Reborn to Become A Queen: The Real Heiress's Comeback

Chapter 19: Chapter 19: The Powerful Ponytail

In a secluded room on the second floor by the window, a conspicuously slender hand gently tapped on the window.

The man's eyebrows and eyes carried a hint of coldness and an unconventional, devil-may-care charm as he half-turned to the side, delighting in observing everything that had just transpired.

Cui Ying was already red-faced with anger, and upon seeing the man, she felt utterly embarrassed and had nowhere to hide.

That man was Mu Yan, her father's direct superior!

When she was thirteen, he had once visited her home, and since then, no other man had caught her eye.

Even the Marquis Si Jun, who had strikingly handsome features, paled in comparison to Mu Yan.

It was only because this man seldom appeared that he hadn't caught the attention of all the highborn ladies.

People said Mu Yan was licentious, and Cui Ying liked exactly that kind of temperament; she did not care for someone like Si Jun.

Mu Yan was twenty-two this year, possessing a charm distinct to men, whether it was his slender knuckles, his sharply contoured face, or his throat moving as he drank, all of it made her heart race and her face flush.

Rarely had anyone seen the true face of Mu Yan, and he seldom appeared in the bustling marketplaces.

Today, he appeared in such circumstances.

Moreover, his gaze seemed to be fixated on her, and Cui Ying awkwardly adjusted a loose strand of hair by her temple, accidentally touching her sore cheek.

She was extremely annoyed. Today, she had abused a puppy and bullied a child in the streets and was slapped by Zhan Lan.

And all this had been witnessed by the man of her dreams, Mu Yan.

She was mortified!

Another man beside Mu Yan, dressed in white, peeked through the window, laughing.

"Yan, we've encountered that little beauty again, Zhan Lan is quite wild, not even sparing the Minister of Justice's daughter."

He shook his fan, pondering, "It's indeed strange, I and this little beauty seem to meet everywhere, could it be fated destiny?"

"If you want to reincarnate, I won't stop you," Mu Yan replied coldly, then withdrew his gaze.

"Ah, Yan, do you have some prejudice against that girl?" Bai Chen rolled his eyes.

Mu Yan picked up his cup and took a sip, ignoring Bai Chen, then stood up and walked outside.

Seeing the man get up, Cui Ying became flustered.

She turned and hurriedly climbed into her carriage, which sped towards the Cui Mansion, kicking up a cloud of dust.

Onlookers moved towards the end of the street.

Amidst the dust, Zhan Lan suddenly saw a splash of red on the ground; two skewers of candied hawthorns had been crushed underfoot.

Just a moment ago, Zhan Heng was holding Little Black, while Zhan Rui was excitedly holding candied hawthorns, and then suddenly, they had disappeared.

Could it be that amidst the crowd, someone had snatched them? Zhan Lan frowned and pushed through the crowd in pursuit.

Suddenly, Zhan Lan caught a glimpse of another carriage ahead of Cui Ying's, turning at the end of the street.

She rushed through the crowd, chasing after it.

Mu Yan and Bai Chen had just come downstairs and witnessed the scene; they overheard passersby mentioning the disappearance of two children.

Bai Chen, worried, suggested, "Should we go check it out? That little girl being bullied earlier even called you 'handsome brother'."

Just before they went upstairs earlier, that little girl had given Mu Yan a small purple flower.

He replied indifferently, "What does it have to do with me, the Seal Keeper? Do you think I have time to spare?"

Bai Chen, speechlessly scratched his head.

The next moment, with a stern face, Mu Yan took the reins from a servant and mounted the horse, chasing after them.

Bai Chen stood there dumbfounded, shaking his head, "Ah, he's a man who denies his heart!"

Zhan Lan ran fast, but the other was a carriage; she couldn't catch up.

Inside, Cui Ying heard the noise outside, lifted the curtain of the carriage, and saw a fleeting figure pass by with the wind.

Soon after, the carriage was abruptly stopped, then quickly dashed off again.

Pulling back the curtain, Cui Ying saw that Zhan Lan had forcefully pulled down the Cui Mansion's Protector from his horse and took command of the carriage herself.

The speed at which she zigzagged across the street was breathtaking.

Cui Ying swayed from side to side inside the carriage, while another Protector sitting at the back of the carriage was thrown out at the turn.

Cui Ying pulled open the curtain and yelled, "Zhan Lan, are you crazy?"

Zhan Lan ignored her, raising the whip and lashing it onto the brown horse.

The horse galloped fiercely, relentlessly chasing after the carriage in front.

"What should we do, boss?" The people in the front carriage noticed Zhan Lan as well.

"It's just a woman, go around the city and lose her!" a man with a scar on his face scoffed.

The front carriage quickly disappeared on the main road.

Zhan Lan suddenly stopped, causing Cui Ying's head to knock against the carriage.

"Ah, my head, Zhan Lan, you this..."

"Thanks!" Before Cui Ying could swear, Zhan Lan had already dismounted.

Zhan Lan looked back and saw a man riding a tall horse approaching from a distance. After confirming his identity, she headed towards an alley on the left.

Left alone, Cui Ying stood there in shock and was knocked to the ground by a gust of wind upon disembarking from the carriage.

The horse's tail whipped with force, striking her across the face fiercely.

Cui Ying's cheek stung from the slap, and she let out a scream like a chicken being choked.

"Ah!"

Her day had already been bad enough, first being slapped by Zhan Lan and now smacked by the tail of a beast.

She wanted to get up and curse, but when she looked up, she saw that the person's back was actually Mu Yan!

Knowing that he had hit someone, he didn't even look back and galloped away, whip in hand.

Mu Yan's gaze was fixed on Zhan Lan who had turned into the alley.

In his swift ride, he touched the mane of his horse and softly said, "Well done."

The horse, encouraged by its master's affirmation, snorted hot breaths excitedly and flicked its powerful tail.

The white horse's muscles gleamed blood-red under the sunlight, continuing the chase after the carriage.

For a moment, Mu Yan's stunning appearance attracted the wives and daughters on the street, who couldn't help but gaze longingly as he sped by.

In the alley, Zhan Lan ran swiftly, holding the cyan hem of her skirt that clung to her legs, revealing the pants underneath.

She pulled out a veil from her sleeve to cover her face.

After running for a kilometer, she stopped at the back door of a large, grand mansion, scoped the area, and then climbed over the wall at a section with white tiles and red walls.

In the courtyard was a quite imposing ancestral hall, guarded by two stone lions at the entrance.

She sneaked up behind two guards who were drinking.

Before the guards could pull out the long swords from behind, Zhan Lan swiftly used hand strikes on both, bringing the two Protectors down instantaneously.

Zhan Lan stuck the wine bottles in their hands, making it look like they had merely drunk themselves to sleep.

She approached the ancestral hall's entrance, touched the lion statue's head three times on the left, then pressed on the eyes of the stone lion.

The door of the ancestral hall creaked open, Zhan Lan entered and a dark shadow quietly followed her in.

The door clacked shut, Zhan Lan lit a candle.

The moment the light appeared, Zhan Lan quickly turned and reached to choke the person behind her.

"Who!"

Zhan Lan looked down to see a disheveled little girl, who suddenly produced a rusty dagger in her hand.

Just as the dagger was about to pierce Zhan Lan's arm, Zhan Lan swiftly moved behind the girl and grabbed her hair.

The little girl, like a wild wolf, thrashed about, trying to pull her own hair to protect herself.

Zhan Lan's voice came close to her ear, "Dugu Yan, we have the same goal!"

The little girl trembled in fright, how could it be possible?

It had been six years since she had heard anyone call her real name!
