everything in its path.
"Is this Akainu's power?" Kaido muttered, genuinely impressed. "No wonder, two years from now, this man moves the Navy Headquarters to the New World... He really dares to challenge the Four Emperors."
Even Kaido, one of the mightiest beings alive, had to admit that Akainu's power was terrifying. The admiral's sheer strength was not to be underestimated.
